Disagree, I fished a 16 acre pit that had only been fished once before in the past. We used boilie only and caught from the very first trip. Yonny is right, it's best to wean them on to boilies using a smaller particle like hemp or corn or any other particle. The baiting pyramid is a fundamental of any sustained baiting campaign ending in a boilie only approach.

No I use them for a purpose. It gives a bit of extra pressure when the fish is hooked and runs. Most of the time I have my butt eye past the alarm too, the line clip then creates the angle required for the bobbin. Ive found if you have Plenty of bream and tench in the venue then they just tighten the line up to the clip when you hook them and that’s it. Unless you hook a good sized tench of course. It meant for me they didn’t get the chance to get in to weedbeds on a couple of waters.

One of the unnecessary items that isn’t really needed but the tackle tarts will love imo. Carp have been caught on “un-neat” snowmen hookbaits for decades. Why do they suddenly need to be neat? Who knows. Does it matter what the snowman looks like? Course not. Will people buy it? Course they will.

Yeah mate. I’ve used it for chods over weed plenty. Personally still prefer unleaded leaders for over weed but the avid stuff does do the job.

I had a little go with them a few years ago through a uni friend. The pop ups are decent. The pink ones are really nice. I got a load of the switch. Didn’t rate it at all. Had a meaty/yeasty smell to it. I think the S7 is their best bait by the looks of what everyone uses in catch reports.

I use this knot Shockleader knot and it is very very strong. I’ve never come close to breaking it. I’ve even straightened out hooks on snags. I use avid outline if I’m using an fluoro leader. It straightened out very well and sinks well but is supple enough to lay nicely. It’s as invisible as you can get underwater too as it’s got a smokey brown pattern to it unlike other white clear fluorocarbons.

Get the fox edges easy splice. No needle, just a fine wire twisty thing. Makes it a doddle compared to a needle.

This. I very much doubt if people are caught by the EA they are not being prosecuted. They prosecute if you are caught more than 10m from your rods. It could be a case of the underfunding they have in enforcement in every area holding things up or stopping proceedings but that is a case for central government and DEFRA to be lobbied about.

I'd say if they are excreting whole food items then no digestion is happening at all, its in with one and out with another. There will be literature around carp digestion out there for sure

I've witnessed carp Emptying out full pellets before. They can just eat until it pushes whatever they are eating out the other end. I think it's a very rare thing to have them feeding that hard though

I'm normally using size 4s or 5s which means the eye is large enough to allow some minimal movement. I also get paranoid it might move when hitting the water, leaving me with a rig that isn't effective and me leaving it out for 12hrs+.

with the hook bead yes, or if you pull in to weed, but 99% of the time its reels in as it went out on a blank session. i've found that after a take though the hook beads get loose so you have to replace them regularly.

Not quite sure what you mean? Both knots should be tight and bedded down. The loop through the hook does move up and down the shank. I use hook beads to lock it in place so the ‘D’ is the size I want. On a take it pulls down to the hook eye either with the bead or over it. If using larger hooks with big eyes then you might want to shrink tube over it so the braid can’t slip in to the cut and damage.

Venue choice is everything mate, I went from lightly fished pits to a busy estate lake when I had my first child, met a few nice lads I now keep in touch with but on the whole it wasnt for me at all, I've spent a while on a park lake being the only one really fishing it which is kinda lonely but nice, it's the super tricky nature of it and with otters present I have packed it in on there. The river and intimate stalking and floater fishing for me until my next child is born this summer. I've managed to get my name down for a syndi local to me which has every box ticked, plus I know a few of the lads from a previous ticket too which always makes it nice. I was on the verge of packing up and joining most of my mates on the golf course in Spring. I've dug myself out the rut now and I've stopped buying golf kit and started buying fishing kit again!
