Lost a fish recently in lilies, braid cut through... whether there was another snag down there, or mussels, or snails or whatever or just the stems themselves I couldn't believe it.

I dont use any nash kit apart from the bread bombs. what a difference such a simple thing makes! They do rip easily though!

I have made my own. I've made my own marker floats for a while now and thought a zig float can't be any more difficult to make. I used a length of balsa (about 15mm diameter) cut to 3 inches. Sanded smooth and shaped at the edges to be rounded off. Next I made a hole through it using a very long nail. Make sure it is straight(ish) I then hammered in a inline lead insert and trimmed so it fit flush (measured against this before cutting the balsa so was almost bang on) gave them two/three coats of grey primer. It soaks it in so you need a second coat at least. Finished them off with a spray varnish from the model shop to seal the wood. (I did this after using them without and found they take on water like a sponge and sink pretty quickly. You live and learn) I've tested them now and they float for days in water so I'm good to use them. Just haven't got round to it since.

Don't think they are shrink wrap handles though. I did look at them. All seem to be abbreviated.

It depends on when next year. But £120-150 per rod is likely. Can go up to £200 per rod if the rod is right. I like the look of the sonik gravity X or the greys prodigy model that's near £200 a rod. Have a thing for slim shrink handles. Can't not have them.

what i'm really getting at is, is there much difference? (I know between rod brands, models, etc. there is but in general)

I'm just looking at rods, had an email about the new sonik vader rods (which look amazing for the price btw) and it got me thinking about when I get new rods next year. I currently have 2.75lb tc and it has seen me good through all types of fishing but it looks like fashion has won the day and 2.75tc is harder to find now, with most ranges starting at 3lb. Just wondering whether it is worth me upping the tc as I am going back to the gravel pits next year. Obviously it'll offer a bit more range if I need it. but in terms of grunt, well I landed a 40lb carp through a couple of weedbeds on my current rod and have had countless 20s from snaggy and weedy swims without much hassle. opinions?

exactly as above. I also use the atomic choppa droppa for my lead when using heli rigs. Means the lead comes off once you hook a fish so the hook isnt being bounced around in the fish's mouth.

is there any reason you need 3.5lb tc? Not got any advice about these rods but have a look at the sonik range. The new greys prodigy rods are meant to be very good too

I'd just find it embarrassing when someone noticed they weren't real delks. I'd get laughed out of fishing for that! Depends on your mates and dynamic of your syndicate or club I guess though.

Basically trying to look good on the bank without having the functionality of the actual alarm. Another example of carping mentality nowadays. So far removed from what it is all about. Want a delkim? Buy the EV. £50 each. Not a major expense. Kids come first of course they do. My family does, as sole earner I get it. But I'd rather save and buy the real deal. Just my opinion of course.

Yeah I'm after 1.2/1.6mm. If nothing turns up it'll be the same stuff. Or the ace stuff. Not a major expense but always interesting to find out

That is true also. Conversions weren't delkims as we know them. No Vibro system.

Other than that their alarms are fully patented? Or is it just the vibro sensor system that's patented?

Running out of shrink tubing now and need to replenish the stocks. Always looking out for the cheaper options, problem being I really like the translucent type, the Korda gravel and clay colours are what I've used before. I cant seem to find similar colours for any cheaper. Solid colours I can find on huge rolls. But not these. Anyone found them before? Know of anywhere?

I'm just sayin in relation to what other tackle costs it's not much but everyone seems to think it is. Id rather have a random casing but the vibro system than looking like a dell but with a roller wheel as it defeats the point of having one. Just my opinion but I have delkims for the vibro beating roller wheels for sensitivity, not the looks. May as well buy the sonik alarms for just over £100 for three and a receiver. Thats value. I got my mk1 txi+ alarms second hand. Won't replace them until they die. I could but what's the point if they work fine. As I said. It's not about looks for me it's about functionality. Just like I would rather drive a Nissan micra with a Ferrari engine over a Ferrari with a micra engine.

Yes. But if you want a delkim surely it's because of the vibration system. But you haven't. They do look the same but you may as well buy any roller wheel alarms instead of making them? Also I don't think delkims are that expensive in comparison to other items of tackle. Rods, reels, etc. £507 for three and a receiver (txi plus,so the best of the range) works out at £126.5 each. Pay more than that for one reel. Or rod. Just saying.

Whole point of a delkim is the vibration indication though isn't it?

But they are still roller wheel? Not vibration activated?
