Matching spod rods? Free spirit helical spod
kevtaylor replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Good point didn't think of that, I just take one and use for both spod and marker, but then I very rarely use a marker, the other is a spare in the attic. Doubles as a pair of cats rods should I do that one day. -
Matching spod rods? Free spirit helical spod
kevtaylor replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Tackle box CFX Black edition, brilliant rod for the money, came out top in some published comparisons after field testing ð I fell on one snapped it in half and bought the same rod again - says it all, although after I realised I could buy a spare tip, so now I have 2 matching spod rods ðĪĢ -
Couple of shots from my recent 5 night blank on Swan Lake, Bluebell. A case of so near yet so far, the fish were smashing naturals in a tennis court sized area, moved to get the traps closer but chose a bad spot (felt feint gravel but the rods came back with a little silk weed on each) at ranges I shouldn't have been fishing so couldn't check the rods once in place - bad move in hindsight, thought I was being clever. ðĪĶââïļ

Thats a good call mate I like the look of that. If I hadn't of lost the fish of a lifetime because of one of them dangling from a tree I'd have bought one years ago lol

I've started struggling to get the spomb to open on every cast since changing to braid, and maybe the spombs are getting on a bit, I have to catch to spomb up high and follow it down otherwise it won't open, mono just stretches and carries on with the same trajectory. With a bad arm I dont want to be doing double the effort so easy to open spod seems the better option. Nice one for the suggestion ð

20k of Odyssey XXX for my France trip at the end of the month and 2 Wolf Spods, wanted to be throwing sticking it out but my right arm is playing up again so the spods are backup.

We're loving this bivvy (Aqua Ultralite) - good headroom for sitting inside, bigger than my brolley and quality. We broke one of the side sticks so replaced the 4 wiv Prolite obvs ðĪĢ Taking it France for a week - already done a 5 nighter in there so not feeling like I need to go to my bigger one. No complaints yet and bought in the bundle deal which seems great value IMO

Yeah it's not for me, if I wanted it off the bottom I'd use a pop-up rig, but I'm sure it works just like all rigs work in the right situation. I have 2 rigs that do it all and both are versions of the multi rig. They want to sell us all sorts of stuff to put a rig together, when you start needing swivels to connect the hook and pointless weights I'm out. But if I start blanking badly I might revisit lol
-
Yeah I wont use a rig balanced in that way, I have the hook laying flat with anything balanced. Blunting and asking to pick up debris IMO
-
It wouldn't work well on a soft bottom or in weed as you say and short rigs on hard ground is age old as are weighted hooks. If you wanted to do this just floss a split shot would prob do the job better anyway. I'm not at all convinced because show me a rig where the hook doesnt hang down when the bait is lifted? I think if they'd have gone back to what they started with in a shorter length they'd have caught just as many.
-
OK so what did we really learn from the latest video, short rigs on gravel bottoms - nothing new whatsoever, did the shot have an impact or the rig length? they didn't compare to their previous rigs in shorter versions, so we learnt just that shorter rigs worked better on the hard ground ðĪĢ

Took mine for weekend trips from the ages of around 3 onwards, took life jackets, they loved it, finding newts - picking berries, catching tidlers - fun fun fun Neither fish now though so maybe I got it wrong, but both love being by water still, so I'll take that as a minor win ðĪ·ââïļ What woman wouldn't want you to take the kids away for a while, any that refuse must be bonkers!

Seems they like some people more than others, a friend came into my swim one evening and the mozzies were swarming him. He wrapped up and they were still going for his fingers that were not covered, whilst I stood next to him with none attacking me. I take it I've got bad blood, he's got good.

My first email was to carpology saying I feel they are partly to blame and that they should at least take the videos down. I got no reply but from what you're saying they may have done it. Shoddy geezer, he'll be a wanted man. Took my mate a couple of hours on Facebook to locate his village, mobile number his cars and the clubs and venues he visits and when. Was surprised how easy the info line was followed. Removing your facebook account meant nothing!

So this never arrived (Barrow Conversions UK Ltd - conversion kit) along with many other unlucky customers. Looks like my bank is sorting a refund (fingers crossed) but many will be out of pocket. No answers to emails, phone line down, dreadful company! Gonna pre-order from CarpPorter hopefully get one for winter/early spring - should have got a whole new barrow in hindsight and stuck with the big boys - not tried cowboys! Lesson learnt ðĪŽ

Nicks on the acid again! ðĪŠð

Everythig eats the eggs mate, not seen Mallards doing it but not a surprise one bit. If you want babies you've gotta grab some of the weed out of the pond as soon as you see the females you want spawning in an area. Put it in a separate tank to hatch, quite a few waters doing this now which is great and will preserve some cracking blood lines. ð

All dogs I've had go nuts as soon as the first tackle item comes out the cupboard, they know were off on an adventure ðð

ESP buzz bars look nice
kevtaylor replied to elmoputney's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Jag have a turning system that allows you to line up the alarms or rests perfectly, mine are bang on and really tight with no washers at all. It is a bit fiddly but once you understand what to do it's simple. Were you not aware of this? -

Yeah they obvs seen a gap on price point, just surprised they copied the lock and tops almost exactly. The alignment mechanism on the bars looks great, not sure on the look though for me with the bulky ends and set length. I wouldn't change my 2+1's, apart from needing 3 spread single rods, these cover everything I need and got the pod to go with it for platforms etc. Obvs had to get the storm sticks for my Ultralite in all 3 sizes lol I laughed at my mate when he got his Jag pod, couldn't believe what he paid, 3 years later I've got more than him. The addiction is real ðĪĢ -

I'm surprised the bank sticks are a copy of the Jag Prolite sticks right down to the lock, insert and thread end. I bet Jag are not impressed. -
I put the putty on the loop knot, secures the putty and lowers the pop-up to the max. Seems to work high, low or medium just adjust to suit what your fishing over. Pic is the stiff bottom end version
-
Hi mate, That's good it worked straight away. So you're using the ESP Tungsten loaded with a loop at both ends? If so I use a simple figure of eight loop knot for loops in coated braids. I have a little break in the coating under the putty.

Low chair/bed chair (Solar or other suggestions)
kevtaylor replied to kevtaylor's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
I should have said - it's deep packed down not wide, so as deep as a bed chair, as you can see above, that's the only downer IMO, so far obvs. -
First week back after spawning, new swim another blank, loads of liners as the fish moved accross the huge marginal plateau but the swans make it tricky to fish. Saturday morning they closed the bottom end of the lake as they were spawning again.
