  1. Why is the lake named after the elephant man?
  2. I have tested it on the 25lb Fox rigidity and I am happy with the results. Thanks for your input though Richard, I will stick to the figure of eight if I drop down in BS. The lower the diameter of line, the easier it is to use a figure of eight anyway. Cheers mate.
  3. Get down the tackle shop by the Tesco's and join the Weston ticket. They have a few lakes (my house that I rent out backs on to one). They also control a bit of river. With the season not far away this would be a great option - some good fish in them! They did have the rights on the Axe cut off section. This might not be the case now as it is almost 3 years since I moved back to Shropshire. If it is then you have some very nice fish to go for! All for the price of a small club ticket (£30). http://www.wsmaa.co.uk/clubwatermaps.htm
  4. I have just tied up a chod rig using this loop. It is fair to say, I won't be using the figure of eight knot again for a chod. The rig spins better than ever. I was happy with the way I tied them. I saw this clip and it has made them so less fiddly! Took a couple of attempts to get the finishe rig length correct but very, very happy that I watched that clip. Thanks dan xx
  5. Have a search on here for Eastnor as I'm sure it has been mentioned not so long ago.
  6. I was working in Bridgy and ling in Weston. Spent most of my fishing time at the Water Park. Locally I used to go at the rivers/drains. I did start to spend a bit of time on Cellophane but it got cut short. Nicksingleton on here got me intereste in it and he did a fair bit on there. I'm still sure theres a supprise or two in there! http://www.bictonspecimenanglingclub.co.uk/Pages/news.html
  7. Hello Jules, which waters were you fishing down Somerset? Used to live down there before moving back up to Shropshire. I will try and get contact deatils to you for a cracking lake near Hereford but there may be a bit of a waiting list!
  8. There are some very nice fish in there. Are you on the Weston ticket?
  9. Matching the hook to the bait is a big part of the chod rig in my eyes. I like to use the biggest hook I can and as you say jez, a 6 is great with a 15mm popup. If using a 'tic tac' I like to drop to an 8 or even 9. That's when I drop down to the ultima link. Jamie - one of the most buoyant popups I've ever seen that doesn't contain cork!
  10. Or use the DSM pop ups that have stayed up for more than 48hours and I am sure would have done more - thats pierced!
  11. Fox rigidty. I have the 25lb version that will go through the eye of an Armour point SR size 7. It's tricky but cut at an angle and pulling the two strands of line already through at the same angle, leaves just enough room. I also use the Ultima stiff link in 18lb which holds its shape really well and will pass through size 8's and 9's in the above mentioned hook pattern. You could also look at mounting a mini swivel on the hook and a stop bead. Pull the bait right down onto (covering) the swivel. This way you can tie a standard knotless knot on the hook.
  12. Would the 25lb hooklink go through the eye of a size 8 three times or are you using an alternative to a 'D' to mount your bait?
  13. To fish it helicopter style with a back bead would I have to use a leader? As I don't no how you would use a back bead on straight mono? If I'm not mistaken you make your own wafters? And own a bait company? An it I remember rightly you supplied courtz and his mate some wafters for sandhurst and they bagged up on there last 24 hours there? Have a read through this: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=51296 Just use whichever rig suits if you want a helicopter rig without a leeder.
  14. I check the hook on every cast. Sometimes, fresh from the pack, I don't feel the need to sharpen. If it needs touching up then I will, regardless of if I have had a fish or not. If it is beyond honeing then a new rig is tied. As said befor, I always have more confidence if I run the point on the stone/file. It's saving me a bit in money as well. Before, I would just tie a new rig; now I get a bit more life out of the point, even taking into account the reduced time it takes to rust. But like I said; it's sharper for the time it's out!
  15. The Fox arma points that I use are very good out of the pack but after a fish or if the rigs been cast out a few times I always have more confidence touching them up! Once that has been done though, I have noticed a bit of rust forming on the hook point. Obvously due to the coating being removed. So the hooks don't last that much longer by honing the point, just stay shaper for the time they are out there.
  16. personally i think both are indespensible I use a fox sharpener. It has a groove in it which makes it easier to hone the hook at the right angle. I could do with the vice though to make things easier.
  17. That's two of us that iambum has converted now then!
  18. Look at your line going through the eye of the hook. Now imagine it going through an out-turned eye. The 'kink' in the stiff material disappears.
  19. Haha - Nash, do you guys have an event after every social we have on here? lol I remember the ARC one and you put up a similar post about lake info! lol Drop in for a brew if you can mate.
  20. I've not fished it but know Charlie, the owner. I have tried a couple of times to get up there as it's only a couple of mile from mine but have been let down by the ice both times. There was a feature done in one of the mags a few months ago. The cabin isn't that expensive if you are treating it as a holiday. How much does a log cabin cost for a weeks hire? With this, you get free fishing as well.
  21. I still stand by what I said on the other Wildmoor thread. You are however, absolutely right. You need to have confidence when you go fishing and if it meant that you wouldn't have any if you went to Wildmoor, then you would not enjoy it. To enjoy fishing is the most important aspect our sport.
  22. Have a look at Blackthorn in Shropshire. A new venue that is going about things in the right way. Charlie has also filmed some amazing scenes of carp grouped up in cold conditions - might emphasize the point of how important location can be
  23. How has bish supported the two posts slating the place? And yes, I would be very cautious of taking people's advice who have only one post to their name.
  24. Try putting a bit on top of your kettle whilst boiling it. Makes it soft much quicker than finger work!!!
  25. In that case, pull off a bit more material than normal to allow adjustment. Tie your hook on, then measure the length and tie on your swivel/loop at the end of your rig.
