Welcome to Carp.com, and to winter fishing. I've got the same problem in not catching. You've picked the hardest time of the year to be fishing for carp. Choose your water, make sure you fish a lake that has fish in it, has winter form, and easy to find fish. On both of those, there is absolutely no point in fishing the wrong place, a lake with no fish in it, or a swim where the carp are not present. Fishing in winter is hard at the best of times, don't overbait; you don't want to be putting much bait in, and most pellets, and some groundbaits are too oily to attract in winter. Boilies are not the best bait, at any time, but in winter you will only need a few to last a whole day, quite literally your hookbait plus 1! Low oil pellets, Sweetcorn, worms or maggots may be a better bait. The best carp or any fish catcher equipment you have available is your eyes, look for the fish; tiny shows, rolls, fins breaking surface or even bubbles or flat spots in the waves. Don't think that a 3oz lead cast out on a carp rod is the only method to catch carp. A basic float rod setup feeding a few maggots or pellets every few minutes around the float, or a feeder/ledger rod casting a small feeder or plain lead with maggots or worm on the hook.3 points -

Having same problem as you. Pretty sure my session to catch ratio was the best on my syndicate last year I certainly had the biggest hit of fish in one session and funny thing is for me it makes it even more depressing when you done so well and you say right Iβm gonna keep this up right through the winter but then your slapped in the face with blank after blank month after month. It was easier on the mind before when I caught nothing whatever the weatherπ€£. good for you to look forward to what I think is the best time of the year, spring! In my opinion the fish seem to be a little easier to trip up. And also there are many people on this chat room who have reached out and helped me just like the 2 people who have already commented before me. Itβs priceless from these lot Iβm telling you. Hold tight for a bit longer it all changes soon2 points -
What's your plans for the new year?

I doubt I am the only one that has already started planning for the year ahead? Next couple of Months head down trying to work hard and save up a bit of spare dosh, get new syndicate ticket and a few odds and sods π then about march crack on for the year with a new challenge and a fresh start, this year has been a real steep learning curve for me, the highs and lows were good lessons to learn, I learnt I haven't got time for a real serious tough challenge and want to go fishing thinking I have a chance, I know I will mainly only be doing overnighters that seems the way for me, I want to go to catch fish not just one particular fish, so will be planning and baiting accordingly, working it out as I go, I am happy with my bait choice now you will be pleased to know so no more dicking about with that π Targets 30lb +carp, and some nice shots and hopefully a good few for the photo album, but really I just want to enjoy it, to be able to relax and do it my way, take in the atmosphere, and be at peace with my surroundings βοΈπ Lose some timber (mainly for happiness and mental wellbeing, not cos I feel Inadequate without a 6 pack ) π Take the girls more, and try to maintain a healthy work/family/fishing balance Also I want to become more accurate at longer ranges, and also better at the other stuff and not worrying about rigs and bait I am pretty sure they work now it's more location, tactics, accuracy and opportunity, What are you guys planning for the new year?1 point -

This one? https://www.ashmire.co.uk/ Works for me. Only 90 mins away! Mind you there's not been many replies lately - was it something I said? lol1 point -
I'm 1 for taking him on every session... This was his 1st session with me... Then just grew from there... I take all of the above mentioned, his chilled as anything when we're out, just loves being on the bed, being stroked, doesn't bark at anything. As long as he's chilled and bot bothering anyone, I think he will be fine, while the rods are out and weather is OK, I play with him, pulls on a rope or chew a branch.1 point

Daiwa Rods
rachb reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
Believe it or not, 3lb TC rods should be hitting around 150metres, although it is very much technique. For years I was fishing 2.75lb TC Century SP's at ranges from the margins to 130metres, and now I'm using 3.25lb TC tods from margins to 160metres. One set of rods. Any rod, since the advent of carbon in rods, you want around a lead or total casting weight close to 1/2oz above the Test Curve rating in pounds. So a 2.5lb TC rod, 3oz is about right, 3lb, 3.5oz and so on. Stiffer rods are strictly for casting, definitely not fish playing.1 point -
