I used to use Gardener Insizor hooks for my PVA bag rigs on a 'german' rig. Now gone back to Drennan Super Specialist Wide gape hooks for my current style of fishing, short hook length on a very simple stiff knotless hair rig, just seems 'lighter' and tbh not had any problems with them at all. It's really what works for you I guess, just makes me think about how much people waste money on so much rig things too. After all, isn't a Chod rig actually just an old fashioned 'Helicopter' set up? But of course you need all the 'c**p' now to be a proper carp angler? Sorry, mini rant over. Just off to search for a pot of the latest £45 pot of hookbaits!!!! 😂😂☹️

I used big sea fishing reels to do the same job. as for line, well used to fork out for some 'Tryline'' maybe a typo stuff. However, bought some 15lb sea fishing line after and did exactly the same job and if you think about it, sea fishing line needs to be more abrasion resitant? Guessing you guys must be of a 'certain' age? Without going on and on about the old days (late 80's and 90's) but remember when an Argus bed chair and blanket were fine, might have said this before on a HorseShoe thread tho! Anyway, can see the way 'carp fishing' is or has gone now, it's big business for a lot of companies, I am not bothered about the latest super bedchair/bivvie/bait boat/rod/reel/ bait etc etc..... Sadly I feel the pastime I really loved in the past is now for the social media generation, sign of the times I know. As for me, now given up the use of boilies this season, I am doing purely a particle approach, have had a few and just feels nice to me to do something different for a change 👍

This is a tricky one to respond to. When I lived in Surrey - many years ago - there were 3 main tackle shops I used to visit and buy stuff from. KC Angling (Sutton): Long gone now and a very big help to me when as a Junior and match fished with LDAS club, Kenny Collins an absolute legend for help and advice, and also an England International Steve Gardner worked there too. Used to buy my Casters, maggots and hemp on a Saturday ready for fishing on Sunday. Gerrys of Wimbledon: An iconic shop, stocked everything at the time anyone could possibly want, prices were always top rate but the help advice was always great, I believe it has now been sold and a furniture store now? RoseHill Angling: Very small local shop, long since gone However: Cheam Angling: Still going strong I believe and moved across the road from it's tiny shop I remember it was. Do I use tackle shops? Very rarely now as tbh I don't need any more rods / reels / nets / alarms etc. I might nip in my local shop very rarely for hooks and a bit of a moan but obviously that won't keep them in buisness. It really needs a good web site, socials etc to keep the on street shops going I suspect? Having said that, Flea Bay, Amazon and a Google search brings up so many options for buying fishing stuff now

Yes it was, there were a few others in the South too - now closed Bury Hill springs to mind - 'any method Trout fishing' 😂 At that time the South West didn't have a close season I remember?

Early 90's again, at the time a working gravel pit very close to M25, remember Concorde used to pass overhead.... Noisy [censored]! 😃

Early 90's Broadlands lake

I went to club lake early morning today, had a few mid doubles close in under an overhanging tree, and one mid water too. By 12 o'clock was far too hot so packed up but enjoyed the fishing. Just a small thing tho, my Atts remote packed up mid session, tried to replace it with a Duracell AA rechargeable battery, blooming thing is actually slightly larger than a normal one so didn't fit!!☹️ Didn't stop me having a good day tho 👍 Take care in this heat all.

Not really mate, Remember fishing a lake on M25, near Wraysbury, back in the day, lots of old fish , and not known at the time. Sorry I didn't check catch reports from 2024 ,
