  1. tactics wise .... you can either roll baits through the swim or anchor them down with heavy leads both catch fish . Rig wise just standard knot less knot mate for ledgering , with slightly longer rigs . Boilies, pellets , meat , corn , maggots all will catch but boilies tend to target the barbel better than most things halibut pellets are also good but did seem to blow towards the end of my time fishing the Wye.
  2. Hi Theo.... long time no speak . I haven't been doing so much on the Wye the last few years . But ,Hereford district angling is definitely worth a look mate . 50 odd £ a year & plenty of barbel runs to go at . If you do go down this route I can put you on site few stretches that will do doubles
  3. Should be able to get down my field this weekend yonny & give it some stick will report back mate .
  4. Quite a few guys on here that I fish with use the fox supa brolly, & it's a good bit of kit ..... far superior to anything tfg produce . I was looking at a more mobile shelter last year compared to my armo . I narrowed down my choice to the supa brolly or the trakker tempest composite bivvy . Both you can get for around the same money & both are extremely quick up & down . I ended choosing the trakker as you can get a proper winter wrap for it ( with air gap between the skins) unlike brolly systems where it just sits on top & I really don't see the point in . I'm 6ft 5 & find fishing in the composite bivvy fine it's really roomy for such a small footprint because of its flat back . With wrap I honestly would of been happy with the supa brolly but being able to get your bed right up to the back of the trakker & tge proper winter wrap system swung it for me . Used it all of last year in some terrible storms & it's as solid as a rock. The material isn't aquatex like my armo so does suffer more from condensation but the wrap sorts that out in the cold months. Overall very happy with it .
  5. That's the stock pond mate. Fished the main lake a few times but only on socials ( whole lake bookings)
  6. This guy was casting 13ft ers over 200 yards
  7. Wafters fish perfectly fine on a standard knot less knot hair rig , done well for me in the past good hook holds etc.
  8. Just ordered some in 15lb yonny.... thanks for the info . Will get it loaded & give it a good testing down the field Sound mate
  9. morning yonny..... might be interested in this rig marole line you mention. I take it that's without a leader mate ? I'm looking at something to put on my spare spools for shorter range stuff that's better at coping with abrasion etc than my out & out casting line on the other spools . This stuff sounds like it might fit the bill , I was using pro gold but as good as this line is around snags etc it really doesn't cast well at all & having a snag line that you can still go 120 + with in the bag sounds perfect to me .
  10. I've got the older version with just the light rather than the underlit wheel, but shouldn't think there's much difference on power usage. I have just changed the batteries in mine after 4 years ! & they were still working just thought I bettter change them, glad I did as there was a little corrosion starting from the old battery.
  11. Completely agree about the fox stuff Yonny.... especially fishing in weed the coating doesn't last at all starts crinkling up. Haven't tried this esp loaded stuff might have to have a look at it .
  12. in which case your also criticising the multi rig .Those rigs you posted the picture of Phil ,wouldn't last 5 mins in some of the crey infested lakes i fish. It's all horses for courses mate .
  13. My mate was out of 4's the other day smufter he did have 6's though I picked up a pack.... if your desperate you can have them if you want .
  14. Just looked & custom reels change them for aluminium clips .
  15. My shimano reels have round stainless ones ... much prefer them to the plastic toothy one's on my daiwa's
  16. If your going to replace it go stainless steel, much kinder on the line than the rubbish plastic ones daiwa fit . Keep meaning to get mine changed on my BR's. A mate had his changed by custom reels you can find them on fb did a pukka job for him .
  17. If it's something you can afford chest waders should be part of your kit .... can make the difference between landing a fish or not/ having to pull for a break or not / & just landing fish in deeper water on some lakes ie good fish care . Obviously care must be taken when wading.
  18. Daiwa infinity BR 15 lb suffix Synergy no leader 160 yards 70 acres 3.25 torrix 12ft Or my free spirit 13 ft hi s 220's when I need to hit over 130 yards .
  19. It's about giving them very little to home in on & prevent them staying on your spot the entire time, if you feed boilies they won't leave you alone that's for sure . Horseshoe can be a nightmare for them .
  20. Have you tried reasonably fast breakdown pellets BC Leaves you with plenty of attraction in your area but nothing for them to pick up .
  21. The two fish I had the other day were both bottom baits yonny .... so agree that once its on the deck it will be fishing fine , just like to protect the hook point on the cast . Normally with a stick in my case .
  22. it's not just the hook landing on them either.... the length for your rig too .I was taking leaves down with the rig the other day as the the lead drops & the rig sinks behind it any leaves caught on the rig will travel along towards your hook as the lead sinks .
  23. Not at all mate ... could just see us going round in circles. It something I like to do on certain lakes that are covered in leaves . & your telling me i'm worried about something that will never happen, even though it did the last time I was out
