  1. Glad to hear your still getting out and about anyway mate , I obviously only learnt about it by reading it here 👍🏻 These Butt rests sound just the ticket , can’t be having my new pride & joys spoiled like that eh ? Large size I assume ? As for the ⚒’s … you know we’re never happy , Moyes out ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  2. Hi Steve hope you’re well . lm glad you mentioned that as my new rods have cork handles and I never would have thought it otherwise. more expense it is then 🙄🤣
  3. There’s nowt wrong with my solid rubber ones . £25 each ? See what I mean ? 🤮
  4. Good God Who would do that ? Thats in my watching page now . How much will that £11.97’s worth sell for do we reckon ? 🙄
  5. Sorry I don’t concern myself with politics too much . Not only do I not understand most of it but I fail to see how a item of fishing tackle manufactured in and imported from China is affected by the fact that we aren’t in the EU any longer ?
  6. Is it my imagination but has the cost of Carp fishing gone through the roof recently ? Ive had a 6/7 year sabbatical from the game , as some of you know , and I went round to my parents old place where my brother still lives at the weekend to get the majority of my Carping gear which he’s been storing for me . To my disgust , some of it has gone walkies , Nephews and the like who have ‘ borrowed’ bits and pieces and never returned em . For example my very nice Cyprinus cradle has gone missing and in its place a tatty looking old Nash Hooligan unhooking May has just appeared in its place … and that’s not the only thing . So you fellas can expect a series of “which ?” Threads from myself in the next few weeks as I try to replace stuff that has gone for a hike. Now , my decision to go from a 2 to 3 rod set up means having to shell out for extra stuff anyway but the prices are ridiculous are they not ? I have admittedly picked up a couple of bargains recently on eBay , some Free Spirit rods and a 3rd Fox Alarm . But Bank Sticks for example . I need 6 . Circa £20 a pop ffs ? My JRC sti 2 man . As much as I love it it’s too damned heavy for me to lug around these days and my arthritic hands have all sorts of trouble setting it up as anyone who’s owned one can probably imagine , SO I’m on the lookout for a Brolly system . Have you SEEN the price of a half decent one these days after buying the other ( usually pretty necessary) bits to go with it ? £400 upwards maybe ? Im on the lookout for another Daiwa reel to go with my other two . They’ve been discontinued now but still crop up on the auction sites now and again and £50+ opening bids don’t even reach their reserve . I didn’t pay that for em knew ffs 🤦🏼‍♂️ ONE Stow indicator , second hand , £20+ …. Am I over reacting having been away for a while or are tackle firms taking the pee ?
  7. If those ‘no fishing’ signs are no longer there then I’d start baiting up 😊 I had a similar scenario on a local park lake a few years ago , it’s even documented on here somewhere, I got in touch with a local councillor who made a few enquiries and found no legislation forbidding fishing at all even though there WAS an ancient ‘ no fishing’ sign tucked away behind a bush In fact he got the lake and feeder stream de-silted and tried to get me to organise some sort of Angling society for local kids . Me 🤣 So you never know your luck it never hurts to ask . failing that I’d just guest it quietly of a night 😉
  8. Hi Ginge , I love floater fishing . my set up ? 1.75lb tc Avon type or Barbel rod , one of my old smaller bait runner type reels 8lb Drennan double strength line and a size 10 hook with a fake chum mixer banded to it . Simple . Dampen your doggy biscuits and add some oil of some kind . As well as adding attraction to the freebies the oil makes a slick on the surface helping you to see your hook bait .
  9. But does the 12ft rod fit into the 10ft case I suggested above ?
  10. Well this would appear to be the obvious choice https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sonik-SK-TEK-Xtractor-10ft-2-Rod-Sleeve-Holdall-Carp-Fishing-Retractable-Rod-Bag-/384152021072?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  11. Gut luck Jordan , how long you there for ?
  12. Ta Kev . sounds like a good way to scare off a fish .
  13. What are we discussing here ? ive always considered’lamping’ to mean giving somebody a good slap ? this lamping is ?
  14. Hi Jordan. is it just a transport problem or a genuine loneliness/confidence thing where you have problems fishing on your own ? if it’s the former then I’m going to recommend doing something that I should have done many years ago and never did . Learn to drive . I know it’s easier said than done . With me it was a confidence thing and one of the biggest regrets of my life was that I never learnt to drive and I hated and still do hate having to rely on my Mrs ( who does drive) to take me anywhere. it’s all very well jumping on public transport with all your gear when you’re a kid but when your 60 like me it’s a no-no. I take it your partner does drive ? just do some major sucking up prior to getting her to drop you off 🤣 If it just that you don’t like fishing on your own , it’s a bit daunting the first time you do it , especially Carping , but you’ll soon gain confidence in your abilities and it’ll be a breeze . I absolutely love my alone time and fishing is a fantastic time to reflect on stuff and if I ever get the feeling that I want a bit of company I’ll just listen to my DAB radio . Quietly of course , especially if I’m missing the mighty Hammers 😂. Good luck son .
  15. Really ? I’ve probably plugged it enough over the years on here but my Ron Thompson suit , the two piece bib & brace /jacket , is probably one of my best ever buys . lovely warm & toastie . Sadly I don’t think they make them anymore but I’ll always always recommend’em .
  16. I knew Nick would be all over that like a rash 😂 personally , and possible safety issues aside , apart from his little ‘telltale’ section of mono , I just don’t see what advantage this set up has over a basic pendant style running lead set up like Moorsey uses in the video I alluded to above . I do like Matt Collins’ videos though , short sharp , too the point and easily understood. only discovered him recently. His lake looks nice too.
  17. That’s the plan Nick . I’ve gone down the Middy route as though it’s not expensive you know it’s quality gear and won’t let us down . I went for the Battlezome whip but same sort of thing 👍🏻
  18. Sleep with the Bream slime ? Lovely jubbly 🤣
  19. I used to sleep out under the stars a lot when I was a nipper (the Boy Scouts , a wonderful institution) in just a sleeping bag on a tarp or groundsheet . The scouts taught me many things from the University of life . One of which is to knock it on the head once your body starts creaking 🤣 I love all my creature comforts when I’m fishing .
  20. Welcome to world of Carp angling . I see that in that 6 months you have progressed through the gears , surface fishing onto the feeder ( which is a great method by the way) and now what you consider the next stage . I agree with Nick , forget Ronnie rigs and whatever May or may not be considered to be fixed lead set ups and keep it simple to begin with . A simple running rig with simple knotless knot rigs and versions there of . Not only is it dead easy but possibly THE most effective way to catch carp . You can always migrate to “complicated” rig and lead set ups later if you must . you may not even want to by then . Google Keith Moors running rig ( it’s on this forum somewhere) and take a gander at Nick’s hooklink s on the sticky above this section . you won’t look back , good luck 👍🏻
  21. I tend to listen to this lot when I need cheering up 😊
  22. don’t mind a bit of prog myself tbh though I just can’t listen to any Genesis post Gabriel/Hackett .
  23. Cheers Blue I’ve just purchased a whip that comes with a free rig and I’ll buy a couple more to be on the safe side , and I’ll heed your advice re the 2 hour thing though he’s just the type to insist on continuing if he’s enjoying . Once he does get into something , anything , that interests him he tends to throw himself 200% into it , he can be like a racehorse with blinkers on and can only see what’s in front of him to the exclusion of anything and everything . The key will be catching . He catches a fish early doors it’ll be difficult to get him away from the bank. Itll be a family outing anyway , my Mrs will be with us to whip (pardon the pun) him away if necessary. She doesn’t mind a bit of fishing herself and has a 14lb PB 🤣 I’ll add to the thread as and when , I really appreciate your help . Whipping looks fun 🤩
  24. Morning fellas , this topic isn’t Carp specific so I’m sure you (Nick) will move it into another section if you feel it’s more appropriate but I get the impression that the coarse fishing section doesn’t get many hits so I’m asking it here initially. My ten year old wants me to take him fishing . As many of you will probably remember he is moderately autistic (as are we all) but has an attention span of about 10 minutes so it’s crucial that I take him to a hole in the ground where I can guarantee he’s going to catch straight away . Thats not a problem it’s already sorted but what isn’t is what kit to buy for him ? my immediate thoughts were to buy him a small whip or some sort of pole . trouble is I’ve never used one myself and wouldn’t have a clue let alone show him how to actually use it so was thinking to throw him in at the deep end with rod & reel . but then which rod & reel ? Length size etc … I dunno what to do tbh .. how would you horrible lot approach it ? Moneys not really a problem except it might prove a 5 minute fad though I’ve a feeling that a tiny perch or roach early on will see him hooked , so to speak. over to you lot ….
  25. I’m far from an expert and , yes , rods is a personal thing , you won’t know till you use em so I’d be looking at a natural upgrade on what you are used to/familiar with . what do you use now ? For reels , no question , go Daiwa unless you’re already a confirmed Shimano lover . 3 Emcast Evo big pits will leave you a £300-£330 budget for some decent rods and I can recommend em .
