  1. http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=42385&highlight=four+seasons right, there are some negative coments on here but the owner had the decency to come on here and put a few things right, if the fishery is near you why not give it a go and decide for your self.........might be the best thing you ever did (carp wise) then come back to this thread and give your opinion
  2. sorry mate cant but lots of lakes in the area do a search on here try northampton and waters in the search should get a good few results http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=43674&highlight=northampton+waters
  3. welcome to the forum, http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=27241&highlight=trentham+gardens here is a start but info might be out of date, sure some members on here can update it some what
  4. welcome aboard, if you ok with travelling look at northampton waters
  5. Well, i played about with some old lead core over xmas and you guessed it, still cant find a way of using it safely, though terry hearn did an article about lead/chod and recommended using heavy mainline with l/core to reduce the overall chance of snapping of, that made me think it might be right to use heavy mainline and a weaker hooklink with the l/core. Still think its a no go though, so im trying rig marole kevlar leader for the chod rig, its metal free apart from the quick link swivel at one end, 50lb breaking strain and thinner than lead core so any bead will slip of with ease i will post a pic of the set up soon for you fellow anglers to give your opinion
  6. on this forum home page is a section fishing holidays with a few good venues to look at
  7. linear waters can be very hard, lots of angling pressure from all angles, maybe try brasenose lakes see if you can hold a feeding group with spod mix

    hooks

yes great hooks but shame about the finish, though i have had them snap once or twice! At present im using osprey tactical sabre points, and very pleased with the sharpness, finish and they are just right for both set ups i use at sapphire, the hinged stiff pop up and simple bottom rig, all i got to do now is get a fish on, the hard part
  9. I must be old fashioned, I still think a bivvy is the lap of luxury! Huts are where sheep sleep, aren't they? Or is it shepherds? Anglers?.....no, surely not. Ian i second that, bivvy for me any day, a hut would be like having a caravan on the peg.........But a hut can be a great idea for couples when a woman dont like tents
  10. reckon the big thing with river carping will be fish location, lots of observation during close season

    hooks

Hi all, thought i would start one about different hooks for different rigs as i never seem to know what hook for what rig and presentation with so many patterns like long shank, beaked, down turned eye curved shank ans many more, i figured after a few good replies this would make a good sticky thread. this is not a thread about "your favourite hook" but about what "style" of hook for certain rigs
  12. further to my post above im thinking there must be one or 2 decent waters in the manchester area so any one know of these
  13. Hi all, im looking for a new water and just maybe some one on here can help. it would be around 4-6 acres, day ticket or club membership (not syndi) very peaceful and pretty and contain a few thirties to try for but no further than about 90 miles from huddersfield, preferably a lot less, oh and some where that allows non fishing guests as my partner likes to tag along (cromwell would be good but they charge £12 for non fishing guest!) any help would be appreciated
  14. think they are called pride of derby lakes, bit of a syndicate job, do a search on here been posted about before http://www.prideofderby.co.uk/index.php this should help
  15. i have come across the osprey sabre point hook and they seem well made and very sharp, think i will get some more
  16. If you want to make snowman rigs you are best to learn to tie rigs, all you need to learn is the knotless knot, there is some good diagrams on here do a search, its very easy, snowman bait i would suggest a 15mm bottom bait with 10mm pop up. be careful with the lead clip set up, if the tail rubber cant come of to discarge the lead, then it becomes a fixed rig, or death rig, look at getting some inline leads (fox are best) free running is also very safe and very easy to set up, simple bomb with swivel thread mainline through lead, then a rubber shock bead then rig tied to mainline (swivel) hope this helps
  17. well the price is right, might have a dabble in the spring, what sort of size do the carp run to in the medium size pits (pit4?)
  18. dug this up from the past i fancy doing some time on the pits this coming year (2010) i have heard the pits suffer from trouble at times, like tackle theft, dont know if this is true though is it still same price for 24 hours
  19. hi mate, about only venue i can think of is cellers clough in marsden as its a day ticket venue and does have some fish over 20lb (not many) there is a web site and you have to phone to book on, hope this helps
