The fox crimps are designed for monos, crimps dont work with braids as they slip coated braids are different and will work. I think some more playing about is required
-
I wouldn't use it on Fluoro a few years ago but i think the newer softer types aren't so bad although i would still like to experiment a bit more with it. I was playing with utimates stiff rig material and it seemed fine with that.

Funny this as i was sat playing with crimps and 18/20lb stiff links yesterday when bored out of my tiny little mind lol. Very strong joints and on testing with some Korda pullers the material was breaking on the swivel not the crimp. Did a couple of chods with it and managed to snap the hook in half before the material so i guess in a fishing situation where you would put no where as near much pressure you would be fine. Fox do some crimps which are designed for mono use in sea fishing you can get most stiff links three times through these for a bit of extra security. Jez

Now for all the new members on here i ask this question as to me 99% of all rigs do not act anything like people think in the water for 99% of the time. Many moons past a really good thread on here COMPLICATED RIGS was a really interesting read and i posted my views then and they aint really changed much in the time that has past. I fish mostly very low stocked waters along with one more heavily stocked more pressured water and watching the fish has made me realise in my eyes that 99% of what we read about rigs is total rubbish. Basically they suck it in they spit it out and if we are lucky the hook penetrates enough to spook them. The only real difference i have found is a better hooking ratio on a simple running rig with a light lead. 360 rigs etc are just avoided on my waters (to much metal on show) and a simple knotless knot works far better than most contraptions involving rig rings blah blah blah. What are your opinions? do you think rigs can make a major difference or are they a small part of the overall equation. Before you answer think about the fact that different carp feed in different ways, for instance a deep fat bellied simmo might have to tip right up to pick up bait items but a long slender leney might only have to tip up say 15% to reach the same bait. With this as a consideration which not many will even consider how can we really hope to discover the ultimate rig. http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=9536 Edited to add link to Complicated rigs thread NG

Like Beanz says i cant see it working like they say it will. Reminds me of one of these rigs designed at home and not really tested on the bank. Still give it a try what have you got to lose.

Leadcore now where do we start, i suggest you read through some of the leader debates on here to see my thoughts on the stuff. But here we aren't talking about 5 or 6ft of the stuff but 5 or 6 inches on a hooklink not exactly the same is it. To be honest mate to me the rig in either form isnt needed but thats my opinion after carping for the best part of 30 years using nice and simple rigs.
-
What's so new about that only the same as using a length of leadcore for the hooklink which has been about for at least 15 years. Litter rig lol i've heard it all now.
-
Your wasting your breath lads he's just another brainwashed by Danny clone who aint got a clue. Line lifts scales lol what about the millions of fish caught by non carp anglers who dont use leaders or tubing dont see many lifted scales there do we.

All i know is this, in my keep it simple approach to fishing i have never in nearly 30 years bothered with a corked bait or a critically balanced bait and i've caught 1000s of carp. on a few occasions i have witnessed carp spook off an area when a critically balanced bait has wafted up off the bottom as they mooch about. Lets be honest they pick up so much rubbish such as stones etc in a feeding situation that i dont believe they can distinguish the weight difference of a hooked bait from a freebie.
-
I never use fluoro with a knotless knot as i've had it go a couple of times due to the pressure exerted on the hooklink as it leaves the eye. Always use a palomar and a braid hair now if i feel the need to use fluoro which to be honest aint very often. Have to be honest and say a simple combi from a coated braid does for me most of the time.

Fantastic read, the work and effort he puts into his fishing is amazing. Found this book an inpiration to me and makes me want to get back out after a certain carp i've been targeting for years.
-
Best runrig is the Enterprise snag safe clips with any buffer bead
-
Not riggy on the mighty river Severn but then again only a few of us are mad enough to target so few fish in 220 miles of water so no pressure on them. I know that i wouldnt stand a chance using something like a size 10 with a decent fish and a strong flow on the Severn, give me a proper bit of steel in their gob any time.
-
River carp are simple creatures and not at all riggy. I use a nice strong size 4 hook, 25lb cortex link and what ever size running lead i need to hold in the flow. Rigs are about 10" long and that has caught me a few river carp over the years.

Coops and Bunn at Moorlands Fishery.... Wow!!
jemsue5 replied to coops_northants's topic in French Catch Reports
Coops has had a 46 half lin, Bunn had a 50+cat -
Why do you think they are more blatent to smaller carp and not just as blatent to larger fish. I've caught carp of all sizes on pop ups over the years but i do prefer bottom bait presentations for the majority of my fishing.

Just read that Bunn has had the lake record common at 44lb 14oz, well done mate. -
Enterprise tackle, they are brilliant for all running rigs. http://www.enterprisetackle.co.uk/terminalhtm/snagsafelead.htm

Would the bead slip over a sinker Jez? Not seen one in the flesh. I suppose it's not too much of an issue if the rig will 'pop' over the bead anyway same size as float stops just a bit heavier
-
Nige, just a thought for you. I use basically the same set up but instead of the float stop i've started to use one of the new Korda hooklink sinkers. Bit heavier than the float stops and they help to sink the line a little bit.
-
Just tied a few up with 15lb drennan crystal, nice and limp and seems spot on to me. I feel that if all we ever used was mono we would still catch the same amount of fish but we've been brainwashed into using braids etc and spending loads of money i mean look how many rigs you could tie from a £3 spool of 12 maxima
-
It most definately isnt as safe as any other leader. Best knot is the moores knot or a needle knot as far smaller and neater than a loop to loop. Best to use it with a helicopter or running lead rig as far safer than a leadclip. The loop to loop knot is the easiest to use and does make it easier to change leaders but i dont like it due to it being harder for beads etc to pass over it and for the loops to have a tendancy to clog up with silk weed etc making it even harder to eject rig components.

When you have removed DEAD teathered carp from snags attached to leadcore you really see the dangers of the stuff. One of my waters has banned leadcore for the above reason, six teathered fish in two years all on leadcore.

Has anyone thought of putting some putty on their rig tube?
jemsue5 replied to christoph22's topic in UK Rig Tying
I can see what you are saying but to me the ESP leaders supplied with a lead clip are one of the most dangerous products out there.
