  1. As soon as the fish start pairing up I pull off the water and won't go back for a week or so after they've spawned... the old close season is out of date... and as we all know water temp and conditions are the key drivers... I think its incumbent on all owners and managers of waters to spot the signs and close the water off as soon as they start pairing up... its only common sense
  2. Back leads... you have to backlead on a canal otherwise the boats will wipe you out every time
  3. Went out round some club lakes this morning... took the two photos while walking round the waters.... those two were taken next to an "out of bounds" section of one of them... all the fish were sitting up there while 20 odd blokes were lashing the water with every method under the sun...
  4. There used to be one called Meatimix... very heavy... if you want to make the balls get to the bottom without breaking up get yourself a bag of PV1 Collant Binder... a cup of binder to a bag of groundbait will get it down to swims about 6 feet without breaking up... another way is to "Skin up" your groundbait balls by forming them with dry hands first and then wetting your hands and squeezing the balls again to put a slick skin on your groundbait...
  5. Cheers... the Mother in Law insisted I keep standards up... yes those are sugar tongs😜🤣
  6. The Chase, Carpology Social, have to keep up standards dontcherknow
  7. simply brilliant...👍 Thanks for posting
  8. Have a look at Okuma and Sonik... both have good reps and a bit cheaper than Shimano's and Daiwas... that said Second hand Shimano's off the bay of E is a way forward
  9. Addendum ( too late to edit) I had the plain X Lite... not the recliner... I moved it on to my young padawan last year to get him started
  10. I did... I moved it on a year ago and bought the Aeronium
  11. JRC X Lite Korum Aeronium Both in the 2.5- 3 kilo range and damn comfy both also clip onto the Korum Rucksacks for ease of transportation
  12. Nash Sirens seem to get good reports too (can't remember if its the 3's or 5's though... the expensive ones) a buddy won a set and he's over the moon with them... used them for half the season, autumn, winter and start of spring and he's in love with them
  13. My last pair of bins cost nearly £400... I have to have special prisms god knows how much a pair of these bad boys cost... even using old frames is a mickey take as they charge £75 to put new lenses into old frames... bit of a rip off really..... add in the cost of those lenses and it's going to be prohibitive
  14. Spent a wee while searching as my prescription is up this year... came across these... https://www.transitions.com/en-us/why-transitions/the-technology/variable-polarization/
  15. I had a pair of glasses made up by Specsavers and they were next to useless... they had forgotten to install the prisms into the lens .... I went back to my optician and she sorted my glasses for me, I'll always use a proper optomerist/optician, my eyes are precious.... on the offchance, does anyone know if it's possible to get polarised reactolite lenses yet... swapping glasses is a pain and I always lose the clip ons
  16. Have you tried "Puckoon"...?
  17. Have a go at Ian M Banks's "The Culture" books... great sci-fi in the same vein as the foundation books... (Don't confuse with Ian Banks... (same person) he uses the 'M' to differentiate between his crime novels under the name Ian Banks)
  18. If its out on Amazon as a kindle edition you can read a sample of some books... as far as I know its not out yet... some question as to when
  19. I too had trouble getting through it... his new book "Winterwalk" is supposed to be coming out this year... maybe.... To be honest, if its the same vein as Nightwalk I may give it a miss...
  20. hence the point of a lead clip and heavier lead... a sharp hook just needs to prick the fish to cause it to bolt off... the heavier lead will pull the hookpoint in further despite the point diameter... especially a long tapered point...
  21. whereas I'll freeline a whole prawn on a size 2 or 4, it's about matching your bait to your hooksize... a size 6 in a whole king prawn is lost.... especially as it's not hair rigged
  22. yeah okay.... In your own opinion
