    Thought of the Day pt.2

It's geared around sealing & protecting natural products , while keeping that natural look, so even though I have never used it on a rod it will be perfect for the job . I have used it on cork though & It looked spot on just brought out the natural colour. Also won't tarnish your hands with any unwanted varnish smells which could end up on your bait .

I personally like my cork handled rods to take on a natural patina , they darken over time which I like. If you are looking to seal & protect them though, have a look at clear osmo oil. Not the cheapest of products mind but very good & will keep a natural look for the cork .

    Thought of the Day pt.2

I only fish two myself, my club waters are two rod rule and when I go to day ticket waters I only fish with two even if I can use more. 👍 I did buy a 3 rod rod license but never used the 3 yet, I think I'll go back to my 2 rod licence this year. But everyone to their own I suppose it's what you get used to, I've always fished two on the odd occasion that have used three in the past I've bought the extra day rod licence. 👍

    Thought of the Day pt.2

I used to feel that way until I joined a 2 Rod venue. Now only fish 2 wherever, makes me think more about the swim, etc., less disturbance on the water, etc.

  6. Alright all, First thing I saw here is the blog/diary area. Thought it would be a good idea to start the Journey before I even land in the UK in a few months time. That way, you lucky lot can follow my carp fishing journey from the very beginning. I haven't had any series sessions for 8 years, although the odd line has been in here and there, producing nothing of note. I'm very much excited to get back to the UK carp scene and looking forward to spending a good few hours on the bank with my brother again. My previous carping history has generally been on harder and larger waters. Something I naturally prefer, but this year I'm going to make sure I'm getting bends in the rod. Of course I have already eyed up a few larger looking venues to get me excited for a bigger campaign, but these year has to have realistic targets. My current PB stands at 28lb 12oz, a mirror coming out of Cromwell Lakes, and I'm honestly not too focused on getting over that by the end of the year - of course, if it comes I'll take the bonus! My realistic targets for this year are going to be: 20lb Leather 23lb Common 25lb Mirror I think these are at least somewhat realistic for the 9 months of fishing I'll have available until the end of the year (I wish that was a solid 9 months too). If I get to achieve these goals I'll put a shout out later in the year and push to take on a challenge from the diary readers here. If anyone has advice or suggestions along the way then let me know. As for now, job 1 is becoming a tackle tart again. Watch this space to see what I can get together. TL Jim

    Winter flavours

I found Cinnamon Oil with Peach Nutrafruit was one of my best summer and winter combinations.

    Specialized hookbaits

Yeah, they're pricey but they're worth it. It's not the rolling that costs. It's the curing process. He might as well have. It's a mental process they go through. I've used: S2 - As an all-rounder this is probs one of the best hookbaits money can buy. Works all year. F1 - Brilliant in winter/early spring. A bit different to anything else you've tried. GLMF - Awesome dark spicy hookbaits. Best used over bait I've found. I've used the cork balls and the crushed cork options. Both awesome but I prefer the crushed cork - more versatile. They're not the kind of hookbaits you use on overstocked puddles/commercial lakes, it would cost you a fortune. For tricky lakes when you need something that little bit special to compete, these are the nuts. I completely understand those that aint prepared to pay that kind of money, it's fair play. I've caught a lot of big fish on these which justifies it for me.
