  1. Sorry mate just seen your question - I'd go for a clear mono or florocarbon like Krystonite, though I used to use Maxima Camelian which isnt clear but changes from redish to green according to the colour of the water. I'd use that stuff again, no hesitation. With Krystonite you need to use the palomar knot Courtz uses Preston Power line I think?
  2. Supple braid = Richworth 1st contact sorcerer (my all time favourite), extremely supple, camo, takes on water and sinks very well. The dogs..... Coated braid = Suffix Heavy Skin (green or brown), again sinks well, good coating, good to work with. Florocarbon, Korda IQ 25lb - very stiff, steams straight - great for combis, acts like an anti tangle boom. Krystonite line - just good stuff, strong, supple and clear.
  3. My mate uses it all the time for his surface fishing - I know how to set it up if you want some help - one thing to consider is that you really need flat calm conditions to get good presentation.
  4. Yeah mine are the same very blunt and thick wire (small size too) - I can just about manage to hook maggots though without them bursting but its tricky. I still like the idea of them though and would buy another pack if they were improved - I've done OK with them - and couldn't see them ever coming off and being dangerous thats nonsense IMO, god knows they are difficult enough to get open so they aint coming off accidentally
  5. Day ticket waters are good you can nip to one for a few hours and get some good sport - abolishing them is not the answer IMO. Clubs/syndicates are just as bad, it just depends on who fishes them - some of the day ticket waters I've fished have been by far the cleanist! Littering though is a pet hate of mine - my daughter of 4 was disgusted to see rubish all over a swim on a club lake even though the swim had a bin right behind it "why dont they clean up dad"? - to make matters worse the so called angler did well during his session, but even that didnt make him want to show it any respect. Its got to be up to management and fellow anglers to ban those people for a short time, to think of their actions and for us anglers to set a good example. I take an ashtray with me and binbags they are always in my tackle bag - when I leave a swim I always look back to make sure that nobody would know I've been there!
  6. In spite of the views of many on these forums and recent bad press in the comics - I was surprised to see the 360 rig (with long shank nailer)published as the rig of the year in the Richworth Linear annual publication.
  7. I suppose I have to say use lighter hooklinks than your main line, with regards to safety, where you can. I must admit though that I have 25lb Suffix hooklink and Korda IQ in my tackle box, which I use at times, which goes against the above, so no doubt I'll get some stick. A lot depends on your setup.
  8. Not in the slightest do I want to get into deeper discussions. I wish I'd have kept my gob shut I dont intend to use the 360 anymore due to hook concerns (not that I have experienced any damage yet) and bouyancy problems, with the sheer weight of the hook. The withy rig works as do simpler ones, thats my only real point, IMO its hooking properties (firm bottom lip), are better than any simpler version I have used. But there will on occasions be times when the height of the pop-up is simply too much, and alternatives are required. Also its nice to be different on threads coz you always get a bite
  9. Tried and tested both, happy with both if used on right type of water (stock sizes). IMO the Withy Pool rig is the best, I've got total confidence in it coz its saved me from a blank a few times. In a week session my mate and I did on Bluebell a year back, the Withy Pool rig outfished all others, we were the only ones to catch consistently on the whole complex. Use it with boilies or fake corn/maize, its the dogs! I've since tied mine in a combi using a section of stiff IQ to give it further anti eject properties and help the hook push away from the lead. Get on it mate - seriously good. I dont go along with all this why use it over simple pop-up rigs talk. Its good so try it/what you got to loose? Good luck

    360 rig

Thank you Neil - spot on
  11. Sorry mate - never been, but maybe in future. Good luck anyway
  12. Mat Hayes did 2 programs from there, they should be repeated on Sky TV. From memory M1 boilies are fed on mass by the owner, so I'd give them a go with plenty freebies. I also think they did OK on maggots, using a feeder rig. Pretty much each swim has underwater features, so get that marker rod out. Hope this is of some help?
  13. I dont think its the hook thats the problem mate, i've had this happen with several hook types. Its the line aligner which traps water, when left on the rod it doesn't have a chance to drain. Like you say - you need to remove the rig and put it in a rig box to dry.

    Zig Rigs

Just search the forum - theres plenty of descriptions and pictures.
  15. I use them - and like the new versions as well, will be getting some. Never had problems with hooklinks snapping, even with florocarbon and simple overhand loop knots. Maybe your not lubricating the knot enough before tightening, and therefore weakening the hooklink? Only ever had a hooklink break once and that was because the carp bit through 25lb coated braid.
  16. Longshank Nailers, Korda Longshank, Korda Pattern B, Super Specialist Barbel, Richworth Incisor, ESP Raptors. I use all of the above for different rigs etc.
  17. I've been using the Suffix Heavy Skin (25lb) in brown, its great stuff - no complaints.
  18. I just use a pair of pliers to hold the hook, whilst I'm steaming the rig. The rigs come out just as good as it would using a cone, a waste of money IMO I cant explain how I do it in words, but with a couple of attempts you'll get it right.
  19. Sounds like your just making your hook stand out to me, plus as tony said the paint could put them off.
  20. This is the first rig I ever used, never thought I'd hear of it again after nearly 20 years has passed. But now its got a name (silly as it may be).
