  1. I did make quite a nice rig with the loaded this morning simple and effective, but looks like it would work and be reliable, I am now very much on board with the hook sharpening btw, my hooks are always sharp before they enter the water
  2. I did that again this morning and actually I think I may not be whipping the knot well enough or something, when that knot is right it tightens quite easily, I may persevere for a bit longer as it might be down to human error and trying to make sure it was tight or not quite getting it right,
  3. I've been having a play tonight and the conclusion I've drawn is I don't like korda IQ, I've noticed when tightening the knots down it's done a couple of strange things tonight one of them stretched and concertinered a bit, another one seemed to develop a nick in the fluorocarbon where none were before, which would almost certainly be a weak spot, I won't be using it again anyway, it just doesn't give me confidence so it's back to the drawing board may have found a solution to the silicone problem though wide gapes with there in turned eye that seemed to kick them over nicely , I might try using the avid pin down leader material in the morning I've been happy with my leaders so far so may work as a boom section If not I may just go back to tungsten loaded knotless knot and shrink tube, they used to work in the olden days quite well
  4. Which type of silicone do you use I didn't really like how the one I tried worked tbh looked ok to start with bit then after a while I found the pull of the pop up was straightening it out ,if that makes sense, And also which fluorocarbon are you using ? I really like the rig overall and it seems to work but I can't have failures and would like this to be a 1 off Thanks Elmo
  5. It was out in open water not far off the surface at the time so I don't think it cut off on anything in the water definately seems like a rig failure to me , I really want to use the fluorocarbon if I can as it looks lovely underwater but I can't have it failing on me as what's the point , I would've been gutted if it was st Ives, I will try and make a similar rig using tungsten loaded tonight and see what I can create, it was 20lb korda IQ fluorocarbon I was using btw
  6. Hi guys I've been playing about with the mark bryant ultimate rig and I thought I had got to a point where I was chuffed to bits with it, It seemed to be presenting perfectly and with the addition of shrink tube I was getting the perfect angle on my hook, However I got a screaming take earlier and it went about 10 yards before I picked up the rod was in contact with it clutch was set fine as it was stripping line then nothing, the rig had parted at the fluorocarbon section, not even at the knot just and it didn't look stretched or anything almost like I had cut it, would this be down to steaming the shrink tube ? As that's the only reason I have everything else had been checked all knots had been tightened prior to steaming so I thought it was ok Any thoughts on this as I don't want to lose anymore fish, luckily it's a barbless only rule there so it should lose it ok
  7. I'm not sure so far 40kg boilies (£275) and about 50kg of (£70 approx) particle and 30kg of pellets( £40 ish ), plus about £90 worth of pop ups, wafters ,glugs etc, And about £80 worth of basemix and ingredients etc, I tend to stock up on particle when monster particles have a £1 a kilo sale though, which se seems to be every weekend but I didn't know that then so getting on for £500 then eek, and I'm starting to get low again I have 10kg particles in the freezer and about the same of boilies plus 2 bags of sweetcorn, And some dynamite robin red pellets left, which I have to say are great, within 5 mins of me throwing some 4mm out this morning with a handful of glugged boilies, the water was clouding up and they were going absolutely nuts for them
  8. Couldn't you coil up the zigs a bit and then using some PVA tape or string, tie them up then it melts and rises to the proper depth that may help with the cast
  9. Most definately, I used to try and intercept them on the way through, when I fished it there was a tree with 1 overhanging branch in the middle and underneath that it was so clear it was a great little spot to try and stop them
  10. If I find one that works I won't be complaining 👍
  11. Ha I am still surprised someone actually listened to me 😀 Glad to help though 👍
  12. I never got to grips with the big part of that water so I used to focus on the islands half but I had about a dozen different spots I used to bait, I found that worked out well for me there were usually plenty of fish up that end but looking back I could've benefitted from mastering it as a whole, I sometimes think I wouldn't mind going back one day
  13. I haven't said I will be using them all at once btw I may only take a couple with me as I don't like to carry too much these days, it works out a lot cheaper to buy 5 through a post free deal £27.50 than 4 with postage £29.10 so my decision to buy 5 was that it made economic sense, I saved on postage and got more baits for my bucks,
  14. It depends how long you need them to to stay buoyant rarely will I leave them out more than 12 hours, I like the cork dust ones they seem very bouyant to me,I've left them out overnight and tested them when I've bought them in still standing firm, I have a pretty good feeling about these baits also, I am a lot happier with my bait choice now, can only try them and find out but I am confident as they seem to catch a lot of fish for others, including some lovely st Ives residents 👍
  15. I now have lots of options, they smell good especially the PB'S can't wait to give em a try now
  16. I tend to put a bit in a few places and keep trickling it in, unless I am trying to make something happen or clear a spot then I may go heavier , but even then I will make sure there is also bait in other places, tbh I would've put some in but I had already emptied the bucket in other spots today
  17. Have a look at my caulking gun thread that might help you
  18. I wish it was that simple where I am they are really good at hiding I saw one in an area that is completely unfishable today
  19. September was always my favourite month tbh,I doubt there are many times better for a good pre baiting campaign, if time allows I will be fishing harder then Do you tend to focus your baiting to one area @emmcee or spread it about the lake on various spots ? (If you dont mind me asking )
  20. Their cork dusk pop ups seem very buoyant so far, I would have no worries leaving one of those out for ages, and also the wafters seem very good too So hopefully these will be the same, tbh the main reason for 5 is the post free deal it works out a lot cheaper to buy more it's just a case of trial and error now to see which will work best or quickest in my angling situations, not having the time like I used to means I need to find the way to get quick bites, the right one should aid that I guess
  21. Ep 42 of the carp cast also has quite a good Interview with Kevin Nash, and they talk about zigs quite a bit I found that quite interesting tbh worth a listen I think
  22. That was a bit spooky just listening to ep42 of the carp cast and Rob Hughes did a little talk about DNA pop ups his thoughts were BRIGHT BAITS WORK BEST IN CLEAR WATER,in coloured water they need a strong smell to help the fish locate them, but once they can see them they still work Pink will stand out against anything as no bottom is pink White is good in shallow clear water with lots of light or deeper water,in average depths he thinks going for a colour may be preferable Yellow you may think will stand out but silt underwater is a sort of yellowy colour and will blend into the algae and filamentous weed but a good fluoro yellow like the pb would be a nice and subtle and stand out enough but not be too blatant
  23. Thanks guys I've just ordered some from DNA post free specials I went for there half tones to match the flavour of my bait but white and washed out pink Some yellow PBS Pink perils White milky malts And some orange fruitylicous That should give me enough variety to try and find the right pop up for any situation, I already have matching corkdusk popups and wafters too and actually quite a few others too Will let you know what I find out, I think I have been putting my fear of yellow in clear water down to what the birds will see and destroy in the shallower part of the lake , but I have found a couple of nice spots in the deeper end today which will help and I think yellow will be first on the bait screw, when I get them, I remember catching a few on the old nutrabaits pineapple and banana baits in the olden days I am hoping these pb's smell as good 😁
  24. I do but they tend to slip down when I am resting 😀😀
  25. I am mainly ankles and builders bum area 😀
