  1. The way i look at is like this, i want the sharpest hook possible and the only way to get this is to sharpen them myself. Yes they dont last quite as long and the extra fine points i get might turn over a bit easier but so what a hook cost's pennies and the sort of waters i fish you want that hook to go in everytime you get a bite. Sharp hooks hook fish not 3 or 4 oz leads and a proper sharp hook is one of if not the biggest edge you can have.
  2. personally i think both are indespensible
  3. You rate them then Jez? I wasn't sure wether they were just another gimmick. Do you think youve picked extra fish up with them? I'm certain i have what i will say is once in they dont come out as easily so less hook pulls. You do end up scraping a few until you get used to the method of sharpening them but once mastered you will never use another hook out of the packet.
  4. I now sharpen every hook i use with the jag file and stones, the difference is amazing NO HOOK IS SHARP out of the packet you may think they are but they aint
  5. Loads of doubles with a few 20s, not surprised you blanked with a 10c drop in temps overnight.
  6. The lad in rod and gun was gutted mate so dont think that tale was made up. Over the years lots of problems up there, a disabled lad had 1000s worth nicked out his car a big thread on here about that one as well as reports in the press. Mate of mine had his lap top nicked out his bivvy after a few rocks chucked at his bivvy he legged some lads up the silkin way but obviously a diversion and some other twat has his laptop. Ive been shot at with air rifles while fishing with my lad a few years back. Was fishing the cliff side one day when half a house brick landed 3ft away from me in the margins, dont think i would be here now if the daft little sods had actually managed to hit me with it. I dont fish the place now so perhaps some of the scum bag crack heads from up randley have moved away but it will never be a 100% place to fish safely at night
  7. I was in Rod and Gun last week and i was told a lad had his rods and reels nicked from outside his bivvy couple of weeks back so be careful if on your own.
  8. 15" will be fine for the float or lead.
  9. way to short for float fishing at that length they will probably be designed for method feeder rigs.
  10. even if he said you could have them it would of been very doubtful that you would of got a section 30 movement order for them anyway.
  11. Have to agree with you thats it's deffo on the missing list. Have you seen any of the wildie type commons or have they gone as well?
  12. you will need a photobucket account or similar to do it on here. Will go add you on facebook now.Jez
  13. Doddington now syndi pretty sure cudmore nothing to do with any more. PAAS is the club to be in but 4 year waiting list Wheelock two year wait i believe
  14. It wasn't a big ghosty but a proper big orange Koi that was about 25lb last time out. Other than that all i know about are a few wildie type commons upto low doubles.
  15. Now this is only my personal opinion but the heli rig is by far the easiest for a beginer to make a balls up of more so if they go down the leadcore route. I really cant see past a running rog for 99.5% of my fishing.
  16. As far out as you can without interfering with swims 7 and 11
  17. Swim 8, its worth putting one down to the left off the reeds close in. Deepest part of the lake and they sometimes hold up there.
  18. With those hooks i would use a coated braid or attach the hooks to fluoro using a palomar knot and a softer material for the hair. Fox make a small widget of some sort for attaching hairs so these might be worth sorting out if you want to perservere with fluoro for hooklinks. One word of warning fluoro doesn't like loop knots such as figure 8 etc. The Best loop knot if you must use one is the rapala knot/improved loop knot which can be found on Krystons site i think.
  19. Use a hook with an out turned eye such as a choddy and a knotless knot should be fine. The other option is to use the flouro in a combi link with a braid or to attach it with a palomar knot to any hook you want and to use a separate material for the hair. As for the comment that you need a fluoro hooklink or the fluoro mainline is a waste thats totally off the mark. I use fluoro as my mainline because it sinks like a brick and is great for slacklining, that has nothing to do with the hooklength material at all which in my case varies dependant on what bait, hook rig i'm using at the time.
  20. All here http://www.larfordlakes.co.uk/index.php
