A local club to me has a rule of no floating baits or zig rigs, so anglers were fishing baits just under the surface with a float.
When bailiffs found out what was going on it was amended to baits were not allowed to be fished in the top 18inches of water.
I must admit that if I can surface fish I would have more distance between the float and hookbait, so that does look rather freaky.
I agree with Nick's theory .
The float stops would probably have been moved to alter the depth , the same as you you would try different depths with a Zig .

I was going to suggest a Multi-rig , but couldn't work out how you would attach the hair ; then along comes Nick to answer that question ! 😃.
What I would say though is I use a Chod Hook , i.e. an Outurned Eye , for my pop ups ( thanks Kev. ) , but others on here swear by a Curve Shank Hook ( inturned eye ) . I guess you experiment and choose what works for you .

We have inherited some land with a lake that has carp fish. We don’t fish but are thinking of setting up a fishery service; do we as land owners need a licence to offer this service? We don’t fish ourselves and are aware you need a personal licence to fish if we decide we want to take up this hobby but looking at it from a business point of view. Thanks.
I'm guessing Public Liability Insurance if you actually ran the fishery yourself ? .

I've spoke to someone who knows it inside out and he doesn't think it is the krays, but could be small catfish and eels. Could've been anything I guess, I was putting putty on the krimps so should have held OK. Back to the tungsten sinkers I think. I've not had one of those go missing yet 😂
Definately not Ronnie and Reggie .

There are no snags in the lake, the weed isn't a problem and doesn't frag the line. The problem is pikes teeth!
When I took the line off the reels by hand I checked it, and it was only on the rod I fish over particles or groundbait. The rods and line I fish over only boilies had no problems with fragging.
I think that the pike sit just off the bait picking off silver fish over them and swim through the line, biting it off in the process.
The carp will push them away, or are too big to be spooked by the pike.
If I could fish just boilies I would, but the particle bed is often a 'bonus' fish or two.
Years ago I actually tested Gardner Pro for Richard Gardner and wrote reviews on it. It's actually pretty good and abrasion resistant.
That all makes sense to me , Nick .
If it isn't nuisance Bream it's Pike , what is a poor Carp Angler to do ! 🙄 .

A new spool of Gardner Pro light in 15lb, and some tip 'tectors
This year I have been plagued by pike fragging and biting my line, chasing Spombs, sitting in the margins or chasing small perch and tench in the clear areas.
Tonights job is take the old line off all 3 reels and replace it with new.
Not Hydrotuff then , Nick ? .
Is it because you are going for distance rather than a snag line ? .

I've quit on slip D rigs😂
1 bite, one loss, my rods now all have classic spinners on again. 😎
You can't shortcut rig confidence. I've moved and I'm in the right zone, come on the chunky ones.
A chunky for Mr Chunkey 😁

Ever heard of yr.no ??
A friend who was a Park Ranger for local council swears by it...
Thanks , Highy .
I'll give them a trial over this weekend with all these weather warnings around .

So I have to laugh at the BBC weather forecasts on television and on the apps as they have been found to be least correct, often overestimating wind and rain.
Personally I use MetOffice and Accuweather most often, and that has changed a bit over the years as I realised how bad Carol Kirkwood and the BBC were getting. Not mentioned is that local ITV (in my case Anglia) seems to predict the weather closer to actual happenings.
I find the Met Office consistently under estimates the temperature .
Don't dis Carol tho' or I'll have to give you a slap , Nick .

It can go two ways - with the crook of the quick change facing the tip or the back of the hook. It should face the back of the hook👍
Yes , that's what Framey was saying now , and has said before .

Out of hospital at 5pm yesterday, and stayed the night at my mother's house so she could Childmind and Sky-sit.
I did have a typical reaction to morphine in the middle of the night, made me physically sick. Had to get up, get downstairs and into the bathroom in a hurry, not fun. Then of course that upset Sky, so after I'd sorted myself out I put her on the lead and took her into the garden so she could pee.
Poor dog, from about midnight until 5am, I was waking up, every hour at least once, so she simply did not know what to do.
Here's to a quick recovery for you , Nick .

Probably not, but sadly it is only sales that keep companies afloat. Produce a product that is perfect and lasts (for most) well beyond warranty you only get one sale. Make a new product within 5years or lifetime term you have more sales.
It is the way Fox alarms worked for years. Many products replaced before lifetime expired.
I have a pre-op this week to see if I'm fit for surgery. I presume it is for the tonsillectomy as the abscess is apparently life threatening; if it bursts I could inhale the liquid (it tastes foul), if it swells up it could potentially stop me breathing, and when it does return, although not enlarged, I have blood poisoning symptoms which can be fatal.
Hope the pre-op goes well Nick , and you then get an early date for your operation .

Well, I think that's the Day session gear sorted (unless I want a sling and some scales)
Got some pegs from Halfords, Half Litre Fabsil.
Spooled up the Float Rod, Washed and dried the Bivvy then gave a coat of Fabsil.
Sorted the 1 Rod Carp Setup.
Like this weekend I've been bored out my tree, SO...... got the gear to go this morning......NO LICENCE, couldn't be bothered fanny about so sorted all out so no dramas for next time.
Ah , I've missed seeing Super Dog , not so much Highy .

Hi mate,
That's good it worked straight away.
So you're using the ESP Tungsten loaded with a loop at both ends? If so I use a simple figure of eight loop knot for loops in coated braids. I have a little break in the coating under the putty.
Thanks , Kev.
Yes my Boom section has a loop at both ends .
I also have a break behind the loop knot extending back about 5mm , with my counterbalance weight 3mm back up the coated section of the braid .

Hi mate,
Initially I was using a coated braid, Suffix something or another but went onto ESP Tungsten Loaded which is 20lb I believe and really good.
More recently using a doubled over piece of stiff Korda Mouthtrap Chod Filament in 25lb for the hook loop, with the Tungsten Loaded as the boom section.
Either way I want the smallest hook end loop possible, prob 1 inch absolute max so it's as low as I can get it. Tight to get the hook on once the putty has been applied.
I have used longer booms and hook end loops so it's a stiff hinge rig early season when fishing over silk weed, but the low version works well for me generally.
Hooks are 4's or 6's Korda Choddy hooks or JPrecision Advanced Chods.
You'll need to pull the hook loop through the hook eye with floss - it's a tight fit on the stiff version, but I do prefer it.
Looking to adapt it for bottom baits at the mo. 👍
Hi Kev
So I have made ;
7" Esp Tungsten Loaded Semi Stiff boom section with a 1" loop .
No.6 Korda Choddy .
Nailed 2 Skimmer Bream in the middle of the bottom lip , and a little Tench , and a few Carp 😃 .
I have used the Kryston Non Slip Loop Knot for the loop , but it's a little fiddly ( I'm a simple soul ! ) , so I wondered what is the best Loop Knot ? .

Hello Woodcutter .
I'm thinking that some of your original gear , and that of Whataclonker , and Jules007 might well be collectors items now ? .
As Nick said his water doesn't fish well after October so maybe when you do get back on the bank you may be just getting back into the swing of things rather than actually catching much ? .
Tight lines .😃
