  1. When looking at a water you fancy visiting is there anything about the way they are run or rules on bait tackle or angling style that puts you off? Nice little water close to me i would like to fish but you have to be a member to fish there that's ok in itself but they also want you to text them and let them know what peg you are in, not that i move pegs much once set up but it's nice to have the option to move freely around the lake without having to send a text message every time.
  2. Use your teeth to chew it up Terry Hearn style, double dare ya 😃
  3. For some of us shorter guys a 10'' rod is easier to cast that a 12'' rod i can get better distance with more accuracy with my 10 footers, i don't buy into the whole better to cast under trees, when i was using 12's in a tight swim i would just pop a pair of waders on and stand in the margins to cast out. Really happy with my Fox Torques some of the other brands are a bit pricey and i don't like telescopic rods, if i was after a set of twelve foot rods again and had the money i would definitely go for the Torques again, the only downside being they don't come with a line clip. Fox sell those separate.
  4. Easy mistake to make i'm often mistaken for a soup tycoon 😁
  5. Think i might be wrong on that remember reading it online, but it turns out William Hill is the name of one of ADs founders, think wherever i read it was the bookies might be a mistake?
  6. Didn't know Erics had been bought out Chapmans has also been bought up by AD along with Fosters in Brum, i think AD is owned by William Hill the bookies so they will have plenty of money backing them. A lot of lakes are now starting to sell tackle on site i use Lavender Hall lakes shop they have a good stock and there is Lanes Tackle but they have been reducing the amount of carp tackle they stock these past few years. Looks like AD will soon be able to put the prices up to near full retail price and more importantly for them, buy their stock at a very low wholesale price by letting manufacturers know if they want shelf space they are going to have to sell to AD for a very low price. Online wise, i liked Chapmans and Erics and have also used AD.
  7. I probably will be the same, the loops are good and very easy to change when a new hook is needed and they take a sharpening, just never been a big fan of Korda hooks, might give the QL booms a go at some point, join the ronnie rig craze. There is a smaller company called Gemini tackle that sell on facebook they do a fused boom section that looks good, have a look they do a full ronnie kit.
  8. Tried them myself the last two sessions out, they are an ok combi rig better than a coated braid rig but not as fine as a hand tied combi the join is not as good. Can tie my own combies and have been doing so for donkeys, but have started to look for something a little less taxing on the eyes, did think about getting some korda crimp pliers but a bit pricey for what they are so the booms are a good compromise, been thinking about using a different braid for the hook and tying my own hooks ups and connecting them to the boom section with a simple palomar knot? Any thoughts on that anyone? The Korda braid loops are a bit stiff out of the packet but become more supple when wet, think some of the finer Kryston braids would be a better hook section.
  9. best time of the year to get out i'd say, seeing your water at its most busey with the wildlife is always entertaining, seeing all the big fish cruising around the surface just sunning themselves. Besides if Britain is going into a new golden age, hiding from the midday sun won't cut it. lol.
  10. Last few sessions i have just been taking boilie 3 kilo usually, gets a bit pricey for me though so i'm only taking 1 kilo next week maybe 2, but i have just ordered some pellets from Purepellets 2k of mix and 2k of GLM, plus i have 2k of Coppens carp pellets bought local. Going to mix up around 2kilo of the pellets in with a bag of frozen corn half a kilo of cooked hemp a tin of chickpeas and most of what ever boilies i buy, should bulk the spomb mix out a bit, also got a good quality tuna oil fish mix liquid to zing it all up a bit. Still using the Cov Gold boilies and matchinging wafter for two rods the third will have a pop up on , either a fruity cream pear, krill or a salty squid. So i would say about 20 quid for two days angling bait wise.
  11. Just called in to my local go-out-doors they have the full range, will be getting one for next time i go. can't stand citronella myself and the skin so soft needs near constant application the deet stuff can work out pricey. Not sure which to get myself probably be the backpack version.
  12. Just back from a couple of days on stanwick got bite silly in that hot weather we just had, found that a good relief from post-bite itch is mouthwash, the bivey was damn near bouncing at one point with all the bitey things banging around in there.
  13. Heading out for a quick over-nighter

    Dogs and fishing

I couldn't go without the dog, he only has to see me getting the gear ready and he is ready for the off.
  16. Looks like they are made from a ground stone compound and bound together with epoxy resin, the same stuff used in art and craft works such as penny flooring. They say it is environmentally friendly and biodegradable, not sure if that includes being used in this way and ending up on the bottom of the lake. That's if it is made from epoxy resin just a guess.
  17. That would be ideal the coating is only there to give the braid some stiffness all the strength is in the braid, you could even leave an inch or so of coating on at the swivel end, that way it would kick out from the lead if the fish knock your bait about.
  18. Getting the gear ready to head out thursday, just have to nip to the ballot box first and cast my MEP vote 😂 just don't mention the B word 💶
  19. I'd look into the running costs before you buy, there are a lot of extras to keep a boat on the waterways, you can either pay for a mooring place which ain't cheap and is priced on boat size, or you can be continuously cruising which means moving the boat every two weeks, then there is the boat version of a tax disk needed for all motor boats, that is also pricey. then there is the newish laws for petrol engines and on-board gas cookers water heaters, few years back petrol engine boats were going fairly cheap due to the regulations. you also need a safety certificate which is similar to a MOT and has to be renewed every three years. You also need at least third party fire and theft insurance, My dad had a canal boat back in the 1990s and it was pricey back then hate to think what they charge these days just for a pile of paper work. If you can get something that is classed as a day boat and pull it on a trailer the costs might not be so high, boats are well worth the money though so long as you know what you need to pay for before buying a boat, lot of sharks out there in the boat trading world, do the homework.
  20. Anyone got any info on how the canal network is fairing? just wondering if the otters would be put-off by a narrow man made waterway, maybe the inner city stretches could be a bit of a safe haven for larger fish.
  21. That must hurt a bit stand out commons like that one are getting rare in most modern lakes, don't think we have had much of a problem with the Os in this part of the midlands, think i might of seen one on canal pool a few years back but it could of been a mink. Few of my favs, had all three of these beauties one early summer evening on pine pool, my favourite time of the year to be out, Even the mozzies were getting in the pics lol
  22. What it is that makes them yuk, a lot of people seem to rate the nash shelfies, the bloke who runs the lake i fish feeds them to his fish and sells to the members at a fair rate, the fish are doing ok on it. I use the Cov Gold from coventry carp baits its a great bait company very small and a three bait recipe bait line two fish meals and a nut bait.
  23. Carp angling as a whole can be very bitchy in comparison to other forms of angling, sea anglers are super helpful, even match anglers don't take any opportunity to slate the bloke next to them and there is money involved in that game. I put it down to the specimen aspect of carp fishing, everyone wants the biggest hardest to catch carp, easily leads down the road of one-up manship.
  24. When i was fishing kingsbury and using mainlines hybrid i was getting more commons than anything else, i did think back then that the commons in pine pool really liked the hybrid, might be something in it, might not be, on the water i'm fishing at the mo, i have only had mirrors out, i have only been getting out a few times a year though these past few years, the damp air is really messing with my chest, i have always had problems with acid reflux which is now causing a lot of inflammation in my breathing pipes. gonna see if the doc will hook me up with some steroids or something try and cut back on the flair ups and get out fishing a bit more.
  25. Didn't go well from the start thanks to the first Dragon calling out the ethics of catch and release, think that would of put the others off too, i'm sure the guy will have plenty of private investors willing to help him become a big manufacture across Europe. surprised by the small profits he has been making so far. Notice the sales drop on the previous year that coincides with when Jim Shelly left, be interesting to see if the is an increase since he went back.
