I agree on everything you said mate, except for the above quote. Some bits of kit end up worse than the original versions..... It really is "Emperors new clothing" mindset with all the marketing hype..... I've always said, look after any older kit as best you can... Can be difficult to replace like for like..... This is why we always hear sponsors saying "we must get more youngsters into the sport", IMO, there are very few people left that continue falling for the spiel, once bitten, twice shy. They need the youngsters to fall for their shiny ads..... As you say, just in time for Christmas...…. So called upgrades and new products used to be a generational thing, now it seems it's every six months.... When they say "We've spent loads of time developing and sourcing for this ground breaking "must have" bit of bankside kit", translate that into lay mans terms, equates to "We've found some other factory that will do it cheaper, so we changed it slightly"..... My mk2 Tracker rod sleeve I bought recently, is a cheap knock off of there first one, hence the grumpy old man rant...🤩1 point

The black ops stuff has just been discontinued for the new range on sale soon. Cleverly just before Christmas of course! All the big names ‘re-design’ their kit and improve it. But sold the first version on the basis it was the best ever!!1 point

I have been fishing since i was 5, Im now 31, I have never had my rod licence checked. I always buy it, because you know that i will be having the session of my life when they turn up and kick me off!1 point -
I have been fishing for just over a year and have had my licence checked once and this morning whilst walking round Baden Hall eight people were done for not having a licence. One guy had booked on for a week paying around £200 and probably had around £1500-£2000 of kit but wouldn't shell out £30 odd quid for a licence, I just don't get it!1 point

A day ticket water local to me got to the stage of one of the bailiffs being a local dealer, and some anglers who weren't involved being robbed for their tackle. Police were regularly at the lake sorting issues out! I know a lot of anglers on my season ticket lakes like a little puff, and again now the Lea Valley rangers are stamping down on it, along with Eastern Europeans using the venue as a picnic and swimming site, leaving their litter behind. My local park lake, it used to be a place where I could let my kids fish by themselves, then the 'puffers' started turning up and kids had tackle stolen. Now on both the Lea Valley and the park I would not fish without my dog. I would not let my children go on their own. Greekski mentioned bailiffs. In East Anglia, it was one full time bailiff covering Suffolk and Norfolk, then he retired. I have not yet seen his replacement. I say Norfolk, you consider the Western edge of Norfolk is fenland, butting onto Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, then you have the Suffolk and Norfolk Broads many of which are boat access only. I used to get two reminders for my licence, now it is just one, and I saved the cost of two licences with the three rod job. Clubs are also in decline; waters being lost to day tickets or syndicates, lack of membership numbers. That puts children off, not all can afford day ticket money every week. I used to buy my son his club ticket once a year, not a problem, yet paying £10 every week for what was £50 a season... The waters themselves, my local club had specimen roach, tench, bream and perch. Now those fish are few and far between. Another issue is travel to waters. I used to walk or cycle to my waters, 7mile cycle ride at times, a walk of a couple of miles. You can't do that with carp gear, and due to my ex and my estrangement, or even work I could not take my children every weekend. Saying all that, Alton Water has started fishing well again, for roach and other fish, including the occasional carp.1 point -
my opinion? for what its worth, 1) tackle companies are ripping people off, why? cos they can. 2) carp anglers are nowhere near as friendly as the old guys, they are more likely to be rude, ignorant or just sarky, or even know it all (which is worse imo) and 3) most millennials and their offspring have lost the hunter gatherer Gene and are too money shy as they need to pay for a house first. *****the above statement is the opinion of the author and in no way reflect the policies/religion of the site owners*****1 point

I laugh at these people who say they haven't had their licence checked in years, for 5 years on the trot I was checked at least once a year on various waters. In Suffolk on the Park Lake when I still had Post Office receipt, then in Dobbs Weir and around a month later at Nazeing. Is fishing in decline? I think to some extent carp fishing is, thank goodness, maybe partly due to the older genuine anglers getting fed up of the current bull of the carp record, which I think before long will not exist due to the legal imports, what weight a fish is stocked at, grown on, basically the Big Rig scenario or even a dubious import like Oak Lodge and the catfish record. It was silly for a record to go from 50lb to 108lb, someone was bound to take notice! Is that licence sales or licence money? One carp angler buys a 3 rod licence now, instead of two 2 rod licences, which counters both the decline in licence sales and money. I think other 'disciplines' are on the increase, I for example now do more fishing for other species than I used to. From 1992 to 2010, I pretty much fished only for carp. Yet now I am back chasing roach, pike and other species. However as a whole there are fewer younger anglers coming into fishing. The joys of X-box, PS4 etc, take them away from an outdoor life, as does the fewer male parents (in most cases) taking their sons (and daughters) fishing. In addition to that, there is still a 'push' towards carp fishing, yet a youngster blanks and the kit does a trip into the cupboard never to cone out again. If they were catching fish, like roach and perch then they would want to continue going. Don't forget children under 12 don't have to pay for a rod licence at all. I also bet bet a few 3 rod set-ups include the 'sons rod'...1 point -
I'd take absolutely no notice whatsoever of what ever comes out of Ali H's mouth or any other commercial angler in regards to fish safety..... Seen a few and heard of many times where fish are retained for unnecessary lengths of time, whilst waiting for the Gimp, sorry, photographer, to arrive... Only for the poor stressed out creature to be then, kept out of the water for far too long a time, so the gimp can get enough shots off.. Followed by the immortal words on camera...… "Now let's get her back in the water as quick as we can"...…… .. 😀1 point

I know someone who has absolutely ruled using huge donkey chokers, but a 10 lb carp can still suck in a boilie the size of a golf ball.1 point

I agree Vik. There'a not much you can do to put little'n's off. When I was a lad I spent too much time trying to single out bigger fish in waters full of smaller carp. It took me too long to realise that the best way to catch bigguns is to fish water with bigger fish in!1 point

Yep. And the worst thing was I booked Monday off work to do a day down the local for probably the last time this year and I came down with a bug Sunday night so couldn't even go.0 points

Little grumble from me to whoever is supposed to be delivering my little bait freezer...……………………. Get your bloomin skates on, I waited in all day yesterday when you should have delivered, now wasted most of today so far...… Should be on the bank now, but gonna need a few hours to sort kit out, which isn't at my home...… Can't really leave the house either, or just blow it out, as I have a pile of bait that needs freezing...….. This week was planned with military precision .. lol... Not anymore....😃0 points
