  1. is anyone a member or know anything about the place?
  2. I have fished Cromwell for last 2yrs brilliant 5* fishery well kept, cracking fish with a few 40's and lots of 20's and 30's ring the night before you go tho it gets very busy
  3. I have used drennan 12lb double strength with simple knotless knot on many occasions and can't say I can remember it ever letting me down, even with fish upto 34lb in extremely weedy water I will say that if I use mono its the only mono I use for simple carp rigs I have used the 8lb double strength on waters with the average stamp of fish 14-15lb and never had problems with that either
  4. Looks a belting place for a social at a decent price
  5. Have you tried somewhere like anglers paradise I stayed at rookley country park on the I O W few years back in chalet 6 the pond was just the other side of the patio door so was great to do stuff in the day and still do a bit of fishing in the evening, the specimen lake is 1min walk away but that had to be booked I did 3 nights on there but only managed to lose 1 stalking, the misses stayed in the chalet but spent the evenings drinking wine with me Both lakes are small but well looked after and some stunners in specimen lake I enjoyed the week and was able to combine fishing and time with misses Swimming pool and other stuff for your son to do aswell
  6. I will say the few hours sleep helped because when we got to the lake via caen I was raring to go but when travelled through the night and then having to make a 5 hr trip take 10 hrs we was hardly raring to go and all I wanted to do was sleep
  7. don't forget breathalysers high viz jackets and red triangle and all your insurance documents. btw best of luck sleeping on the ferry if you get the same cabin we had
  8. I can say I have been via Calais and via caen, the caen route much shorter to drive but more expensive with over night ferry and in the end its longer because of overnight ferry which takes about 9hrs but gets in about 7ish and its only 2hr ish from there. much cheaper and quicker on the tunnel
  9. Lovely place I'm sure you will enjoy you don't need anything different than what you would over here just maybe some size 2/4 hooks for bigger baits Speak to Ian on FB he will put you right
  10. Try merrington mate we have just done a social on there and 9 of the 12 fish that came out were over 20lb not easy but not too hard either.
  11. It all depends what you want mate, its very busy, heavily stocked and over fished. There are better places, where you from?
  12. i can tell you it takes 21hours in a big red bus
  13. Rushes would ideal but is 4-5h from Calais but only 2.5h from caen
  14. a big red bus is what you need
  15. You could also try Blythe waters or lavender hall days only at Blythe but lavender is 24h
  16. They are both good places for a novice to learn
  17. Fished it about 3years ago had about 50 pasties you used to be able to night fish it but think they stopped it
  18. dont get me wrong mate the chalet and site was fine but the lakes were more like ponds with way to many pegs if you asked me would i stay again, for a relaxing week in the same chalet i had before then yes i would but would only take bit of match tackle for a bit of sport, i did have a look round when i was there and found this place and had a walk round the lakes there was 3 lakes small but bigger than rookely there was a few hauling 3-4lbers on bread of the top nearly went and got my tackle, defiantly not a specimen water but great for your dog mate and peace with fantastic views from lakes and cottages http://www.nettlecombefarm.co.uk/
  19. you do know the specimen lake only has 8 pegs mate and if your not booked on you will stand very little chance of getting on,i went sept 2010 for a week stayed in chalet number 6 which backs on to match lake, chalet was nice match lake was fun on a waggler but no joy on specimen lake there are some nice fish in there mate but very very small lake ie you could cast to any margin from any peg if the tree' allowed,i couldn't over head cast at all from the woods swim but with the amount of water i had a overhead cats wasn't needed bait boats are needed to get under the tree's where i found hooked and lost a fish because i just had to many obstacles to get through my only option was to get in the lake go under the tree line with my rod and swim to a peg to land it,it was 90 degrees at the time and i'd paid £100 for 4 nights so was prepared to do that but lost the fish as i entered the water i think i would have been barred for life if tim seen me do it but i thought f it i ain't coming back and there where no rules saying no stalking any way neil i did enyoy the holiday and so did the wife but i'm sure there is better places you could find,i was even charged £5 for half hours fishing when i went back to the chalet for dinner and chucked my rod in while having a drink with the misses before dinner i even said i give you £25 to fish already and i only fished for half hour his reply was it' still a fiver. i also thought what an arrogant so and so the owner was and thought he was money grabbing to an extreme extent cider in the village up the road was very nice also a country farm shop with some fantastic meats nice place put fishing pools poor even the match lake has about 30 pegs on it and its less than an acre so if you go when its busy forget it
  20. have a word with mrrusheslake (kim) small room next to toilet and anglers room with sky tv and comfy sofa's also if you booked bluecamp swim your misses could shout you easily,no cooking either the food package is nice and plentyfull think the room only cost about just over £100 for a week, but ask kim to be sure
