  1. Having used that advanta power stove for a few overnighters, the Mrs using it for camping etc. I have to say I'm really impressed. This little stove is really quick and has a built in 'windshield'. The windshield is basically a conical piece of metal around the flame and the gas tube runs round the inside to preheat the gas. It's actually a fire maple stove as listed on the bay.
  2. Hi David. Not sure exactly what you mean by that. In a bite alarm/reciever, I'm not sure how you can shield against digital signals as opposed to analogue signals. TBH, most signals are analogue and it's the encoding of the data on a carrier wave that is digital. Everything ends up as analogue in transmission. Ive just looked at the Delkim website and their alarms use the 433.05-434.79Mhz ISM (unlicensed) band. I'm not sure what sources of interference would be in this range.
  3. I would hazard a guess on one of the unlicensed bands. I would guess at 2.4GHz. As it's an unlicensed frequency, there's very little they can do to stop the problem. Everything from microwaves and baby monitors to WiFi and Bluetooth use the 2.4GHz band. Basically anything wireless uses uses that band. The 5GHz band only got released recently. Try turning off the WiFi and Bluetooth on your phone to see if it stops. Also, modern components may be a lot better at picking up signals that those from 20 years ago making recent devices more sensitive to this sort of problem.
  4. If you get 2× 10w 12v and need to get 24v, you need to wire the 2 panels in series. There should be a black (-ve) and red (+ve) wire. The black on one panel needs to be connected to the red on the other. The other 2 leads should give you 24v at 20w.
  5. It's not showing on the government website. Is this an interim closure pending confirmation from CEFAS?
  6. I have 2 of these. I only use them whilst travelling. For 2.75lb rods, and compared to my Greys Prodigy plus 2.75lb rods, they feel like broomsticks. I've not any significant fish on them yet and probably never will. What I like about them is that they can sit across my boot made up ready to go without any seats down or having to go diagonally. Makes getting them into the car when going camping etc. a much easier sell to the mrs.
  7. I've just checked their fishing brochure. https://www.silvermere-golf.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Silvermere-Fishing-Brochure-2015_16.pdf It's last years, but it's saying £225 for the June to March opening times they have. If you're looking at Walton angling club, Painshill Park has a lot of weed. There are apparently some nice fish in there, but it's not an easy water. It's a shame about the Barwell Lake. Sounds like the current syndicate leadership are keeping as a clique. I'd love to find out who runs the waiting list and get on there as a start.
  8. Which day ticket have you been fishing? You're that close to me we should arrange a social. If you're Kingston way, try looking at silver mere golf club. They have a lake of a few acres which is syndicated, but is next to a road. There's also Walton angling society. They have rights to painshill park in Cobham and one other water. Both of those have decent fish in from what I've heard. As for Barwell lake, from what I've heard, even if you get your name down, unless you know a member and get an invite to try out, you'll never get on there. Andy in Surbiton angling might be able to get you the contact for there if you want to try. Have you looked at the Colne valley?
  9. Seems early for the reports this year. Hopefully it won't be as bad as 2 years ago.

    arachnophobia

I was fishing a local club lake near me a few years ago. It's in the middle of a nice housing estate, so no night fishing. In the middle of the day, I saw something moving across the water. Initially, I thought it was a small rat, but the shape wasn't right. As it swam past my swim, no further than 5m out, I could clearly see that it was a snake. Not sure if it was grass or adder, but I suspect it was the latter. My parents had an adder resident in their garden years ago. They're not really a problem to be honest. I would just recommend that you avoid treading on them. Apparently they don't like it.
  11. If they are saying 2% less stretch, to.me, I would read that as 2% of the 20%, so reduction of 0.4%. Is that really much of a difference. It's all playing with numbers. As they say 'there's lies, damn lies and statistics', just ask any politician. It's the same with marketing.
  12. Has any one had any recent experience of the nash trax evo? I know they're not the cheapest, but what's the build like? They look like they can carry very big loads.
  13. Even better, check out the video on YouTube. Look at the cooking and carping channel. They're sponsored by ridge monkey, but they show what can be done, including Thai green curry.
  14. Just gone for the xl. The wife saw it on cooking and carping and said she wants one. It'll end up in my cooking bag later on for when we go camping, so hopefully will stay there.
  15. Mines the 3m pack. I wonder if they had problems with line damage as I mentioned above. Cut steel wire can be sharp.
  16. I've got some of this and the back of mine states: Can be cut with sharp scissors What's put me off using it is that it's a coil of steel on the inside. It should be nice and heavy when on the lake bead, BUT if that's a coil of steel wire on the inside, surely the cut ends will be fairly sharp and could cause serious line damage. What I've gone for instead is the Korda Dark Matter and got myself the Nash Tube Threader. Basically a twisted long thin steel wire with a loop at the end.
  17. Is there anywhere to see these setup before buying?
  18. I was making some hobo stoves with the scouts out of drinks cans and noticed that it got easier to cut the cans with the scissors the more cans we had cut and how sharp the scissors were after. Only looked it up after. [emoji1]
  19. Try cutting some aluminium foil with the scissors you want to sharpen. Repeat until sharp enough. Usually does for me.
  20. I've got a pair of the Matrix stage stands. Great pieces of kit. The only downside is that you've got to take a screwdriver with you. The supplied screw is a standard Philips. If that's really too much of a hassle for you, there's the Jag stage bite. Very nicely engineered and one part works as a screwdriver, BUT, its £60+ for a pair. They supply a torx bit and a torx headed screw. These will probably work better overall, but I can imagine replacement screws being challenging to source. The bit looked like a standard screwdriver bit, so can probably be swapped out for a Philips or flat head bit of you want. Can't comment on the others but would expect them to be similar to the Matrix.
  21. I've got the Chub Vantage 3 rod plus. Comes with 3 individual sleeves and you can buy extras. They can vary from 11.6 ft to 12.6ft rods. (Get them asap if you go for this and want them) It will take a maximum of 5. Well made and each rod is very well protected. I've got my 3 rods, a spod rod and a float rod all made up plus my brolly system. Very nice bit of kit. Not sure how much longer they'll be doing it for. They released both this an the 5 star system back in 2013, so will probably be looking to replace it in the next year or 2. Is it fashion or planned obsolesence?
  22. Hi guys. Has anyone had any experience with these butt rests? I remember seeing them at the Carp Society show years ago and they looked to be really good, solid and easy to get you rods out of. Been thinking about them for ages and wondering whether to get some.
  23. Fished there once years ago. Nice little fishery, but seemed to mostly cater for the pleasure/match crowd. It wasn't a very picturesque place when I visited though, lots of bare earth as if they'd been doing some major remodelling. It may have improved though.
  24. Scary, yes but it could have an interesting positive outcome for others elsewhere. Firstly, if the fish are causing as much damage as is being reported to the local ecology, then the local government has to act in some way. Imagine if this was back here and the invasive species was topmouth gudgeon or Japanese Knotweed to name a couple of current threats we currently face. For both of these, we are looking at several ways of tackling them including, with Japanese Knotweed, the release of Japanese bugs that feed exclusively on the Japanese Knotweed. How is this any different to the Australian government releasing KHV? Secondly, I am pretty sure that when there have been outbreaks here of KHV, there have been survivors of the virus, just like there have been survivors of ebola in Africa. The net effect of this could result in a population of Carp that is immune to KHV, purely down to the numbers involved. This population could then be a source population that we could use to populate local waters with KHV resistant fish. Not what the Australian government intends or wants, but look at what's happening with anti-biotics.
  25. I went for the Angling Direct power stove. Exactly the same as the Trakker but £10 cheaper, plus it comes with a hard case instead of a drawstring bag.
