No I don't read that in the replies mate, you've got 3.5's, they're fine for all carping and you can chuck a small spod/spomb out with them no worries. I've got 3.5's wouldn't swap them at all for all my fishing, the spod rod is 4lb+ but I'm chucking medium or large spombs. I use that rod with just a lead on for feature finding just because why not, it's a great caster and has decent feel because it's stiff, it also pulls through weed well being strong and is light and used with a light big reel made for the job. The only lighter rod I would ever use is a floater in 2.75lb - 3lb, 3lb preferably. Depends on the waters you fish though I guess. The only thing to consider is using braid for the feature finding, so having a spare spool of braid for your fishing rod, IF you are going to use it for feature finding and spodding at the beginning of the session. That's if you use mono for fishing. I don't know if that's helped or made it seem more complicated lol

Not sure, my mate got them from a guy on social media locally, we both got loads and because local he picked them up so no delivery charge. I'll ask him who and pm you mate 👍

I use my 4.5lb spod rod for spot finding and baiting up, it's a great rod, does more casts than any other rod so needs to be a good one IMO. Never used my marker rod, that's packed away in the attic - pointless thing. I'd have sold the marker but it's 12.6ft not everyones cup of tea so it got no interest online. You can use your fishing rods for everything if they are strong enough and you have braid or flouro on, not mono, as you wont feel much.

20 ltrs of worm cast soil to use as groundbait, for next trip - anything for an edge lol

Am I going bonkers or ??????
kevtaylor replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Sounds a good idea for a short session and the pots look bang on, it is easy to take far too much. But then you wouldn't want to run out lol 🤷♂️😄 -
He's the man, noone else comes close for me, maybe Adam Penning, but if I had to choose tel's shows and no others I'd be happy with that.

Thought I'd found a suitable one with cork handle, looked nice but had 50ml butt ring, lots I've looked at in 3lb versions have the 50s, not sure if I've got an issue with that or not tbh 🤷♂️

This is the problem, my mate bought a new 2.75lb floater rod and said it bent double and couldn't do anything with the fish. I'm thinking go straight in with a standard 3lb rod, like you say some of the floats weigh a bit and a big chuck might be needed on occasion, whilst it's usually close range. I want to give it a good go next year, the adjustable zigs caught me a few bonus fish this year. Embarrassed at how often I've gone fishing with no surface gear or baits tbh a zig can get you out of a hole but not as good as it would be if you had the bait to drift over them or the surface rod obvs. Lazy boy!

I've got the Fox version already but the insert had vanished last time out, had to repair with silicon and shrink tube as you do, if only these things came with component spares. They say the biggest one gives best bolt action but it feels weird on a light set-up I must admit, I like the 30g version, shame they didn't have any of the 50g. My mates got the 2.75 ESP floater rod but says it's too soft, I'm looking at the Fox Horizon XT in 3lb, maybe 2.75.

All 4.99 reduced - got a few more the week before but they're put away in the rucksack already- bargain, no excuse next season! New floater rod and reel next 👍 These are for mates who moaned about missing out lol 😂

Well it does seem to have gone straight to winter at the mo, ive got trips planned for later in the year, seemed a good idea at the time! 🤦♂️

Haha was thinking the same. If I have to replace my fishing rods i'll look at the Tackle Box range for sure after this. I fell on the rod they owed me nothing! 👍 My mate suggesting asking, hadn't entered my head tbh

Not bought yet but found out I can buy a spare tip section for my Tackle Box Spod Rod for £34 and £12 delivery, not bad for a £170+ rod that I was gonna chuck away. Will have a perfect spare spod rod now, 2 the same 👍

I've got Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro on my Baitboat, works a treat. Yes it does show fish but more useful for showing bottom contours, firmness and weed. Have also used Lowrence including the Active Target version for predator fishing, that's brilliant! Most of the time having the additional technology makes no difference to the areas you'd choose to fish, we largely find the same features leading about, however seeing the depths in chart form might make you reconsider your spots on occasion, seeing fish also might. For finding presentable ground in areas that cannot be cast to its a game changer! I only change the depth range on mine, only because I don't know enough to worry about other settings, all seems fine to me as standard. Maybe I should re-visit the manual, I could be missing out I guess.

Good point - I reeled in at midnight on the social and on Kingy a few weeks back. Rod back out at first light.

Might have to look at braided mainline if true snag fishing, they'll take an extra 10 yards in stretch easily from 80 yards cast out using mono. Put rods at an angle so they can bend round, completely tight clutches, pole beside the rods so they don't get pulled in, decent back grip rests. Stay by rods at all times and have a plan, such as as soon as I pick up the rod walk backwards quick to pull away from obstacle. Not relaxing fishing by any means.

Not 100% - but I think these are the ones I like most from the past, could be wrong but at over 2k for a 2nd hand set - probably won't be getting any. Shimano Aero Technium XTA 12000
-
Nice one Nick, think I'm going for one of the actual fishing reels in the XTB range, said to have better internal components than the spod version, will cost more but should be a lot better - fingers crossed. I think the 8000 size of the Aerlex are a bit on the small size for fast retrieve, but like you say bulletproof! 👍

Is Delkim the best bite alarm and why?
kevtaylor replied to andywilson123's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Had Delks for a good few years, very disappointed in mine, they do not like rain or humidity and I've bought the better back plate - still just as bad. Will eventually replace with Fox but it's an expensive game or I would have done ages ago. Not sure how much better the new model is or if it fixes the problems of the previous version. -
BEST THROUGH ACTION RODS
kevtaylor replied to KINDFISHER's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Mine are 3.5lb, 12.6ft it was an all out casting rod turned players rod with the removal of the outer weave on the tip section. I don't know what you'd call the action but it plays fish lovely, no hook pulls and has the backbone to deal with massive fish and pulling out of weed beds and it was the best casting rod at some point in time. Not a broom stick by any means. It's old technology now but I wouldnt swap - hoping they last the rest of my lifetime, I certainly look after them. I guess one of the factors in play is people using bigger leads than they did in the past. -
I wouldn't worry, I've spent 100s on pop-ups that don't pop-up, that's fishing 🤣👍
-
I wouldn't fish a short uncoated braid to a 4oz lead and not drop it. Lead clip or drop off inline.
-
I recommended ESP Tungsten Loaded, your not using that - its a coated braid and why I recommended it. I dont use uncoated braids they are a tangle risk and offer little in the way of separation. You asked for a supple braid I gave you one, its too thick for rig making for me - but seemed a good option for you, if you dont like it take it up with them ' not me 👍 If I wanted a supple braid I use Richworth Sourcerer, but you cant get that anymore - I have lots however! 👍
