  1. Haven't been on much recently as been busy at work and the weather has seen me off the bank for the last couple of months. Just wanted to wish everybody on here a happy Crimble, and all the best for 2020. 🍺

  4. I've got one lake 30mins away, the other is 45mins and yet I drive for 90mins to go to the coast. And I do enjoy it, much more than I do carp fishing at the moment. And I've had bigger buzzes and satisfaction from catching new species of sea fish, some the size of the palm of my hand and proper buzzing about than a 30 or 40lb carp. My target is a double figure smoothie for sure this year.

  6. Cheers for that, but I'm already a member of that forum. I fish the south coast beaches. Mainly hayling island but I do venture to hurst castle, Milford on sea, hordle cliffs, highcliff and occasionally climping.

  10. I know what you mean about the smooth hound they are amazing fish they fight like no fresh water fish, my pb is 10lb and I still think about now, my best mates is 16lb and I've never seen a fight like it before or since, for there weight the are unreal. Unfortunately I don't go sea fishing anymore, enjoy it mate I used to love my sea fishing but it got a bit to much with the travelling for me.🎣🙂👍

    Float rod setup

A barbel rod should do the trick. They make great floater rods too.

    Float rod setup

A standard float/match rod is not designed to take 8lb line generally 2-4lb , some commercial carp or Tench type rods are fine with 4-6lb .You need to match the line with the rod to stronger line and you risk overloading the and breaking it ! If the carp are averaging 20lb then why not use a carp rod but just fish a float and why only a size 10 hook ? A waggler is usually fished with the line running through the small eye on the base of the float either locked in place with a shot either side or float stops either side these are easier to adjust the depth or if fishing deep water as you can allow the float to run up to the top stop allowing you to bring it through the rod rings on retrieval. If the water is snag free then using mainline straight through is fine but if your near snags then it may be worth upping the breaking strain but use a lighter hooklength that way if you get snagged the hook length will break . As for hook size what bait are you going to use and how are you attaching the bait ?
