Finally decided to start my river campaign only about 2yrs late! First night last night, one small carp seen cruising along the far reeds, another bigger fish breached and rolled mid channel and I got a few bream and a nice tench from under the bush to the top right of the shot. I spodded 3kg of hemp and 2kg of pellet just upstream and fished a 7 bait stringer over the top with about 50-60 boilies pulted around it. That was the middle rod sorted, the left hand was fished tight to the far reeds in 5ft of water with just a stringer attached. Right rod fished tight to the near margin on a 4ft shelf as a single, with a few broken boilies and a handful of 1mm & 2mm pellets over it. I was worried I’d over done the baiting/spodding on the middle rod, but it was the only one to have any liners or do any bites. Gonna be a challenge this venue, miles upon miles of wild water, an unknown stock of carp (a few come out along this stretch) plus limited and restricted stretches you can night fish stack the odds against me. I can only go to certain places, the carp can go anywhere they like! 🙄 -

Sorry mate, it’s been about 15-18yrs since I fished it last! It always seemed low stock, but I enjoyed my time there. I popped a YouTube video on this thread somewhere that was filmed there -

Why without the aniseed mate?

Last purchase, 3kg of hemp (now in the pond) 1kg of pellet (ditto) ESP claw hammer hooks, hook swivels and a load of 10mm cork balls

I gave up on my delks because of the same thing, when it rained, they all packed up. I dried them out, sprayed them all over with WD40, wiped off the excess and left them to dry. That solved it after a fashion for a few weeks. went back to Steve neville buzzers… now if I could just work out how to stop them cracking at the base I’d be happy!

Latest purchase, 4.5 and 5oz breakaway leads and plain leads. Some 2/0 hooks, 60lb greased weasel, double slim crimps and some Gemini links time to go after a few bass I think

I use a size 4 curve!

I fish a lake that has a large head of bream, I use 12mm pop ups, when on ronnies, I’ve caught a few, but when using hinged stiff rigs, I’ve never been bothered by them

Hinged stiff rig?

I’ve always used floss as the “hair” on the slip d, then tied the hair stop on with a couple of granny knots then blobbed with a lighter. I then remove that bait and hair stop and discard it, then turn the floss loop so the blob is half way down the loop, then rebait, so the blob ends up in the centre of the boilie, then hair stop as normal. I do this because when I bait up, then give the bait a quick sniff, I can smell the melting/burning smell left from the blobbing process, but by replacing the bait and positioning the blob in the middle of the bait, this is eradicated. Extremely fussy I know! But it makes me feel happier! yet when I lasso and blob a pop up using floss, I can’t do that, and catch perfectly well, so the “blobbing burnt smell” can’t be that off putting… 🙄

Just brought a new Steve Neville buzzer to replace a buzzer with a cracked case, it arrived a few days ago - but didn’t work! I took the back off and saw that one of the contacts hadn’t been soldered! To be fair, the company I brought it off replaced it immediately, no questions asked - it’s a manufacturing fault that they couldn’t foresee so can’t blame them really, my new, er, new alarm should be here tomorrow. why didn’t I just not send the alarm off for a replacement case? Good question! I’ll do that too… £30 to repair. I’ve also got a neville that drains the battery in under an hour, it must be shorting out somewhere, £20 to fix that. Speculate £50 and I’ll have 5 good as new Neville alarms.

I got this new book adrift by Gaz Fareham for Christmas, I’m about 1/2 way through and it’s a very enjoyable read. Anyone else read it?
