  1. I blanked anyway lol but always nice to be out trying
  2. Big moon - big fish?
  3. I did a 3 night social on Bluebell's Swan last week - unfortunately a blank for both of us on the back of the wind although we were on fish for the first day or so and pretty close throughout tbh. A great trip, good company and I learnt plenty - a few did come out to guys opposite one another so I now know the winter-early spring feeding zone 👍 One swim mapped many more to go. Got the bit between my teeth now - time to push on! 👍
  4. Sure does - the promo video kind of shows them not really scared off but then it would. They do say dont do this anywhere you might upset other anglers in fairness. But we know some idoit will do just that - the lampings will have different meanings lol
  5. Shining the brightest light you can get into the water to look for fish at night. Which brings about our other understanding of the word.👍
  6. Anyone lamping near me will get just that - lamped out! 🤣 Might be a good idea on an empty canal but a water with other anglers on - NO
  7. From my personal experience you need to forget about carp companies, they don't know anything about bad weather gear. Look at the clothing the Boat Anglers use - predator and fly fishing, it HAS be be 100% waterproof and warm as there is no escaping the elements when your in the middle of an inland sea type reservoir. Expensive but buy once!
  8. Did 2 nights in Dec, one in Jan, got 3 nights booked for mid Feb - fingers crossed for an early spring whacker!
  9. That's a good idea if I cant fix it Thanks for the suggestions guys - appreciated 👍
  10. I've used rubber O rings and leather washers on mine, neither have stopped it happening, then it's an old pod - think the threads are turning inside the buzz bar tbh Going to try a second leather washer on each and if that doesn't fix it either put up with it as usual or buy a new pod. How could I chuck away a Quatro pod though an absolute classic bit of kit! 😪
  11. Nuff said - will have to give this stuff a try - cheers! 👍
  12. Another point IF you use pop-ups in the deeper areas they will be affected by water pressure - they will lay down completely over time, much shorter time. I recommend cork ball pop-ups or a cork plug, better still bottom baits then it's no worries!
  13. All good points above. All I would reiterate is that 25ft is only an issue to you- the fish know no different, if the food is down there they will find and eat it. As with any bottom areas do make sure you choose a nice area to begin with, clean, smooth and not smelly, sniff the lead. If casting and spodding to clips be sure to allow for the drop this is important on deep water, I subtract a third of the depth for the spod measurement, works for me but people are different. Good luck 👍
  14. Going Bluebell tomorrow for a night will try to get info on what's been eaten so far this winter, mid-December I heard 2 x 30's from Kingy.  Has to be a LOT more by now.  Trev might not tell me any more, I already know too much lol

The number of bigguns in there the otters don't seem to touch the sides!!

  15. I agree with the others, new kill. Fence the lake or this is the future! Sad times
  16. I used to feed the carp bread in my lunch break around the weir at King Power Stadium, sitting on the lock gate, fish were often there, some good ones too. Wanted to fish for them but didn't feel comfortable in the area. Said to have done a 40lb fish and I believe it possible from what I've seen - many years ago mind! Unfortunately lots of evidence of predators south of the City, not sure what the score is in town?
  17. They also make good cooler blocks so you can take a few frozen to use in a few days time for the longer session 👍
  18. Had my biggest hits ever on a particle mix from Hinders, can't see it on there now but it contained aniseed, was incredible fishing. Mix probably wasn't important just right time, place, food. I prepare mine and freeze with water in the bags.
  19. Like it - can I borrow your dog mine would run the other way lol It was amazing hearing the Coot alarm calls sounding around the lakes - I will remember that for a long time. I think 99% of the anglers around the lake were completely unaware.
  20. I'd agree with this - sounds like an otter unfortunately. I was on one of the busiest waters in the country a few weeks back on a full lake, had to call the bailiff first night as an otter swim past my rod tips at dusk, spent the next 3 nights on watch. Whilst I didn't see him second night the Coots gave his presence away by calling out to one another in turn around the lake - then the next lake and so on until I had a 360 degree chorus. It was a real Terry Hearn and the Fox and Pheasants moment. These hand reared otters have zero fear of humans, every swim is taken, many anglers have dogs yet here he is bold as brass!
  21. 'Storm Overflow' - the legal dumping of raw sewage into our rivers. Said to be a measure for dealing with rare weather occurrences, but water companies have been seen to do this for six months non stop, utter disgrace!
  22. Taken my son Pitsford twice now - both times we struggled for perch, he hooked the only one first trip and a pike took it near the boat - landed neither. Ended up with a few Jack's each first trip. Second trip zero perch, more Jacks and a few rainbows. Great fun - I love it Good luck with your session 👍
  23. I should add: most of the time I keep the distance the same, if it's shallow the bait will fall a little behind the rods which is good IMO, only if it's deep I start subtracting a little for the spod.👍
  24. If you want the distance the same for the rods and spod then the spod will need an extra foot adding when wrapping up coz the rods are different lengths. On deeper lakes you need to have the spod a little shorter to allow for the swing back on the rods. If the lake is 12 foot deep I subtract a third from the spod, so 4 feet less than the rods. Distance between the sticks can be anything - 6 feet, 10 feet whatever, but should be consistent each time you go. I lay the spod rod on the floor and put the sticks in the ground at each end of the rod, 12ft for me.
  25. I had the Greys 12.6 Distance Marker, gotta say I hated it from day one, so tip heavy, completely unbalanced. Spod wise I recently replaced my old Greys 12ft Spod with 'The Tackle Box's' Spod rod after reading a price bracket rod testing review, it won the mid and top end groups. Cost about £160 - not used it loads yet but like it a lot. 👍
