  1. have you checked they are closed because according to the canal and rivers trust, this is the list of canals that still enforce a close season
  2. just saw the sonik s3 and s4 are on a mega sale at the moment. depends what you want from a reel, big pit? bait runner? I'd say daiwa emblems are good for the price and built to last.
  3. Slept on it for over a year now and never noticed any elastic!! Too busy looking at the water...
  4. Bargain. It has some elastic on it though which the wychwood doesn't? Or I've never looked at mine properly.
  5. The wychwood bedchairs are good. The compact lightweight one with the camp trim. I have the smallest version to save on space and weight. I prefer it to my own bed and sleep much better in it. Been used plenty as a spare bed in mine and others houses and everyone loves it!
  6. In any case just cup spool on the cast and you never have to worry
  7. Easy option right there. I've been using big pits for years now and wouldn't dream of going back now to be honest. A friend upgraded from shimmy baitrunners to some big pits and he commented how easy casting is now for him. With QD now on a lot of big pits the baitrunners is obsolete I think.
  8. Yonny is right, it is a bit high, but it could be fine for over the top of low weed or leaves and sticks depending on the depth. I never normally use over 2 inches off the deck unless I really have to. Closer the better IMO. I'd also add to put pva foam on the multi as with the length it may tangle on the cast. I use a stiff material (pic in the multi rig thread) to make my pop-up multi rigs now as it performs much like the stiff hinged rig without the swivel.
  9. can't really tell form that far out. Look fine to me, just need to make sure the hooks are sharp.
  10. yep, large spomb full of particle... no problems. What I do is tie a kwik link direct to the braid so I can change spomb size or over to a lead to ensure correct distance . I rarely am spombing over 100yards much, so it may come unstuck if used rigourously at long distances but so far for me there has never been any problems
  11. I use this stuff: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1000M-BRAIDED-FISHING-LINE-SPECTRA-PE-DYNEEMA-1094-YARDS-BRAID-100-SUPER-STRONG/271570851226?_trksid=p2045573.c100506.m3226&_trkparms=aid%3D555014%26algo%3DPL.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43262%26meid%3Df2645aa2b30a427583d97d08f63cf237%26pid%3D100506%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26 I think I bought it in 40lb and use it straight through. Only crack off i've ever had was when the swivel on the spomb came apart. Cheap, up to the job and a choice of colours. Just a warning the dye does come off when wet so when spooling or prolonged spodding/marker work be careful of your hands and wipe down the line roller. I soaked my second spool in water for a day and spooled it tight through an old cloth, did the job getting most of the excess dye out.
  12. I use a sonik sks spod rod and it's easily good enough for the job. I have a mitchell avospod reel on it. Whole set-up with braid purchased off the bay in bulk for about £70 if you look around. Way I see it if I break the reel its only £30 to replace it. and the rod can be replaced for £35-45 depending on where you look. I can hit 100yards without using great casting technique with that set up.
  13. the new sonik alarms look alright for the money
  14. I dont use one of them, I use some shrink tubing (mainly because I have loads and im too tight to buy anti tangle sleeves) I form a big loop to attach to the kwik change clip and a 2 inch section of shrink tube is steamed around that with the know roughly in the middle. It helps kick the rig out on the cast. SO does hitting the clip correctly and feathering the line on the cast.
  15. These are overweighted. Found better results when fishing over clear enough bottoms. Slow sinking is a preference when using balanced baits or standard braid multi rigs. Those beads look good for beating the Crays. A shot on the tag end is another style of this rig. Could that avoid their attentions? Or even wire stripped from some leadcore?
  16. I will only use the multi rig. Great rig. Yours looks good. I mould the putty around the knot but that's personal preference. I also use a stiff material for the pop up section. Hope the pic works. Been deadly for me. Had many a fish over the last few years on the multi.
  17. I'm sure I read somewhere that above 1030mb is classed as extreme high pressure, however it seems to be a regular occurrence the last few years... Higher pressure does tend to mean the fish are higher up the water column, the sunshine and clear skies associated with a high pressure system help as the water will warm up quicker. Fish tend to be off the feed during the day due to higher pressure but having said that I have caught fish off the deck in high pressure systems during the daytime. Zigs or fishing in the shallow water should see you right though.
  18. jheeez! I've never had a problem there but must have been lucky, havent been there for a while though! The lack of day ticket waters around this way will push all of these sort of people together too. Elsons not too bad to fish, but the more skilled angler ends up on their I guess. It is funny when you see swan or mallard booked all weekend though! everyone else piles on to one lake all weekend and it shuts down completely
  19. Another thumbs up for the Bulim T4. Had mine for £35 delivered within 4 days from Australia. Proper solid bit of kit and could easily boil up a 20L stock pot on it in not too long. Kicks out some serious flame. Almost identical to some carp brand stoves which are £60-70 with carp tax.
  20. sorry I couldnt resist. I did a netting on there whilst studying, one spot was between the house and the island, the SW corner of the lake and we had all of the big fish and most of the stock in the net. This was early Feb though so defo a winter holding spot. May be of zero help but worth a look.
  21. I think the BT swim produces quickest but the Sky swim isn't far behind it. The fishing is slower the more are on the lake from experience.
  22. It is downright invisible, even in clear water. But im not looking from underneath/alongside it am I! Knot strength is great, beds down very well too. Not used it much, still have my fox submerge leaders at the moment but new ticket later this year has a leadcore ban (assuming it means leadfree leaders too) so will get more use soon.
  23. I have just started playing with the avid fluoro leader material https://www.avidcarp.com/Products/End-Tackle/Outline-Fluorocarbon-Leader Seems like good stuff, just needs a good stretch once off the spool as you'd expect.
  24. Seems as though I've found a good spot and they are loving the bait. Another park lake common at 20lb 2oz. Certainly enjoying my fishing at the moment!
