I went for the large in the end. There was 2 on eBay last night within an hour of each other so had to make a decision. I don’t particularly like well fitting clothes anyway and even my t-shirts are baggy so I went for the large when I could easily have gone for the medium . I read on another forum about a fella recommending the bigger size saying the more air in there the more warm air created . oh and the large was in DPM lol . Just need a light compact but warm sleeping bag now 🤣

Hello my friend . I’m using the already made up paste direct from Essential. Mike Wilmott told me it’s exactly the same as the stuff their boilies are made from so , to me , it’s the size relative to the consistency of the paste that is the problem . I added extra liquid food to the paste and kneaded it in thoroughly before rolling the baits by hand for the latest batch and the end result WAS an improvement albeit not much but what I’ve done with a few is make them using one of those Nash groundbait ball makers in 60mm . Now because the resulting Boilie was a bit bigger than what is required and because the cracks that appear are random and appeared at no particular place on the baits ( ie not always straight through the middle) I’ve been able to trim them down to the required size , and those that have cracked straight through the centre I’ve sliced straight through with the intention of mounting the 2 halves back to back on my blowback Combi rigs . After all who says hookbaits have to be spherical eh ?

Cheers fellas … so pretty much guesswork 🤣

Yon / Emcee , what’s the sizing like on those Snugpak jackets ? Do they come up big or small ? I don’t like anything really close fitting but then I don’t wanna LOOK like a Sasquatch either 🤣

That kilo & a half wouldn’t last 5 minutes on my water . Especially this time of year in this mild Autumn.

Food & Cooking gear bag
newmarket replied to Pete Springate's Guns's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Nice old thread cunningly resurrected I see . just for the hell of it , I use a Saber cool bag for my weekend grub stash , drinks & ice pack . My cooker and griddle comes in its own carry case and I also have a recently donated NGT plates & cutlery set in its own little case . More individual items to worry about but they’re all pretty small no don’t really affect the overall load . As an aside , I’m quite impressed with the Saber luggage in general tbh their 3 rod hold-all , ruck sack and general tackle bags large and small are all pretty good for the money . Must be quite a new brand as I don’t recall them in 2016 when I went into Fishing retirement. -
What do we feel the advantages are of solid bags over , say , funnel web/sticks/stringers that I tend to use ?

In my experience, what looks like a mid-double can actually only be a scraper . I always refused to weigh fish that visibly looked smaller than my pb but recent experience, and I mean this year after my sabbatical, has had me thinking about it a lot . Size and weight aren’t really that important to me but the 2 fine fish I caught first time up on a day ticket were estimated to be mid-double and because I didn’t think they approached the , magic for many , 20 mark I didn’t bother weighing . I now think at least one of them at least may have been a twenty . Because since then on my new water Ive over and under estimated many Carp . I’ve taken to weighing every second or third fish now , when I’m lucky enough to catch that many that is , as some I’ve estimated at 13-14lbers have only actually been 9-10lbers. My last fish I estimated at about 16 and was in fact nearer 18 & a half . im getting a better idea of the size shape and general stamp of fish in my syndicate now so I’ll know when I get a big un . Where it gets difficult I feel is when you fish many venues rather than a regular water.

Well when I googled ‘lakes to lease’ this was the first hit https://www.fisheries.co.uk/forsale/ there are others though . Most are for sale of course but there are leaseholds available to find if looking thoroughly. Hope this helps.

Is this not just another word for unprepared hempseed ? If so then the answer is yes , I think we probably all have at some point . Wilkommen .

Gutted to read about your boy mate and I hope the school don’t try to use the old “outside school not our responsibility” card . My son’s just started secondary school and tbh I’ve been worried sick about him as I remember bullying was rife when I was at school . He’s forbidden to take his phone to school for just that reason , I’m paranoid about it . I hope your son gets through the trauma unscathed Highy … the offending cowardly brat needs running in 😡

I love the ESP range of terminal tackle, well all the plasticky/rubber bits rig/heli booms etc , Enterprise bits for my run rings rubber beads etc . Im going through a bit of a crisis with hooks at the moment as I’m forced to go barbless and they seem much of a muchness tbh . I’ve been using Bank Tackles recently . The only stuff I avoid (and this is just a personal thing) is Korda and anything to do with lead clips & leaders/tubing .

Of course 👍🏻

Or just buy a couple of tubs of pop ups and save all the aggravation 😉

This word is something that has been grinding my gears for a long time . In the context of Fishing what does the word actually mean ? Because it seems to me to mean the obvious. Socialising. When I’m fishing I’ll often share a cuppa with the fella in the next swim ( if there is one) and I’m quite happy to have a chat with the Bailiff or anybody that might stroll by . Even the young ‘uns that can never resist asking “had anything mate ?” or “what bait your using mate ?” . Those questions are not always welcome but I’m never rude . I don’t reply that I can’t chat with them cos I’m ‘not on a social today’…. So what is “a social” in the context of Carp Fishing in particular or even Fishing generally ? Are Carp fisherman that don’t consider themselves to be ‘on a social’ taking their session so seriously that they refuse to interact with anybody else whilst fishing , which in my opinion is just damn rude ? Or is “A Social” just another name for a bank side glorified [censored] up ? Discuss .

It’s just a wild stab in the dark but I think it may be the cork dust causing the problem. https://ccmoore.com/28-hard-hookbait-mixes m maybe I’m coming across as a bit pedantic, if so it’s not intentional, but if you look at the CC Moore website description of the hard hookbait mix and take it literally it looks like it’s designed for sinking bottom baits , mixing with dust to produce wafters and/or balanced bottom baits yet specifically mentions Cork BALLS for the use of pop ups. I don’t know how that would make a difference (maybe the actual amount you’re using ?) and maybe I’m thinking too much . But it is just a thought …

Trakker tempest social cap ground sheet
newmarket replied to Griffindor's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
You know , the are hundreds of photos of these social extension things all over the internet….and not one of them shows a groundsheet . tells a story possibly ? -
Yes Good luck Finchey 👍🏻

I’m sure Nick will do the honours 😉

I don’t . My stove won’t fit in a bucket . Now a small suitcase mind…. 😀
-
How much is it going to be Elmo ? Any ideas ? 😊
-
Not at all mate , if I hadn’t seen the stocking photos with my own eyes I’d probably question it myself . But yes , all part of the puzzle . I said to Nick ( I think) only the other week that it’s the challenge that I’m enjoying so it doesn’t matter to me whether a catch a big girl this weekend or if it takes 5 years The important part to me is that whatever the plan , I’ll have the opportunity to implement it as I don’t have to rush to the lake after work in order to get a swim , ANY swim . I can casually turn up when I feel like it and pick & choose location. That fact , I’m delighted to say , is reflected in the title of the thread and is worth every penny of the annual ticket money regardless of the stamp of fish.

Yep I could do with another bucket to carry 🤣

I’ve had takes from 6-8lbers with double 24 millers . They tend to make the bait longer but they still get their gums round em easily enough . last time out I was using the 40mm boilies that had split by pulling them apart and threading them on the hair separately as like one boilie. I had to sit on my hands , the alarms going off in 3/4 sec bursts as they were trying to get the bait in their mouths . Once a proper full on run was forthcoming I could set the hook but they were usually 10-13lbish . which is fine by the way , I’m not a snob , all carp are welcome . Ill be continuing to fish my hookbaits like this as it does stop the endless 3-5lbers which quite frankly do become a nuisance during the hours of darkness but I think I’m going to have to concentrate more on location than bait size . Trouble with that is it’s a small lake and it’s usually a hive of activity everywhere there are so many carp in it so it’s difficult to tell where to fish . Maybe the deeper parts of the lake ? It’s usually 3-4ft deep all over with a few areas going as deep as 5ft but with the very hot weather we had up until recently the water levels have really dropped by up to 50% in places . I can’t imagine the bigger fish laying up in 18 inches of water can you ? can anybody ?
