Same here. Always got a selection of Cup a Soups in the workshop unit. Not absolutely essential, fortunately. My son and I are based in Digbeth, Birmingham, where all sorts of food outlets abound. My waistline bears testimony to this...……..

    Yes mate.
I started taking my own powders to my maggot supplier to use instead of the maize/dust they offer. I tried liver powder, GLM, and various grounbaits.
I found that nothing was more effective than un-touched maggots. In fact I actually started asking for my maggots un-cleaned, straight from the trays (my supplier is a maggot farm). The dirtier and stinkier the better imo.
The article says "as soon as they start sweating, they start getting Ammonia all over them. The fish just veer off them because that Ammonia is a really bad chemical, they really don’t like it".
That is a load of tosh imo. Maggots secrete various substances/chemicals including ammonia as part of their natural processes, this imo is part of what makes them so attractive to carp. No processed food/bait can match these natural processes in terms of attraction imo. All those substances/chemicals (which I'm pretty sure are stuffed full of AA's), together with the tiny electrical signals given off by live maggots, are what make them so unbeatable in terms of bait.
I do not believe maggots can be made more attractive by adding anything.

Exactly,  no different to a bucket of hemp. A lot of individual food items but can be polished off in minutes by a group of hungry carp.

It's a lot of food items for sure but in terms of weight is next to nowt. A small group of big carp will hoover that up in no time.

hi Andrew welcome to the forum
one word of advice if I may if I was you when returning the fish to the water id use the weigh sling or landing net because carrying it up in the air in your hands if that fish becomes lively its going to end up on those rocks/pebbles and that will be  one hurt fish please don't take offence by my comments just a little friendly advice my friend again welcome

    Always nice to introduce yourself...

    Welcome to Carp.com.
You may find you got a better reaction if you had introduced yourself and given a brief explanation of your fishing experience.
As Yonny pointed out, go back to basics. Look for the fish, do your thing, be your own angler. I would imagine you can fish two rods, on a new water one rod would be a hi-attract bait, probably the ever-present pineapple pop-up, but I would be changing bait regularly, casting around looking for fish. The other I would be fishing over a small amount of bait, maybe some really dry groundbait, with a couple of free whole or chopped boilies in a PVA bag.
On a day session unless I knew the water responded ok, I would NOT be leading around. Too many casts may possibly spook the fish.
Next thing, don't fire off at other users, you have a tendency to get ignored, or draw my attention, which could be worse...
Yonny gave genuine advice. I simply would not turn up at a new water without knowing something about it. Yes, asking on the internet is great, but nothing beats going around it first and having a look, you can learn loads. The dreaded Facebook can be useful, look at the fishery if they have a FB page, look at the fishery website.
Also, you could ask me (or any other anglers) about a water they are fishing, sorry, on one water in particular, I will not give anything away, my hard work is not for sharing until I know you are putting effort in yourself.

Well after my last post entitled brolly blowout, I returned to zombie sheep lake, on my guard for any unnatural shenanigans.
I had done a quick session last week which accounted for a mid double and a hook pull, so I was rather happy to get a last minute chance to get the rods out. A quick hour rolling boilies, and I was on the road.
of course the lakes curse was already at work and a call from she who must be obeyed had me driving away from the lake and to a pharmacy for supplies, then a 10 mile detour to my fiancee's house to carry out my duties as a paramedic. (Its not like eyes are even that important...)
several hours later, I am again heading to the lake, arriving at lunchtime. Not bad seeing as I left the house at 8am and its a 40min drive!
On arriving I find the gate blocked by a boy racer and his profusely vomiting girlfriend, so after offering my services, which are declined, I await the boy racer to move out of the way so I can enter the car park. He soon disappears in a cloud of exhaust and dubstep screaming around the bends, no wonder the poor girl was sick!
There was a cold North westerly blowing with quite a chop on the exposed water, so I chose a swim off the back of the wind so I don't lose a 3rd bivvy here, having just replaced the blown out brolly with a 60" oval and storm sides, the missus was right, those extra inches do make a difference...
The rods set up, I find one of my Neville alarms has unexplainedly packed up, (yet worked fine again at home) so out with the delks and in with the rods. Set up with the same on all 3 rods, korda leadcore in gravel shade, fished helicopter style with helisafe beads and 3 1/2oz leads, Hooklinks being 25lb esp loaded in brown, about 10" in length to size 4 wide gapes fished blowback style with small shrink tube kickers. Single bottom baits on long hairs finished the set up. The left hand rod fished in the margins over 50-60 baits, with a small stringer to keep the rigs tangle free. The middle and right rods were fished to a silt bowl about 60yrds out over a couple of hundred baits.
Brolly up, bed out, brew made, I sit back and enjoy the sun with another book (ted Bundy - interesting story, disturbed man!) When the left hand rod rattles off, a long and protracted fight soon results in a nice common in the net weighing in at 25lb 12oz

    25lb 12oz.
The night soon closed in and with it came the rain, so I got all settled in the dossbag and got some sleep. At 8am, I was woken by the sun shining straight in my eyes, I wake to find everything frozen and white with frost. Just as I am considering recasting the rods, and deciding it's far too cold, the middle rod pulls up tight and the bobbin just holds there, not coming out of the clip. On striking, I'm flat rodded at 60yrds then the carp comes in like a baby after that. Slipping the net under a good common weighing 22lb 12oz, proper winter carp.

    22lb 12oz.
At this point, I feel I've got away quite lightly with the zombie sheep curse so wrap it up and call it a day...
To find the gate blocked by another car on the way out, after all, nothing like waiting an hour for a dog walker to come back and let me out...

No idea but they're pleasure lakes so I'd guess you could put pretty much any half decent bait on a half decent rig in front of active fish and you'll catch. The tricky bit will be locating said fish as the water temps are defo dropping.
I see posts like this a lot and I struggle to understand the intent. For me, the act of fishing consists of trying to figure out how to catch the carp in front of you. If you're told how to do that then you've literally avoided the point of our great sport imo. I cannot understand how anyone could feel a sense of satisfaction or achievement from being told to put this bait, on that rig, on this spot, to catch a fish. Carp are not as smart as they're made out to be, use your eyes and they will tell you where they are. Nine times out of ten a bait you are confident in, presented well, will catch them. If it doesn't you need to use the old noggin to figure out why and react accordingly. That's the fun bit, trying to figure it all out. Get rid of that and there is no challenge, what's the point.
I'm not having a dig buddy so please don't be offended by my comments. Get down there an figure it out, that's what fishing is. That's how you learn and improve as an angler. What you learn can be applied to other waters. You'll not learn anything by having guys on forums tell you what works on a given water.
    Good luck fella.
