Thanks. I will keep this in my little book of handy ideas. Les

Put this in your memory, when you need to replace the line, take off around 300metres (80 odd wraps at 3.66m or 12ft, its actually just under at 292metres) and spool new line on top of it.
-
Good idea, never thought of that and it’s so simple.

I just fill my spools with something cheap like a 100m spool in the same bs as the stuff I want to use and then just fill up with the other line. as long as it comes on 100m spools I don’t care it never gets replaced. usually get 3 spools filled out of a bulk spool then. i would get bored counting turns and probably loose count anyway..

I’ve just done both reels with 1000m Korda 15lb and got a bit left over. I used the uni knot on bot my reels. I was surprised how easy the knot was to make.

The 'through the middle' elasticated ones, I used to cut the elastic out and either use in-line or attach a quick link to. Have fun, it's a good method (sic) for carp, bream and even roach in carp waters.

Well, I've had a forage through the far reaches of the shed and found several old method feeders. I'd even got a couple of the large, elasticated ones but they're in the bin as potentially hazardous in the case of a break-off. Favourite among the rest are some quite large, three-vaned ones by Korda which I intend to use. I'll report back with results, if any. Ian.

I’ve got the shallow as well as the deep spools. Just weighed the both and the deep comes in with line at 7oz and the shallow with line 5oz… I was a bit bored 😁

Thanks for the calculator I’ve had a look at the calculator which works out at 421m per spool. I could get both of my spools filled with the 1000m spool. Les

I put some backing on my 8ks, I worked it out so I could split a Gardner spool of line 3 ways. And just bought some cheap line off amazon. You can use a calculator like this one to help ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://www.pattayafishing.net/advanced-fishing-reel-line-capacity-estimator/

Thanks for that. I must admit, when looking at that knot I thought it looked a bit bulky. The Okuma has a line capacity of 0.35/ 550. My line is 0.40 spool size 1000m. Which I suspect means I will either need to use some backing or buy another spool. Les

First time with new reels is fun... The first time I put line on new reels (or spools) is to see what they take in terms of amount (say 15lb 0.35 380metres) and fill them with 15lb line, I do a uni knot loop, put it on the reels, pull tight and wind line on. If the line spool contains 1000m then the last bit is left on the spool. If the 3rd reel needs line I use a brand new line spool, so first time you might end up buying 2 spools of line.

I have finally got my new Okuma 8k reels, I have now to fill them with line. What is the best way to start it off, is it knot the line or using a knot. If the latter what knot would you use? Les

Kev's a legend, best videos and music by far - so funny although he's made me cringe a few time with his tightness, loaded but begging meals lol We've got Dintons being stocked in my current syndi and in the previous one they have almost reached 60lb - one particular batch of 8 have all gone 50+ great fish! There's another guy who's taken UK fish abroad, France and Italy pretty mad really and US fish Dale Hollow being bred here 😎👍
-
If I'm not mistaken, That bloke who owns the lake in France is mates with the bloke I referred to who breeds the Leney's over here. And yes seen a couple of videos of Kev fishing there. I think I've watched all of his videos now on YouTube and in my opinion he's never done a bad one. He has me in stitches a lot of the time. I liked his ones from back in the day, especially the Harrow waltonians ones, its the only ticket that i've got a lake for. As for some of the UK strains being saved , the Harrow fish have been bred by VS fisheries and kev does a video with Simon Scott. My old lake has dinton fish, Harrow fish, priory fish and obviously some original Leney's, a proper mix. Wish I'd kept that ticket as well now incase I got back in to carp fishing.

How's the fishing at dandys ford fishery is sweet form and luncheon meat good

Someone has original leeney blood line in France, is doing some mixes and keeping some pure, Kev's fished there, think it was the first official trip (Fennsmere) or similar. There is a few in the UK still producing leeneys, and some of the cool UK strains have been saved, shame the Bluebell originals weren't done they were mega.

Pretty sure that is the fella. He grows them on in a pond in his back garden. Think he lives in Worthing or that way.
-
If the leney carp website is the one he’s got some good provenance there.
-
Technically…. they can’t be leneys as he’s been dead for donkeys years only called leneys because of Donald lol Leneycarp.com

I just use my tripod really low to the ground and set the timer for a few seconds so I can quickly crouch in with the fish without rushing.

I've just remembered this. I saw a YouTube video done by Kevin Ellis and he was chatting with a fella who breeds Leney's. If I remember rightly they are true Leney's at that so the blood line still continues. The YouTube channel is "Carp antics tv with Kevin ellis" if anyone is interested and I'm sure if you searched Kevin ellis Leney's on YouTube it will come up.
