    Bivvy Death

Sorry to hear your bad news Nick. Carbon Monoxide is known as "The Silent Killer" as it is odourless and as you breathe in, it makes you sleepy. As you sleep, you breathe in more and the concentration increases. Oxygen is readily attached to the blood and released, CO holds on 400 times more strongly and blocks the Oxygen from attaching and you die. I would never use a bivvy heater, candle system or cook inside. If it is that cold that you think that you need external heat sources, go home, the fish ain't feeding!

To be honest ( if it was me) I'd put a bit of foam rubber in the butt eye and leave the bale open... slackening off the clutch so it spins on a take will impart twist into the line... looks ace though...👍

    January catch report

Here's my first fish of the year. Was -4 to start the session. Had a run, lifted into it but nothing on the end( thinking small fish with just bait in its mouth ). Then for the next few hours I could see my line pulling tight n slackening back off but not actually taking. Turns out pva wasn't melting (my mix of condensed milk and manilla being over cooked n like caramel stopping the PVA dissolving)(first time trying condensed milk). About 4pm I seen a fish show to the right of me, nowhere near where I was fishing so I quickly boshed a chod together and within 30mins, boom, fish on. Managed to land a 17.32 mirror saving me a blank. Not massive but always nice to get a winter carp

    Bivvy Death

I got a phone call from a friend today about a close mate of ours who was found dead in his bivvy in the past week. The Cobb was on in his bivvy, and it looked like the angler had fallen asleep in his chair sat upright. From the description, another sad case of carbon monoxide poisoning. Another friend called me about it, asking if I had heard. I actually had a bit more info about the Cobb than Mark, but he had seen a YouTube video where in tests with a Carbon Monoxide detector in a zipped up bivvy, the fatal level with Cobb briquettes or pellets is reached in around 10minutes, a standard gas stove will reach fatal levels in 30minutes. An experienced angler, who took a chance and sadly paid the price. The thing with any level of carbon monoxide is that it makes you feel tired and can send you to sleep, so you simply never wake up. Please please, forget bivvy heaters, stoves on inside a zipped up bivvy and go for decent clothing and sleeping bag instead.

    Bivvy Death

I think it had reached a lot of people already mate, seen it on my feed by a few different groups and people are continuing to share it 👍👍 I've got 2 hot water bottles in my hold all just incase it gets a bit too cold 👍 seems to be a bit of thing now where people wanna be sat in a toasty bivvy only wearing shorts/t shirt while it's freezing outside 👎

    Bivvy Death

I have shared the post almost word for word on my Facebook timeline and messaged it to some high profile friends, CarpWorld and Carpology. I purposely haven't named the angler as family need some time, respect and respite. Just after getting that phone call I got another one, another friend died at the lake from a suspected heart attack. He'd started packing up, felt rough as he got back to the car, phoned a friend to get help, and the friend found him in the drivers seat.

    Bivvy Death

Sorry for your loss nick. It might be worth sharing this on places like Facebook etc as there's a lot of people flooding the carp groups asking about heaters and I'm sure a lot of them don't realise the dangers 👎

there was no need for slack drag orfoam on an open bail, the bobbin on the bank stick was not in use as i was fishing with a stick float

  12. I’ve got a set of Fox Horizon X3-s 12ft 3.5lb tc rods, you’ll pick them up new for £98 each, (I don’t think they’ve been out long) they’re pretty stiff, they will cast far further than I’ll ever need! They’re coupled with fox eos 12000 reels and Diawa tournament line in 18lb test, the diameter is pretty thin for a line of this strength, it will send a 3.5 or 4oz lead lovely. downside is I feel like I’ve got 3 beachcasters balancing on the Neville’s 🙄 it’s a balance though, I still use my 3lb fox torques for a lot of sessions, but they won’t do the distance the horizons will, not in my hands anyway
