Trad day today... well nearly every days a trad day now... just lost one off a big drop back, probably a Bream... bit of a stuttery movement on the bobbin, but I'm out and freezing in a north easterly..., got the wind off my back so its not too bad, no carp out this morning but plenty of Bream... giving the new banksticks, buzzbars and bobbins a run out... Rods are Sharpes 9'3" and the reels are Leszek Delag fettled Mordex Merlin centerpins...3 points

One is an impregnated rod t'other isn't, the darker rod is how a sharpe should look with the screw down reel fitting, I had the pale rods's reel fitting removed as it had seized up. In not too precious about matching everything, that ship sailed long ago... life's too short to worry about that sort of thing any more...ππ2 points

You probably need to reduce the file size if it's an original pic1 point -

Yeah there was an otter on there when I was there over 10 years ago. it dragged the big common up into the reeds beside my swim , was awful to see and really wanted that one in my album, I did catch the big mirror though, such a long linear and one of my favourite carp ever. It was 30 lb when I caught so god knows how big it is now Thanks for the info guys.1 point -
Minimising to Essentials

What irritates me is that the mk.2 or 3 is frequently not as good as the mk.1, or is having to fix the faults of the mk.1 as in alarms. I had the original Fox Easydome, good bivvy, up in a couple of minutes. I even got a mk.2, nice, (thanks RichardF), it actually came with an improvement of an additional rib to push the porch out instead of a couple of clip-on bars as per the mk.1 and the skull cap had better coverage because of that. Then the mk.3 was awful, they extended the inner dome backwards instead of to the front. The mk.1 was my goto bivvy on Taverham in the 1990's until it was stolen. The mk.2 was my goto bivvy around 2007 or 2008 for another few years until I split up with Liz and lost it somewhere between housemoves.1 point -

Nick has no idea what is happening to it now. I lost interest after seeing 6 otters playing around and had numbers of the fish. It's one of those places, I fished it, caught fish, not really interested in going back.1 point -
Catapults ...
Roughtor reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
I see more animals hit with crossbow bolts than I do with a catapult! Saying that I used to see a pest control officer using a Barnet Diablo or Black Widow for rats, and at one time they were a carp anglers best boilie pult. I really don't understand the logic of some people, those who are trying to ban a legitimate use of a catapult for groundbait or boilies, or those who aim for animals. As a kid I made longbows, catapults and other arrow launchers, and I am positive that not all were used legitimately, kids play fights, pigeons or rats as targets or the occasional school window... As for the police, if I misbehaved, I'd get a clip round the ear from whoever caught me, and if I was stupid enough to tell my mother, another when I told her, or if I was caught by the village Bobby, no matter how fast I ran or cycled, how many shortcuts I took, he was stood at the door talking to my mother when I got home. We have lost education, from one or two misbehaving children in a year group to one or two well behaved children in the year group.1 point -

Hello Kirky . The last time I looked ,probably last year ? , there was a sign on the gate " Bosmere Angling Club ,Needham Market 721487 " . I believe the chap who runs the water is Robert Markwell . If Nick reads this post he will know if I'm correct . π1 point -
For me it's everything, not only weight but speed of set up ,drying off kit at home ,carrying it in my now much smaller car ,I have to know where it all is ,so I can just add bait ,bit of food ...and bye bye wife til tomorrow... Here's a pic of myself fishing a mega water ,just tarping it under a 58 pattern poncho tarp ,which make great barrow covers n all ,walked over a mile ,over big stone walls etc1 point

CARP: Short Session Success - Julian Cundiff
Whitstable Jack reacted to hnv for a topic
I thought that this book was a little expensive for what it is - a small format paperback at Β£15.99. It is a relatively new title published in 2010, so I suppose is priced at the 'going rate' for such a book, and is a great little book to take on the bank with you. As the title suggests, this book is all about maximising you time available and using that time in the most efficient way possible once on the bank. Although very much an instructional book, it is not a "this is how to cast a spod" type of book. The tips and instructions assume a certain level of carp angling ability and therefore it cannot be described as a beginner's guide. In addition to the tips on how to actually fish effectively on short sessions, there is a lot of information on organising your home and work life to allow the most productive fishing sessions to take place. It is quite refreshing to read about this sort of thing as it rarely gets a mention in most carp angling books or articles. There is some great advice on buying the most suitable tackle for short sessions and on being prepared for every eventuality that you may encounter on the bank. On the whole, a good read and a must for anybody who fishes short sessions whilst juggling a full home and work life. Recommended - especially for those into mid-week overnighters before work.1 point -
I used to fish Linear maybe 16 years ago, it would be a long drive from west yorks, last time we went we rang a day before and told plenty of room, rang on the morning still told plenty of room so drove down only to find it rammed out, anglers sat waiting for people to pack up, never been back since0 points
