not sure what lakes you fish on kev but round here the majority of carp anglers wouldn't know a safe rig if it jumped up and bit them on the nose We obviously fish very different waters mate – I have to say that the young anglers on the lakes I fish are excellent and a credit to the water as are the older members, who gladly help anyone out. my point is tethering known to happen and these products (leaders) are usually to blame, whats wrong with making every effort to avoid them? Even without a leader the mainline is just as able to tether a fish as you well know, as I said before leaders more often than not are the difference between safely landing a fish and not i.e protecting the mainline from abrasion – I would suggest that a lot more trailers would be in waters if leaders were not used. Granted a 15lb mainline is easier to break than a 25lb hooklink, which is why I point out lighter hooklinks. Its also worth pointing out that I would only use short leadcore leaders 1.5 – 2 ft instead of the 6ft+ ones that I have seen used, for safety and concealment reasons. With a few blobs of putty on the mainline above that to pin the line down further. I appreciate what your saying but don’t feel that those who make and test their rigs with safety in mind should be punished with a product ban because of those who need some more guidance. If this was the way to go we would have no sacks, which are very beneficial in the right circumstances, bait boats, keep nets etc etc etc. IMO banning is a cop out from the work of educating. weedy lakes are a nightmare, not the place for any kind of leader really, even if its tied helicopter style. Helicopter style rigs in weed can be the worst types for fish safety, if the lead cant discharge your fish gets well and truly stuck in the weed, the weedclog can also make this setup ineffective, unable to shed the rig. Surely its far better to have a leadclip arrangement so the lead comes free and the fish can be brought to the surface out of harms way. barbless hooks, they may be easier to get rid of but then again i've caught fish trailing barbless rigs on more than one occaision, just how easy are they to get rid of? i can't say....can you? No I cant say how many but its not insignificant to state that last year I had a fish make it to an anchor rope around a floating island which transferred the hook into the snag immediately. I also saw a guy snag a low double on a marginal branch and saw it transfer the hook into the branch. I’m not saying that there aren’t unsafe rigs out there and that fish don’t occasionally fall foul to them, but your painting a picture that this is common place whereas I think its very rare. The only fish I have caught trailing tackle have been on rigs with no leader – yards of thick mono. Overall we wont agree because of your outright banning stance which I cant go along with – but its been fun discussing it. IMO it’s the job of the tackle manufacturer, mag editors, fishery owners, bailiffs and fellow anglers to educate people in how to use products safely! Why should we loose out due to the actions of a small minority – I know that if I didn’t use a leader I would loose more fish through abrasion which equals more chances of tethering and that leaders are perfectly safe if used correctly.

Banning a whole range of products that are not only effective but also lead to more fish being safely landed and not damaged in the process is crazy to say the least. Your also exagerating the amount of fish that pay the ultimate price for unsafe set-ups on 2 counts - far less people fish unsafely than you imagine due to the amount of good literature around today and fish are a lot more able to shed hooks and subsequently rigs than you give them credit for. Your helicopter/tubing setup that you rave to be completely safe is far from it as with all set-ups - nothing is foolproof and can snag through weedclod and tangles and many other scenarios, depending where the line breaks and how it has been set-up. Your helicopter/tubing set-up is very poor in weedy lakes as the lead is unable to discharge.........! But do you make allowances for that - I'll guess not! Going back to my point above barbless hooks and lighter hooklinks will improve the safety of any set-up. Banning products is not the way to go - beginners to the sport and experienced alike now have access to information like never before so there are a hell of a lot of good anglers out there (young and old) who not only put fish safety first on the bank, but also in the thinking behind their set-ups. If you have reason to suspect that someone is using what YOU deem to be a death-rig, speak to them or inform the baillif who can show them better ways. Your thoughts seem very shortsighted and misleading - you could always look at the brilliant improvements in fishing practice, but I guess your glass is half empty?
-
Along with clear and coloured leaders and shock leaders which are no different. Should it all be banned? I think not! I notice your not saying use lighter hooklinks and barbless hooks because that would add no weight to your arguement and be far too simple. This attitude where people get on their soap box to attack things that are in fact fine if used correctly gets right on my ........! Your point is in part valid, however I would prefer education instead of stances to ban products due to the actions of an uninformed minority. Leadcore and any other leader material is perfectly safe in the right hands - so why ban the product??
-
So what do you use instead? As has been said before leadcore takes on silt and blends in very well with the lakebed, other leaders are more visible and probably cost more and tubing sucks IMO
-
Please justify/explain your strange view - why is a little bit stripped off better than more?? Some people strip it off completely! Depends what your trying to achieve THE END AS YOU SAY ! Dont know where your going with this Seems some others dont get your point either as below:
-
Does this mean that you think the same as me? Sorry no - I can only assume that you think there are some kind of set rig rules. No offence intended
-
3 inches - outrageous!! - Oh how the carp will laugh and poke fun at him.

The first hooklink I ever bought was Richworth Sorcerer uncoated supple braid. I've tried all other types since and have recently gone back to it, it sinks very well and is pretty much camo. I have to use it with an anti tangle sleeve for peace of mind. I think the suppleness is one of its best characteristics and is something that you wont get with a different type of product. If what you've got works well dont change unless you have a reason for doing so. Your query 'Does coated braid make a difference' - it can give you more anti eject and tangle properties. I'm pretty much happy for most situations with 2 braids i.e the one mentioned and Suffix Heavy skin (Green or Brown) which again sinks well but also has a good coating - useful for hinged rigs. Stiff and supple floros and mono have thier place as well but you need to know why you are going for them over your usual choice (e.g. winter for their clarity). So what am I saying? - oh yeah - your uncoated braid will probably work anywhere. Its nice to have what you deem to be the best one of each type in your tackle box, you dont need 10-20 different ones, 4-6 good ones that your happy with - oh and some trigger link coz you never know. Just re-noticed the title 'Braid moving on' made me laugh as if its no longer advanced enough - dont worry about what other people say and do unless you have made friends with someone who's extremely good or is a seasoned successful regular who knows something about the water that you dont. Dont be a follower mate change things only when you see a problem and possible solution.

Thats a big stock for such a small lake mate - they must have seen everything before and probably respond to lines in the water and go on a shy one. I'd also say try a balanced snowman with a fairly longish hooklink 12 inch, if they are just lipping the bait, the balanced rig should go further in the mouth. could also try trigger link - I bet they aint come accross that yet!
-
Standard ZIG Rig - ledgered floating bait, fished on either the surface or sub-surface. Variable ZIG Rig - utilises a float, with the difference being that you can alter the hooklink length to searrch out the water layers. Get a book all possible set-ups are covered!
-
I'm looking forward to testing my new trigger rigs beside a standard one to see if those riggy fish get caught out by it, I've got high hopes for it TBH. Its a bit thick and doesnt sink too well so I'm told so weighting it is necessary. You could achieve the same by making a springback boom but this seems easier and more subtle on the eye. Nash stuff cant be that bad - the rods and shelters look good to me and the squid liver baits took waters apart when it came out. How can a company fronted by one of the best all time anglers (with top consultants) be as poor as people make out?
-
No it should sit like a snowman bottom bait resting on the bottom or slightly off it if thats what you want. The pop-up sits on top of the bottom bait. The idea is that it goes to the bottom very slowly resting on any weed or debris, it also flies into the carps mouth if it suck anywhere near it as you have kind of made it weightless. Often your bottom bait will be smaller coz pop-ups are not as bouyant as we would like so you could try a cork ball instead.

Best advice get in your car and travel out of leicester like most of us do lol
-
Yes I believe so though you can buy a season ticket for about 40 odd quid. Other species - no idea Maybe I'm suggesting somewhere totally unsuitable - there are lots of mixed fisheries in Leicester with the chance of fairly decent carp too. I look towards Charnwood as being for the experienced who are geared up towards day sessions, maybe a couple of fish a season if your lucky, get a view from someone who has spent some time on it.
-
Charnwood something theres 2 close to each other on the map, I'm having a senior moment but thought it was the ressy, could be wrong I usually am. Anyway its about 25acres with low stocks to 40+ very challenging, which is why I'm interested. I definately wasn't talking about nanpanton, coz I've never been even remotely interested in going there. Was told its a runs water, though still a chance of decent fish.
-
Charnwood Res for days Nights you could try Beedles or Willesley, join Murphys syndicate or look at the watermead country park lakes.
-
My mate asked an elderly lady if she minded him parking outside her house and she said park on the drive, she didn't mind at all, so for him the car thing aint a problem - just the bridge of doom to contend with! Poorly situated though is the thing that makes his asking price crazy!
-
Trouble is you cant really dismiss it coz it contains lots of twenties (good lookers too some lovely commons), possibly even a thirty. My mates had about 8 20+, and it now contains big cats as well. I'd love to dismiss it but the stock says its still worth a go sometime! Alledgedly you could turn up in the evening do a short overnighter and not see the money taker (coz he's nothing more). Not that I condone that sort of behavior you understand
-
What so you wouldn't pay the 150+ for a season of Navis Joy? Neither would I but I've got a mate who does (mug)!
-
I've gotta agree with Tony on this - just another tiny pond owner spouting rubbish - and they think were stupid enough to believe them! If they cant be honest they get none of my cash.
-
Charnwood Res Loughborough low stocks of carp to 40+ - I've seen photos to prove it Gilmorton Mill Farm - lots of small fish but good numbers of high doubles and twenties.
-
I use a palomar knot for florocarbon, and a Grinner for mono and braid. I dont know either of the ones you've mentioned
-
Maybe one to try to join in the future then, cheers for that.
-
Oh someone told me on here that within the last year it had broke the Leicester Record. Never mind it wouldn't be the first time I got something wrong. Still its got some potential! So is the place worth the money? Good luck!
-
You could try getting on Saddington through John at All Seasons Angling its done a 50 quite recently - TBO though I dont fancy your chances much, very small syndicate clicky! Also Murphys is looking for new members so I understand.
