Tips for testing pva in water
snowmanstevo and 2 others reacted to B B for a topic
Tip 1 You must use only cold water as to replicate the water temperature of the lake at this time of year, so you must, and I can’t emphasise this to much BE very quick in testing pva solid bags in the bath as you will freeze your 🥶 🌰 🌰 Tip 2 When testing pva bags in the bath I recommend the use of barbless hooks … just in case for the obvious reasons 😏 Tip 3 The use of oils when testing pva bags in the bath is also strongly NOT recommended as in a blink of an eye you could be impaled on one of the taps … or if unlucky both taps 🤔 Heres a pic of a bag in a kitchen bowl with 2 and 4mm pellets and a bit of ground bait with a small wafter with half a syringe of sticky baits cloudy krill liquid3 points -
PAC Announcement about summer pike fishing
B B reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
Statement from PAC General Secretary, **** Culpin: THE PIKE ANGLERS CLUB AND THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY STANCE ON WARM WATER PIKING IN THE NORFOLK BROADS After many years of lobbying by the PAC we at last have the support of the Environment Agency in relation to preventing pike fishing in warm water conditions. Attempts to introduce a Bye Law prohibiting such fishing have not yet materialised but a campaign to draw the attention of anglers to the real danger to pike when caught in warm water conditions is being launched in the Norfolk Broads and hopefully elsewhere. This will include posters that will be distributed throughout East Anglia in tackle shops, boatyards and in public places. Fact sheets are also being made available to anglers and the general public alike. None of this would have been possible without the tenacity and determination of the former PAC General Secretary John Currie and the input of the Norwich and District Pike Club and we should all be grateful that their efforts have resulted in this positive development. We hope that with the endorsement of the Environmental Agency anglers will take a responsible and sensible approach to fishing for pike in unsuitable water conditions. The reality is that many pike that are caught in warm water suffer and die as a result and we at the Pike Anglers Club will, with the support of other organisations, always look to welfare of the pike as a priority. We are grateful to the Environment Agency for their support on this very important issue. **** Culpin General Secretary of the Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain1 point -

When Rob Hughes dives down to check on rigs for filming, he gets close and then looks for the leadcore or tubing to see where the rig is. I use Korda Safezone leaders and think it's £6 well spent. I also pinched an idea from Martin Bowler and use some lead olivettes on rubber caps that pins the extra metre above the leader for good measure as well.1 point -

I agree with that, a mate of a mate purchased 100 bags off the Bay, when he was in my swim we compared our bags in the shallow water and his literary exploded on contact with the water, he was gob smacked, I suggested bin them or double bag and dip them in a bit of oil…but Iv been using them all year he says 🙄1 point -

I used to do that to test my PVA as well, mesh, bags and string. I also test them in the margins in both summer and winter. Not all PVA is the same, there are some good brands, some 'ok' brands and some that just stick them in a hot wash in the machine and they still won't dissolve... I stick to particular brands of PVA wherever possible because I have tested them. Kryston bags and string, definitely good, along with mesh by Gardner and ESP. However after an incident with Nash PVA bags 10+ years ago that did go through a 40⁰ wash without dissolving, I won't touch that brand. We also have the joys of direct Internet sales, so if you use a supplier on ebay, check and test it, and I would recommend, even if you use the same seller, test every purchase. I know some batches will come from different manufacturers, look and feel the same, but taste different and have different dissolve times.1 point -
A Blank but what was learnt 😱

You haven't fished a water full of natural food where you have to wean them off it and onto your bait then. Sometimes the only way to do this is pile in the small stuff with boilies mixed in, and hope they will take the boilies.1 point -

Can you have too much bait??
snowmanstevo reacted to ouchthathurt for a topic
I’ve been using the same base mixes and additives for the last 15yrs and the same basemix with different additives since 1997. The flavours haven’t changed much in that time either, started with rod Hutchinson mixed herbs flavour, then richworth blue cheese, then richworth ham (boiled?) then smoked ham flavour from nutrabaits. They work, I’ve massive confidence in my mix, so I don’t see a need to change1 point -

It's OK seeing that it's pretty much all the same. It's when I see pots of this and that, bags of this and that from every known bait company, that's when in my opinion its too much. Just stick to one bait, maybe a few different colours of hookbait but that's it.1 point
