  1. See I don't get that why use a stone in pva as a weight yes it works but why not just use a lead , this would have the extra advantage of helping hook the fish .Just because it can be done doesn't mean it best practice .
  2. Neither of those clubs have large size waters , so yes you can get away with traditional gear . I often use a centre pin reel for float fishing and free lining on BDAC and Maldon waters but they are what I call fun mid to high stocked waters , not the large expansive waters where you need more modern gear . P.S . No wildies in any of those waters
  3. Free lining has it's place , but as has been said above it's very restrictive that same goes for traditional gear . @bluelabel can I ask what club waters you fish Essex ? BDAC , Chelmsford , Maldon curious that's all .
  4. Would using a low ph groundbait not be counter productive if adding amino acids , won't the amino's increase the ph levels ? Is there a reason you want to lower rather the raise the levels How big a change do the fish detect , the change in PH levels could be why amino's work (just a thought ) Or just throw a pack of Rennie in
  5. I'd love to know what Essex club waters have Wildies in , not even sure there's any true wild carp left .
  6. A standard float/match rod is not designed to take 8lb line generally 2-4lb , some commercial carp or Tench type rods are fine with 4-6lb .You need to match the line with the rod to stronger line and you risk overloading the and breaking it ! If the carp are averaging 20lb then why not use a carp rod but just fish a float and why only a size 10 hook ? A waggler is usually fished with the line running through the small eye on the base of the float either locked in place with a shot either side or float stops either side these are easier to adjust the depth or if fishing deep water as you can allow the float to run up to the top stop allowing you to bring it through the rod rings on retrieval. If the water is snag free then using mainline straight through is fine but if your near snags then it may be worth upping the breaking strain but use a lighter hooklength that way if you get snagged the hook length will break . As for hook size what bait are you going to use and how are you attaching the bait ?
  7. It's got Korda written all over it Quickly patent it Danny F maybe reading this
  8. I like the innovation and the diy nature , but a catapult will achieve the same result .
  9. The lead coating needs to break down 1st before the lead break down , waters were probably exposed to more lead before the small sizes werre banned . I like your theory but still think its probably fertilizer made its way into the water course .
  10. You could be correct Elmo although I would imagine it would take a lot of leads to make an impact plus most people use coated leads . Certainly interesting to know what has caused the high levels , any illegal fly tipping near by or farmers fertilisers getting into the water coarse ?
  11. They'll die if frozen ! You need a fridge not a freezer .
  12. Its only 8 pints , good night down the pub LOL
  13. When you buy them they should come with a mix of maize flour and saw dust over them , the basemix may just clump together once wet from the sweat produced.Once they start to sweat its a thankless task trying to stop it unless you can cool them down , spliting them into smaller containers and placing the conatiners in bowls of water can help , a metal container works best which is why the old timers preferred the old metal bait tins. You could take some plain crumb ground bait so that if they do turn you can crush some of the casters and add them to the groundbait maybe along with some crushed hemp , this will fizz with some casters floating up to different degrees . (worked for the great Ivan Marks !)
  14. There's only one way and that is to keep them cold , decent cool box with lots of ice packs .
  15. You won't know till you try your self
  16. Nice bit of editing once you had shown your true colours !!! Blackwater or Chelmer ?
  17. oh er missus , remember no swearing on here ! Didn't ask for your location , why would I do that . I'm just interested in the stretch of water you saw the EE's thats all hardly asking you to hand over state secrets LOL.
  18. Because we're a friendly forum who exchange ideas etc or is there some sort of reason you don't wish to share .
  19. what stretch of river was this if you don't mind me asking ?
  20. You don't fish any of the essex club waters that half decent fish in then !! Some of the Essex clubs have (maybe still do) had major problems with idiots getting drunk and off their heads on god knows what .
  21. Exactly right Nick , being by the water needs respect at the best of times ! Factor in being under the influence of drink/drugs then the dangers are multiplied ten fold.
  22. Can they or do they ? I'm not sure there would be a reason for them to go to those sort of depths , I think its a bit of a myth that carp go to the deepest water in cold weather .
  23. In answer to your question I think the meaning 'a social ' has changed over the years . I used to see it as a group of anglers that fished the same water/waters but at different times all getting together once or twice a year and fishing together but also with a large element of chatting exchanging stories fish captures etc. Today i see it as meaning lets take half the lake over and all get [censored]ed / stoned and fudge the others that are trying for a peacefull fishing trip ! Its a term that gets used far to much IMO and is just an excuse to get slaughtered ..
  24. Playing devils advocate a bit , just because booze is as bad or worse doesn't mean weed should be legalised two wrongs don't make a right . Another way to look at it , if alcohol was invented today would it be legal ? the answer is probably a big fat no . As with all addictive things some are able to control them some aren't ,
