  1. Sound - cheers mate, I've lasted this long with knots, can live without crimping for sure 👍
  2. If you're fishing where I think you are - you do know the 43 is loooong gone right, just checking?
  3. Cheers mate - got the trick link, never used crimps though, might have to give them a try 👍
  4. Thanks mate - that sounds good stuff - which knot you choosing for leader to mainline?
  5. Hi - for the visual element I'm looking at fluoro for leaders and hook links. I've got some old Korda and Fox stuff but wondering what's the best people have come across in recent times? I'm hoping some of the new ones are a lot more supple? Cheers 👍
  6. I'm not knocking you at all, don't get that impression - I said I applaud thinking outside the box. There are far too many blind followers these days and without thinkers there would be no progression. I've had many ideas over the years from using powdered clay in baits in spring to various uses of decoy baits and rig tweeks, if I get the bank time to put ideas into action I will tell you about it years later once I've caught everything lol My ideas seem to come to me when I'm trying to get to sleep, mulling over a problem or experience - I have to run for a pen and paper or its gone forever! Seeing the carp head did make me giggle _ I was probably 18 and was catching so many carp on the standard hair rig I didn't need anything technical - this was really ahead of the times - but as far as I know the guy didn't sell lots of them. What you've said about the little tench is very interesting and backs up your line of thinking 👍
  7. Like others I'm a little confused in it being said that they dont get away with it - I mean how would you know? I'm often using the bare multi rig for pop-ups which allegedly shows when ones been pricked as the hook is free to move with any tightening- well that's happened once in 5+ years and I've caught a fair few fish on it - so is that a wonder rig - it seems to nail everything that takes it, but I bet in reality I've been done countless times by takes so gentle it didnt prick itself at all. I met someone 30 odd years ago who'd designed a carps head that sucked in rigs for testing purposes - I laughed it off tbh if it were so good we'd all have them surely. You cant replicate what's going on with a palm test or fake fish head imo but its brilliant to think outside the box so I applaud it. Really just want to see the results compared to other rigs, who's tried it so far and what are the original posters results?
  8. Not sure how you can get in a mess tbh - you just pull the little tag end created then feed the lead back through the loop - couldn't be simpler, what are doing to get a tangle lol
  9. The heli set-up should be OK with either stiff or subtle. The only problem I see is if you want to chuck the bag straight in the weed, then you might need the hook link completely inside the bag. For a couple of years I often used the long bags from ESP because I was using coated braid and didn't want the rig curled round in the bag, they are long enough to fit the lot in straight just depends how far out you're fishing coz they make a weighty parcel to chuck out. Think they were about 2in x 8in, should still be available. Thinking back it was a very successful method, I had a great summer and a PB mirror.
  10. Silly Club rules - I feel your pain You could fish Heli style, put the lead in the bag but have the link starting above and outside the bag, you can still hook into the outside of the bag to cover the point and your hook link can be kept straight between the bottom bead and bag. Not sure that's described very well without a picture?
  11. Must be pretty rare though, could be more likely he has misread the rules? There are some strange rules out there though no doubt! 🤷‍♂️
  12. You might find it's a main line braid ban not hooklinks. Can't remember seeing anywhere banning braid as hook lengths - seems a bit odd tbh
  13. I'm looking at getting Powapacs Atom. Might be worth a look?
  14. A view from the bivvy door 4am saturday - quite a gathering 😍
  15. Lol thought so - sounded too familiar not to be 🤦‍♂️🤣👍
  16. Do I know this guy - seems strangely familiar?
  17. Send it back mate - if its not right it's not right, you can't be expected to fix a new reel with washers! Shimano has obviously gone down hill a bit with the quality of their reels. My new spod reel ceased up on it's first outing, I got it moving again but really not the point, I have the expectation now that it will happen again mid session, didn't think I would ever be bad mouthing Shimmy but a sign of the times., I should have sent that back but didn't - you've reminded me what a fool I've been.

    Dogs and fishing

My daughters first dog, much to my approval a cocker called Max. It's been a while since I trained a dog to be a good fishing companion - maybe it just came with age with mine. Eek its gonna chew my kit, didnt think about the bad stuff! 🤦‍♂️
  21. Carp want to mix genes, escape to waters new. When a lake is about to flood the fish are usually lining up ready to escape. So inquisitive that they can end up dying in drainage ditches etc
  22. Thought had crossed my mind lol 👍 I'm only put off by the van and trailer part 🤣
  23. Show off lol I'm waiting for the drive-able version to come out! It's got bags for days!
  24. It's Nene to me - you're so common! 🤦‍♂️
  25. It's Neen - although I'm not local I know locals who say Nen isn't a thing at all. I bought the ticket for Ferry Meadows and the Nene last year but never went lol - bit of a waste of money on my part 🤦‍♂️
