  1. They are a nice fish, alot nicer in the water lol. They almost look prehistoric if you ask me. I'm getting the hang of it. It's also alot easier with the barbs crushed. 10.50lb was my last one. That's the problem I have. There none around locally. Shame really
  2. Cheers. Yeah I use anti tangle sleeves where ever possible. Made some up at 7" & 10"
  3. Only had a few sessions for pike on lures but prefer the fish without teeth. Well big sharp teeth anyway as carp do have teeth
  4. Took the kids on holiday in a caravan about 10yrs ago and managed to catch a 4lb perch on a tiddler perch. The greedy git wasn't even hooked just wouldn't let go of the little perch lol I'd really like to catch a barbel or few(never caught one). Don't even have to be monsters lol. They're amazing fish.
  5. Thanks Elmo. Will have to order some (what do you recommend). I've only got semi stiff braid and fluro. I've made the spinner type rigs with 20lb fluro. They shouldn't get tangled. Stringers was the plan with 24mm boilies for when I finally get on the bank. Feel like I not been in months but it's only been around 2 weeks lol
  6. Welcome along fella. No doubt you'll be smashing that PB soon with the wealth of knowledge on here. Tight lines
  7. Hey 👋🏼, good luck in starting out with the carping. Over here we use relatively light tackle compared to gar fishing or shark fishing ect. There's no need to use things like steel traces. They have really soft mouths so they have to be played a little more carefully. The teeth they do have (pharyngeal teeth) are back in they're throat and more like human molars for crushing food items so no need to worry about steel traces. The aim is to make your rig look as inconspicuous as possible under the water. Rods are generally around 2.5lb - 3.5lb test curve Size 4 - 12 hooks depending on size of carp we are targeting. Most lakes around the UK don't hold many large fish(fish over 30lbs) Wide gape & curve shank being 2 popular hook types. Usually barbless or micro barbed so the fish has as little damage / stress as possible and can be unhooked / put back swiftly and safely after a pic or 2 if it's a nice one lol Hook lengths are usually around 12lb - 25lb and usually braid or fluorocarbon. Might want to go heavier if your fishing for 40lb+ fish. Hope this helps. Would be cool to see a few mexican carp Tight lines & Wet nets
  8. Welcome along Jay
  9. I've used a size 4 fang and a size 6 floater claw. 🤞🏼 Not really the venue to be testing new rigs but nothing ventured nothing gained
  10. That's my attempt at something a bit bream unfriendly, going to tie some chods when I get 5 later. I've not put bait on them yet and set the hook beads and below is my 22mm &24mm gob stopper rigs
  11. What size Ronnie you use with the smaller pop-ups was thinking size 5 claw
  12. So doesn't really matter about size of popup as even if the bream are hovering up the freebies the popup is generally out of they're way. Would you say short or long chods. As mentioned above I'm a total newb to using the chod. My catch rate 😂. It can't drop too much more at this venue lol. It's better than most people's catch rate but only had 3 carp this year so far 🤞🏼
  13. The carp don't give them selves up very often. I'd never fished there but heard loads about how people were blanking for years so had to see what the challenge was. I think your right about the bream being the predominant species. I've been told there's some proper slabs in there. It's about 17 acres surely I can find a spot where they're not happy going. I'll try n knock up something like a Ronnie claw(floater claw) n some chods(never used but have all the stuff) in-between 1-2", they should be crude enough and I'll just try some donkey choking gob stoppers for bottom bait with a stringer What would you recommend feeding if I'm using a chod. I've not got a large popup with matching large boilies
  14. Thanks guy, I was fishing with a snowman 20mm bottom and 15mm top(foam inside to help balance the bait) that's why I'm thinking of going double 24mm I've already stopped with particles, crush and other small freebies. They've found the PVA bags no problem. I've had the things in all over the lake.
  15. Hey everyone what rigs do you all use when you know theres a good head of bream and roach n rudd in the venue. I usually use a slip d rig, kd rig or standard hair rig but mainly the slip d rig with size 6 mugga(caught me all my PB's 💪🏼). Problem I'm having is the bream are tangling the hair. Was thinking a swivel directly to the hook shank with a hook bead opposite where the barb should be 🤷🏽‍♂️. Just worry the hook won't sit on the ground as the baits are so big. I'll be fishing double 24mm. They still try and have a go at the 20mm. Please help, they're driving me mad. Thanks
  16. I be clicking by now lol. I tell the better half I need to go coz it keeps me sain 😂.
  17. Bet the walk for the car is more pleasurable lol. I could do with a fishing shed. Mines spread out abit. Most of its in the shed but there a fair few bits lying round the house. I've got my 2man bivvy under my bed lol
  18. Wow that's some supply of sticky. When the misses next tell me I'm buying to much bait I'll just use this in my defense I think. I'll also tell her look he needs a shed for all his bait 😁.
  19. Funny enough I went back to using stickys active manilla n had 3 nice fish out of the venue on it. 1 of them being a really nice 1.
  20. Well done on the catch dude. Nice fish. I've just started fishing a difficult water that fish don't come out of very often and never had no confidence in them as they were new, maybe I should've given them a fair go 🤷🏽‍♂️. Think I'll give them another try when the waters warmed abit more on a few smaller waters. Know of a few local waters that if I don't get a busy day then they'll be going in the bin
  21. Yeah they got a really strong marzipan scent but not found them powdery they're nice n soft ATM. That might soon change after a few sessions when the sun decides to make a appearance 🤷🏽‍♂️
  22. In a response from a complaint I made they stated they've removed they're products from stores due to problems with out of date products being sold so to combat that they now only sell direct. I purchased 5kg creme seed with matching wafter and glug but not even had a bite, swapped over bait n had 3 nice fish from a tough venue

    Snowman help

That's how I done it using mono and seemed okay(only tested 1 cast). Landed up moving spots as there was a guy in the direct opposite swim from me spoding n spoding

    Snowman help

Thanks looked at these for popups but they're not suitable to secure the foam in the cored out boilie of the top bait.
