    chods

Haha cob. I'm not using one on my current water, better options. When they are required then the following thread may help.... http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=51296 There are a few more threads on chods in the stickie section.
  2. Sharp braid scissors are needed by the sounds of things.
  3. Quick question - Do you tie your own bottom bait rigs?
  4. i dont follow you??? may be someone that HASN'T had a brain tumor removed by a surgeon that just got back from a holiday in Dublin can understand........but i dont. some thing to think about......a lead tied on to the mainline then hooklink tied to the lead, fixed lead.( death rig ) would be fine while its still connected to the rod....its when its NOT connected and left live in the water that it kills Your not following me right I mean a swivel tied to the end of the mainline then a weaker mono link tied to that swivel then the lead tied to the weaker mono. The hook link is still running on the mainline so no need for starky comments lol I would almost be hoping for the lead to snag if I cracked off or had my mainline part, if I were fishing a chod rig. That way, the rig would slide much easier off of the mainline leaving the fish free of trailing anything other than a 2-3 inch rig.
  5. i worry though that if i crack off or get cut off, that the weak link will go before the hook link leaves the leader....if thats LC i dont see how(without the leads weight) it can get dumped.... i fear it may make it half way, but then would the two ends twist around and never get free??? scary thought I dont use a leader or leadcore though. But if you are using a chod and you get cut off/crackoff surely you are set up that the hooklink just pulls off over the leader. yep thats my point and why i dont think rotten bottom/weak link leads on heli and leader set ups are safe. It's the only safe way to fish a chod otherwise the lead can never be ejected. I have a swivel below the bottom bead on my lead core then a 10 inch say of 5lb mono tied to the lead so it can snap off in weed ect. Then the hook link slides down to the bottOm bead which is held on by the swivel. What beanz is try to get across though, I think, is that the lead helps the fish get rid of the mainline by giving an anchor spot to pull away from after a crack off of line breaking above the rig.
  6. might be able to help there mate..along with a tar boiling ring to blast it My brother in law owns a hire company, got him on the lookout for an unwanted one! In the meantime though, I might take you up on the offer after August. After next week I'll be off the lake for over a month whilst getting married and sail fishing in Mexico whilst on honeymoon!
  7. Not on it yet. Went for a quick night a few weeks ago on bm. It grabbed me straight away, just like it did when I was 12! I think I'm not far away with what I'm doing - I'm fusing away from the glory spots and doing it my way on there. Time will tell if I am right or wrong but I know I'll enjoy trying. Need to get hold of a gurt big pan for boiling the amount of bait I'm getting through though! Lol
  8. Snag fishing, I wouldnt be wanting to use the chod rig or any other heli type rig. As you say, much better options. Since being back on the meres, I haven't used a chod at all. You know how silty and 'choddy' they are Del. Been using very, very light leads and small 'fluffy' bags. A wafter has been the bait so far.
  9. Yep. Flyers on slack lines, bitty takes when backleaded!
  10. I've wrote on hear a few years ago about how I thought a backless helped the hooking of the 'naked' chod. The waters I was fishing up until June this year though, back leads we're a big no no due to the amount of weed present. At sandhurst however, I backleaded my line and had a funny take which I said to courtz that I thought it wasnt a carp. Turned out to be a 40!
  11. I always fish a chod rig on a slack line. When I draw the rig out in my head when it is cast out and settled, I imagine the tight line to the lead. Where the rig sits in the main line, as jez says, around 12inches up; this would be off the deck putting the rig higher in the water than the 2 inch chod rig I have tied! Granted, fishing in deep silt this wouldn't be so prominent. Over light leaf litter etc though, and at short to mid range, I can't get past this feeling in my head!
  12. Have a look through those threads mate. Loads of pictures flying about for you to look at and help you understand the mechanics of the rig.
  13. Have a look in the rig tying stickies mate. Two threads in there regarding chod rigs and how to tie safer versions.
  14. My mate was in the kitchen around the same sort of time - Pete Walpole? Used to love going out on the kayaks. Best fun was on their quads though!
  15. Im not sure if I want these stories to be true or not, if you know what I mean!!!
  16. Only up the road from me. Been out on it, cycled round, walked round and fished it. Never seen any signs of carp but always thought! What years were you there Del? My best mate worked in the kitchen on leaving college.
  17. GT 80 has had a good following since its introduction in 2003.Sorry you didn't like it because we found it bullet proof. Its not in many shops at the moment because we're replacing it with GT80+ which has slightly better knot strength and abrasion resistance. Original GR60 should be available for another 2 years possibly longer if demand continues. Pro-Carp was introduced this year in an effort to provide a good reliable line for less than ten quid--check the knot strength against any .35 line, and the abrasion resistance is right up there. Hope this helps. Richard. Another constructive post from you Richard. It's nice to see a tackle company respond to posts in the way you do - no overselling or plugging etc. Just good feedback to the members on here, when the questions are asked. This is what, in my honest opinion, puts companies such as yours at the top of the pile. It would be great if others would follow suit.
  18. I have tested it on the 25lb Fox rigidity and I am happy with the results. Thanks for your input though Richard, I will stick to the figure of eight if I drop down in BS. The lower the diameter of line, the easier it is to use a figure of eight anyway. Cheers mate.
  19. I have just tied up a chod rig using this loop. It is fair to say, I won't be using the figure of eight knot again for a chod. The rig spins better than ever. I was happy with the way I tied them. I saw this clip and it has made them so less fiddly! Took a couple of attempts to get the finishe rig length correct but very, very happy that I watched that clip. Thanks dan xx
  20. Matching the hook to the bait is a big part of the chod rig in my eyes. I like to use the biggest hook I can and as you say jez, a 6 is great with a 15mm popup. If using a 'tic tac' I like to drop to an 8 or even 9. That's when I drop down to the ultima link. Jamie - one of the most buoyant popups I've ever seen that doesn't contain cork!
  21. Or use the DSM pop ups that have stayed up for more than 48hours and I am sure would have done more - thats pierced!
  22. Fox rigidty. I have the 25lb version that will go through the eye of an Armour point SR size 7. It's tricky but cut at an angle and pulling the two strands of line already through at the same angle, leaves just enough room. I also use the Ultima stiff link in 18lb which holds its shape really well and will pass through size 8's and 9's in the above mentioned hook pattern. You could also look at mounting a mini swivel on the hook and a stop bead. Pull the bait right down onto (covering) the swivel. This way you can tie a standard knotless knot on the hook.
  23. Would the 25lb hooklink go through the eye of a size 8 three times or are you using an alternative to a 'D' to mount your bait?
  24. To fish it helicopter style with a back bead would I have to use a leader? As I don't no how you would use a back bead on straight mono? If I'm not mistaken you make your own wafters? And own a bait company? An it I remember rightly you supplied courtz and his mate some wafters for sandhurst and they bagged up on there last 24 hours there? Have a read through this: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=51296 Just use whichever rig suits if you want a helicopter rig without a leeder.
  25. I check the hook on every cast. Sometimes, fresh from the pack, I don't feel the need to sharpen. If it needs touching up then I will, regardless of if I have had a fish or not. If it is beyond honeing then a new rig is tied. As said befor, I always have more confidence if I run the point on the stone/file. It's saving me a bit in money as well. Before, I would just tie a new rig; now I get a bit more life out of the point, even taking into account the reduced time it takes to rust. But like I said; it's sharper for the time it's out!
