That' makes a lot of sense tbh there are always lots of those rumours, and I guess over time the silt will form and just fill in the voids, much like the water in a bath always goes to the lowest point ie plug and I guess the undertow acts like a rake and helps to smooth it all over

Thanks Dayvid I've been trying to get an answer like that for ages about how it defines the bottom that's all I would really want it for and depth I think I will stick with a marker float and lead then as that tells me enough of what I am fishing on, it also makes me think if I was going to opt for tech I would consider a fishspy as I think the camera would be more useful to me for finding spots
-
Does a deeper differenciate between silt, gravel, sand, choddy bottoms etc?
-
I think the longshank looks pretty good tbh looks tricky to eject and with a straight point opens it up a little more
-
The long shanks arrived today I think they could be a useful hook, they aren't massive like the old longshank nailors, but the angle on the eye and the straight point, may just make them a good choice for pop ups I think, I will try and tie one up to show you when I get time,
-
I think they are OK my pop up rig seems to work and has nailed a few fish on my test runs, I just think a straight point may be better, however I got some good news today bank tackle will be releasing some of the wide gapes with a straight point I think that will be the one Long shanks are really just to have a play with to see what I can do with them really
-
Im hoping you're not talking bream Just ordered a couple of different patterns to Try including a long shank both straight point π

I've spent all day doubting my rigs and trying to think of Improvements π, looks like another visit to the runs water will be on the cards I did try a simple knot less knot rig with a snowman using esp tungsten braid with a little silicone on the bend of the hook that was quite nice and simple

Ha I've been putting frozen fruit in my gin and saying the same thing

I feel a bit better now at least I had a little salad In my kebab I think its probably a good idea to eat well I feel quite sluggish today luckily I don't feel like I am doing too much wrong, just need the carp to appreciate that
-
Very healthy nick I think I am still going through the teenager out night fishing phase just had sausages in cheese topped baps for breakfast π

How do you guys rate the tx2 rods, I was looking at those as they do a nice looking Cork handle version? I was also looking at 12ft 3.25lb

Look at the stats 162 guests and a lot of those recently visited members haven't probably posted for ages

I see what you are saying, would maybe better with a straight point, I guess the silicone moves when the bait gets picked up and straightens a bit , but something to think about none the less, I do tend to mainly fish pop ups and wafters tbh but always seeking to improve the rig so cheers
-
Have you mentioned on here any specific details might be a lurker? I wonder how many lurkers visit and never post? Culls always get people posting On another forum I frequented there was an inner sanctum where only people that regularly posted got invited, it meant that people could talk more freely about there situation without fear of someone stealing there ideas without Contributing , just a thought, it also encouraged non posters to post as they wanted to see what the cream of the crop were talking about
-
I was using one until I added the silicone dont know why I stopped adding one really, thanks will have a look later and probably use them again.
-
Just remember you need to check them if you get anything that resembles a pick up, I thought I had a line bite last week turns out I'd been done and my rig wasn't performing for a while after that Or as Danny Fairbrass would say my rig was on the dance floor but with its trousers and pants rounds it's ankles getting laughed at even by bream That's the only real downside I can see to the multi rig it doesn't reset itself, if you're not sure give it a recast
-
Cheers mate tight lines to you also have a good one

Having given up for a good few years I have to say Ive not been this excited about a fishing trip for ages, I spodded out a load of bait ready for tomorrow all on a lovely gravel strip every spod hit the clip and I just cant wait to get there now, I feel a little confident tbh maybe one of those elusive carp will slip up, if not i will learn something and get a step closer I'm just glad I've found the buzz again I feel like that kid that's peering over the edge of the pond through the reeds, looking for the mysterious big one that you only see as the sun goes down Happy days
-
should i get a load of different bait?
elmoputney replied to pukkacarp's topic in UK Bait and Bait Making
I'll give you another reason for not using spod mixes and multiple ingredients you get covered in spod juice and it gets in your hair all over your clothes, spod rod and everywhere else in your swim, I smell fantastic now though like a walking bait shop π -
I've been using silicone lately as long as the hook eye turns to the angle you want it's fine, and easier to use as no steaming rqd I've just been cutting bits off old rig tubing will try and find a pic

That's pretty impulsive, I bet he will regret it a bit, but if he enjoys match fishing then I guess that's up to him, I quite enjoyed catching the odd rudd on the whip but I wouldn't want to not fish for proper sized carp(breamπ₯) to do it, but I don't think carp fishing is for everyone really some people do just want and are happy getting a bend in the rod, I once had a mate I fished with but he got into other stuff and I found I got proper into carp fishing, joined a club lake by myself learnt all I could and I've never looked back, now I am not sure if I like company when I am fishing (I've convinced myself that anyway) cos I am so used to fishing by myself I love the peace and quiet these days, just focus on your own goals Highy and you will achieve them
