  1. me and fuolro have a love relationship especially tiger line if you only have small reels to fill the tiger line is nearly as good as a nylon line for casting and behaves really well it's just not suited to coloured water or water with floating sediment. heavy weed clear water short range casting suits fluorocarbon best.
  2. sounds about right rolling the sausage straight away worked best. the fourteen mm sausage table is not really practical for any more than a single bag mix a gun would be a lot faster,. last of the paste rolled today getting better round shapes, should be golden for the hook baits. end results and amounts
  3. so far so good pleased with the results i have cooked half the mix the rest i will do tomorrow, as the finished bait is drying the scent is changing becoming more complex strangely there is a hint of fizz to the smell when you get close to a pile the sent really does ping out from the bait it's like a gentle fizz? will do the other half of this mix should be ok as i'm making sausages by hand might make it easier to use the rolling table. a good caulking gun is a must something i will look into.
  4. First batch cooked bit odd bod shaped but that's OK I know they are mixed well and cooked to the minimum.
  5. so just mixed up the kilo of base mix got 1.3 kilo of paste will be rolling soon it is resting in the fridge fairly easy to mix did use my hook tool on the second mix, just need a welder now as explained in the video. it's a long one filmed as is.
  6. last of my minimalist kit has arrived the rolling table is better quality plastic than i thought, thought it would be brittle. the cork dust is really fine so should roll ok and that cream from jb is divine i know it's a mix of milks and creams but it really is nice just need to nip and get a chip basket and i will do the kilo mix in two batches today and hook baits tomorrow. do a video to see just how it is for a novice to roll their own baits, probably be talking to myself.
  7. not a good sign if the perch have disappeared they can live is real harsh conditions it may be the pond did not have enough food in the water or it could be a few carp eating all the silver fish spawn that reduced the perch numbers.
  8. bit of an odd question but what's the maximum time you could put a fresh made paste log into the fridge and still roll it on a table roller, some pastries and dough's can be left overnight in the fridge before working, would a base mix become too stiff for rolling if left overnight in the fridge?
  9. wouldn't worry about it some people like to ferment their bait, salty near to boiling water will get rid of anything that might grow mould, just don't warp the bucket with water that is too hot.
  10. i like the look of that well thought out i suppose you could put a hook stop bead above the bait just to make sure the bait don't slide up the line on the cast i do like the look of it could also give the braid better anti tangle casting due to no hair , will be giving it a go on a wafter bait.
  11. Getting there just waiting on the rolling table and Cork dust
  12. I do a lot of baking mixing a kilo base mix by hand is not a problem so doubt I will use the drill, you could make a hook with a old tent peg the drill will hold that, I use it for mixing paints with a spoon. I have a good mixer with with hook in the kitchen but it will be less hassle to do it by hand, if I was knocking up ten kilo of paste in one go I would use a Hobart or similar not needed for this. it more about small batch outrageously high quality ingredients following well proven recipes at some point I will be getting some flours' in to make my own 50/50 mix as a base for more high end ingredients, look into chick pea and red lentil flour if such things would work similar to soya and maize flour some high end almond flour that sort of thing just so im sure that no matter what else i'm doing my bait is better than anything else I could of used. just not sure which fish meal base mix to use essential baits k5 looks like the best krill mix you can get in a pack?
  13. not sure as of yet but if i have a problem i will use a power drill and fork like the match anglers do i use a wooden spoon in a drill for another job that pops up every now and then, works a treat
  14. just a little thread to bump up with updates on rolling my own baits as I have the time it seems silly not to. I will be using a few different ready mix packs mainly from john baker and haith's should be rolling by Tuesday my wife of many years knows all about carp baits so I have been moved into the outdoor cupboard for my bait making, I did say it's not a nasty one but nope no such thing as a nice bait smell just hope next door don't mind their living room is on the other side of that wall. turn this mess into a bait room.
  15. i'm never drinking that sourz again next door got a bottle out last summer first one was alright then we slammed the rest of the bottle on top of several cans of carling i was battered when i left next doors mrs went mad at her fella he really can drink and i kept up not good on a hot afternoon.
  16. to do my own i have the fourteen mm rolling table on route also going to get the 8 mm table and either the eighteen or 20 mm will also be trying some of the haithe's clo base mix to roll loose feed catapult pingers and bulk feed baits do it with the hook bait and rig area bait flavours from john baker. while we are on boilies and to save starting a thread, is there any reason why milk baits are not as popular as they once was, there's no denying they are just as good as a anything else, would it be too tricky and costly to get a milk hnv in a retail freezer bag? as I'm doing small batch hook baits a bit different to how advised, I don't want a one egg mix of just pop ups or wafters as I will be using cork dust I will need to make up a dry mix with no cork, a mix with a wafter amount of cork and pop ups don't really want to do three separate one egg mixes. ten of each bait will be fine for hook baits thinking of one large egg plus flavours split into three portions and the same for the dry mix with varying amounts of cork in each mix or a less than one small egg for each mix. plus i will be rolling a stack of fourteen mm baits with the milk n honey mix i might do a video blog on it for you tube, that site could defiantly do with some more bait videos.
  17. i'm too old for nights out drinking that's for sure, took the mrs out keep her happy for when i head back onto the lakes started on the bottles of hob goblin gold, nice beer tastes like a strong shandy then we got onto the baileys followed by a bottle of red not a good mix i hate booze as it is that dehydrated feel the next day is just horrid, think next time she wants a night out i will get a young lad in to spin her round the town, i can get on with my bait rolling then.
  18. already seen it done at barston i was impressed, kept the steering and replaced everything else with a flat platform one of the guys in bcac matches.
  19. club/season tickets are good water parks that sort of thing or one i fancy and anyone can get is the stanwick season ticket think it's 250 for the year you get both mallard and swan on that plus the general angling lakes just a shame swan is so close to the 45 some really nice leather carp in there. fair few guys from up north travel down.
  20. it's very hard to get on a syndicate these days due to so many newish anglers coming into carp angling if you haven't already got a foot through the gate when asking to join there is very little chance of getting a ticket it's not just about fishing, syndicates are a very unique place from the outside some look clicky, they are not, just very closed knit until the other anglers can see why you are there. honestly when I first joined the one I am on I was a bit taken back by the guy that runs the place I very nearly walked away but then again I was being a bit forward asked about hot pegs when on a first visit work party, the answer was blunt lol, he is a nice guy very fair and well aware of tittle telling sulky anglers he text me some advise the last few times i was out plus like most anglers they do like to talk about where and how they had the good ones out.
  21. well don't look like waddie is coming to mine he is in a home but got a bit bitey, not his fault he ate one of his toys and had to have it removed keeping him from opening his wound stressed him out and someone took a licken, not really for me but it sounds like they are not sure if they want to rehome him or not, plus i think it may be a strong sheep dog line mixed with a few other dogs from that part of the world.
  22. so i kind of have half an eye on a rescue dog from Oman in the middle east, he is a one year old wadi dog proper street dog they are said to be really nice dogs the one in rescue is pure black and has a real Persian look to him, they get treated real bad over there, some say they are one of the oldest domestic dogs in history, i know the people from that part of the world are brick scarred of them, think it's ex pats that rescue them and send them over. not looking for a carp dog though so he would have to behave at home when I'm not there.
  23. also helps if you read the set up instructions, putting the handles on with the stickers facing up looks right but you soon realise there is something wrong when the barrow goes over on the first turn.
  24. shame levigsp and others don't post anymore I have caught good fish after reading levigsp's posts, I started using heavy fluorocarbon with great results after reading posts on here , would love to know his thoughts on fussy carp that will only eat what they really like whilst ignoring a good but made for retail use bait. are carp that don't need to compete for a feed a bite time fussy eaters?
