I agree the second hand market is a nightmare mate. As soon as COVID stopped those ships leaving China the used gear prices went through the roof MASSIVELY. That's not just fishing gear either. It's cars, bikes.... you name it.

I bought a used mountain bike for £1000 back in 2018. I sold it for £1800 when the prices shot up in 2020. Work that one out.

My mate sold a Fox Easy Mat, 2 years old, for 30 quid more than he paid for it new.

Obviously we're coming out of COVID but the market is just not recovering. It's Madness.

i'm half tempted to sell the motor i bought two years back, i could easily double my money, i checked we buy any car for a looky look i can get 2k more than i paid for it. only prob i would need a replacement.

Is it my imagination but has the cost of Carp fishing gone through the roof recently ?

Ive had a 6/7 year sabbatical from the game , as some of you know , and I went round to my parents old place where my brother still lives at the weekend to get the majority of my Carping gear which he’s been storing for me .

To my disgust , some of it has gone walkies , Nephews and the like  who have ‘ borrowed’ bits and pieces and never returned em .

For example my very nice Cyprinus cradle has gone missing and in its place a tatty looking old Nash Hooligan unhooking May has just appeared in its place … and that’s not the only thing .

So you fellas can expect a series of “which ?” Threads from myself in the next few weeks as I try to replace stuff that has gone for a hike.

Now , my decision to go from a 2 to 3 rod set up means having to shell out for extra stuff anyway but the prices are ridiculous are they not ?

I have admittedly picked up a couple of bargains recently on eBay , some Free Spirit rods and a 3rd Fox Alarm .

But Bank Sticks for example . I need 6 .

    Circa £20 a pop ffs ?

My JRC sti 2 man . As much as I love it it’s too damned heavy for me to lug around these days and my arthritic hands have all sorts of trouble setting it up as anyone who’s owned one can probably imagine , SO I’m on the lookout for a Brolly system .

Have you SEEN the price of a half decent one these days after buying the other ( usually pretty necessary) bits to go with it ? £400 upwards maybe ?

Im on the lookout for another Daiwa reel to go with my other two . They’ve been discontinued now but still crop up on the auction sites now and again and £50+ opening bids don’t even reach their reserve .

I didn’t pay that for em knew ffs 🤦🏼‍♂️

    ONE Stow indicator , second hand , £20+ ….

Am I over reacting having been away for a while or are tackle firms taking the pee ?

Bivvy prices are sort of fair depending on what you get, tents are around the same money and the speck is light and flimsy as that's what is best, if you beefed one up with thick material and solid bars the price would be very high. it's the end tackle as well 20 notes yesterday on links and swivels buffer beads that kind of stuff, at least when my ticket starts i won't be needing to buy any bits for the rest of the year.

The emcast 25a is a nice reel you can turn them into a quick drag if you like, i have never felt the need though.  same for the new mini microns good solid alarm.

Just been on to em... Sounds like a corroded wire after they replaced the fuel tank, BUT I told em I ain't paying a penny while still under 5yr warranty and 6month dealership guarantee...

They also said its alarming how many times we've been back.... So I've got the motor ombudsman involved now, filed a case against the after care/sale of a vehicle.

a dodgy wire will bring all the lights on, i had everything go out on a fiesta when driving just cut out, put the puter on it and it started, dodgy earth wire.

Not sounding rude.... But I will be smashing something soon.... CAR

wife was on way home from work yesterday (on motorway)... Then the dash board lit up... Service Warning, ABS Warning, DSC Warning, Tyre Warning, Pressure Warning.... Im no mechanic but I know what they all mean and to me its not good.

Not impressed as it only a 3yr old car, 2 weeks ago had a new fuel tank and fuel system, front splitter fell off 2 days after buying (in December)...

Wife drove it straight back to Peugeot and I met her there....

I got the car key off her, showed the Manager the warnings, give it to the manager and BLUNTY said FIX IT.... We've been back about 6/7 times since December with it.... They hace until end of the day today I've told em or the Motor Ombudsman will be getting involved (not for the 1st time either).

modern cars, could just be the computer needs a diagnostics check and cancelling the warning lights if no obvious fault happened when they lite up, still a pain, sounds like a simple reset if they all came on, if you can get it done by a call out guy or buy your own machine you can get them quite cheap these days, you will know for sure if there is a fault, the dealer could just cancel the warning lights and ignore the fault.

  4. no such thing as no fishing on public acces waters, those friends of the park groups can make the suggestion can even put signs up, but you can fish it with a EA rod licence. they tried to end angling on the swanswell in cov, i burned a local councillor on FB he was gutted powerless fool.

  5. Tell ya i'm like that woman who can never make her mind up in Open all Hours, stopped at a shop today to grab a mini swinger they were doing a  cheaper price than online, had a look at a pile of boxed bivvies they had all two man prologics, so i had a rummage through the boxes, only went and found a prologic avenger for less than 170 on sale, needles to say i buried it under a load of boxes and will call back tomozz, if that is gone i will get the used sonik two rib for 100 used once, if that is a no go i will get the advants for 150, just hope the prologic is there in the morning, that's a nice bivvy with the skull wrap just what i wanted but not willing to go above 200 notes, for anything other than a pioneer, spanking new trakker 100 brolly in litchfield for 200 still got all the tags on.

  6. Bags lol i got two tfg barrow bags been trying to shift on gumtree before i get the side bags, had no takers yet, think i will just use the smaller one and sack the side bags for now, not bothered with any of the pals they sometimes come up on the tree, found a nice bivvy that's local could save me a nifty 50, if i lived down south, there is a near spanking new aqua pioneer 100 with a few extras for 300, very tempted to just spend up and get it delivered.

  7. just getting a bait order sorted, going to hold off rolling the JB for now and just get out for next week hopefully, was going to give the mad cow a go but Whacker stop doing them in feb, so i'm going for their peach and pepper in the 5 k deal 2 k pellets and a liquid plus pop ups , also get some matching P&P wafters they are doing them in a cork dust said to be a proper wafter and  a litre of their beta stim liquid.

other than that i have some JB kit the bio fish and plum his tm1 and the cream, that's more for the summer though i plan on doing my own by then.

Probably as good a place as anywhere, if you have to send off your energy readings, best to make sure you do one at the end of the month so it doesn't get charged at the new massively increased rate, Martin Lewis was saying that just thought I would share it with you cos its going to get tougher after April 😭

i'm on pre pay handy can just top up on my phone.

  9. Can't take her anywhere, she was having a look at the puffa jackets and liked the ridgemonkey one i said get one if you like, nah, they only do them in green makes you look like a hand grenade.🤣 first time she has been a tackle shop in years, couldn't get over how much carp gear there was these days and the prices,  999.99 for the camo tempest in old 1970's sofa material, i thought they would be a real nice peach skin feel, floral sofa coverings sprang to mind.

  10. just back from AD, had a look at what bivvys they have set up, tell ya what i'm getting the advants peak with vents for 140, nice bit of kit don't see any point in lasing out big bucks for the same in a known name, i wasn't impressed by the pricey ones way too much money for what they are.

forgot to add, i think a lot of anglers are telling themselves porkies so glad i went and checked out these high grade fabrics just didn't feel right, think the fox frontier was best the trakker brolly is well over priced and just the same nylon as the basic stuff, i was well impressed by the advanta double skin just a bit out my price range, they also had the protector set up for 112.00 it was a good buy just no vents, the peak one has vents and is around the 150.00 price.

On my old lake they were banned and yet my particle mix was full of them, yet when the bailiff checked the bucket, he couldn't see any. There is always a way 😉

like it, that is what carp angling is, you know something is banned and you know why it is banned but because of that knowledge you can get away with it and feel confident using it. Be it a bait or bit of tackle, i have never used peanuts and i don't think they are banned on most of the waters i fish, knowing my luck i would have some whipper snapper half hanging out my bait bucket whinging like an uber bailiff.

  12. To avenger or inspire seems to be the end choice i'd grab the avenger but it doesn't have mozzi front doors i think the aspire at 350ish is a solid buy for me ticks all boxes bar price but it does look like a good solid bit of kit.

I see quest still sell bivvys thought they went bust? they do a centre block bivvy for around 300, looks a bit dodgy fragile called the deifier, i genuinely read defiler at first, just a little lol. 👁️‍🗨️

  13. never mind the material seem to all be different grades of polyester the more expensive are thicker with a diagonal stitch in the weave offers better air exchange, just when you think you have found one there is always a niggle, i'm not a big chap by any means but 130 cm headroom is just not for me, so that counts out a the typhoon and storm, the tempest would need to be the XL version which is a bit pricey for 210d and extra for a door. hmm...

Looked at some of the advanta they do a nice tall one with the extra skin but it's 300 which is a lot for what could be a lemon plus they seem to be a frame wrestler going by reviews, i do like the two rib style had one of the early pop ups years back not bad can't remember the brand it was just before pram hoods came out, put it up by standing on a line and shoving up the brolly type mech.

same for the jrc peak and wrap it's near the same price as the ASX by sonik which seems best value but if i can i think it will be one from prologic. but that could change 😆

  14. never tried it in angling due to cost but i know aloe vera would work like nothing else on the market a liter to 4 liters of spod mix would make for a comfy carp hang out area it's like catnip for fish, they have just started to test it in food fish farming.

  15. i just got a set of the cygnet ones for my 10 footers they are zipless and have no carry handles perfect for grabbing one out off the barrow without all the messing of a rod bag, got the elasticated bare butt section, looks carpy.

Very well padded all the latest range looks good from cygnet.
