Only allowed to wade thigh high at the lake π. Luckily there's only one swan to contend with. It is strange how a swan doesn't seem to care about the lines (to bold) but the other water birds do.

Are you the inside man I'm looking for to gain secret access π§ π. I'd happily chat the farmers wife up for a day's fishingπ. I'd even make her a brew.
-
I know they're a river fish but can help get excited. Never seen a barbel never mind loads of them.

Making pop-ups is a whole different area I've not looked into properly yet but will look online and see what's around. Would you still use the rig for bottom baits like a few grains of maize or a boilie on a running set-up
-
Not fished with pop-ups that small. What size hook do you use for them on your multirig Food for thought. Got plenty of the stuff to use up along with a sack of goat feed(vitalin replacement) and a sack of cut maize(misses got the cut instead of full maize π€·π½ββοΈ). Ill try something different on one rod away from the particles.

The ones containing aniseed seems to be what most people's are throwing in at the current venue I'm "trying to fish" and I've never seen anyone catch a carp from this venue(I've only had 3 all year so far)so I thought I'd try and use something without it and maybe the simple switch to no aniseed might be enough to trick a few to grub down π€·π½ββοΈ. I have a bag of aniseed here and plan add some during boiling when I next boil some up and test them both out at the same time after a few sessions trying the plain stuff.

Whilst out wandering came across a nice little pond about 2 acres. After sitting for only a few mins I seen what I thought was a nice size barbel break the surface ever so elegantly. Few mins later a carp crashes out the water. It must have been a easy 20. I sat for a hour n watched and it looked to be packed with barbel(had my glasses πΆοΈ π€). I was getting really excited now as nowhere local to fish them or I've never caught 1. I skipped away to the car excited to have a fish there n catch a few carp n barbell. After a quick Google at the car and it not giving up any info I used my powers of deduction to work out which farm it belonged to. After knocking the door a lovely old lady comes out and quite keenly tells me to come back 9:30am. Now I'm really excited. Turned up back at the farm to chat to Mr farmer man who was nice enough I suppose who tells me... Yes it's his pond but the pond is privately rented and the person renting it wouldn't allow me on there, but yes there's definitely barbel but he's not sure on the carp(defo saw them aswell) Absolutely gutted π. Think I'm gonna put a friendly letter through his door asking if he would pass my info on. Looks like a hush hush syndicate.

Have to spend a week near Devon early autumn. She's agreed a few days fishing n a few days staying somewhere not fishing related( 5 days fishing & 2 somewhere else I think π€πΌπ ). She also doesn't want to do stay in the bivvy so been looking at pavyotts mill as they got sheds to put the beds in and are reasonably priced compared to alot of places with carp & accommodation. I've seen a few old threads with not so good comments. From what I understand the latest owners are alot better than previous ones. Has anyone had any experience with the place not looking for hear say / rumours just looking for people honest experience and maybe some advice if anyone has any. Thanks

Good to hear your feeling better n upto to getting out on the bank, or should I say out in the water lol. Tight lines fella
-
Thanks @yonny & @salokcinnodrog. Need to buy some braid then I'll be doing as you both suggest n spending a day or two annoying everyone casting a lead n float around
-
Don't realise how much until you started listening it all
-
Yeah I guessed that lol. Defo a few hours of leading around done there. I watched a few videos and on some it gave away gravel bars and a weed bed.
-
Wow that's detailed. I looked at Google earth pro but it never gave away anything except how much the rushes has taken over part of the pond. I need to get the hang of using a marker rod.

I tie the slip d with a knotless knot like the one on the right but I add a thinking anglers grub kicker(they seem pretty stiff) and a bit of putty about a inch down. I've never tried to tie a combi multi rig / slip d multi rig probably because it's easier to tie plain slip d and TBF all the biggest fish ive caught has been on it snowman style. I did make a few ronnie slip D's but I used shrink tubing since the kettles always on lol. Not thrown them in the water yet though.

Cheers guys. It's a nicely priced too compared to the haiths red brand

Hey everyone looking to get a sack for spodding. Hopefully something without aniseed if that's possible. Anyone got any recommendations Thans

Think it might have been but didn't bring my scales so I'll never know

Bit of a frustrating session today. Reel packed in, Landed up snapping a rig in a tree, bending a hook fighting a common and last but of all out of the dramas I hooked a seagull. What a fight on the bank that was to get the hook out(literally only turned around to turn the kettle off n he dive bombed my surface rig). Then along came the geese aswell so had to give up with surface fishing and just sit there watching all the nice nice fish cruising around the surface. Went in search of a few mirrors, lost count of fish after a mix of around 30 f1s, commons & crucians but as for the mirrors I went hoping to catch only managed to land the brute in the picture somehow on a size 6 fang π€£πͺπΌ Instead of a 20lb mirror I got a 1lb mirror π€£ππ€£

What gift is suitable for a friend who loves fishing?

Hope the last half the year is better for you. Get well soon

TBF I never collected them myself neither. My dad collected them. They're definitely worth revisiting if you can find them.

Mines probz not complete as only got 5 folders. It's like a encyclopedia of fishing. Picked up a little tip about using paste on the hook from 1970s. Bit of bread crust on the hook then mould the paste around that but best of all I like the club rules especially rules 5 & 6

Anyone remember these. Tired of watching the likes of korda masterclasses lol, so gonna have another look through these. Its been over 20yrs since they were last opened. Either gonna learn something new or remember something old.
