  1. Today
  2. Got to the canal a couple hours ago, just had a bream lol, first night under the stars in ages, feels great. Best of luck to anyone on the bank this weekend πŸ€™
  3. Also ,if you travel into the hallowed county/country on the old A30 ,that's along Jeff Rowes ,old night club ,you will see a string of deep quarries ,some of which were stocked by Peter Mohan ,CAA and Cypry the Carp Author ,some of those quarries held fish from his time distributing carp all around that area .. wether age and predation killed those remaining fish off,I don't know...however ,unbelievable as it is ,my long term fishing mate at the time ,bought and lives in ex quarry managers house, right next to a deep pit ,and that does hold decent History fish ,although its margins are steep and the depths still have remains of tools and crib hut.. It's fascinating history ,I can confirm also that there are still places around that hold those special Leneys ,100%...
  4. @emmcee. lovely looking fish, glad there are still some around πŸ‘. @salokcinnodrog Frensham ponds still on a Farnham angling club ticket, sadly as you say had a massive fish kill and tbh the big lake is now just unfishable, even if you wanted to in summer as rammed with swimmers and tourists. Used to be a lake near there many years ago that was an old skool venue tho, think Andy Little used to fish there??
  5. I was trying to think of the name of Frensham Ponds, that's the subject of Chris Ball's chapter in Big Carp, I'll Let you Be in my Dreams. He had gotten the stocking records from Chris Yates. Sadly hit by a fish kill after a stocking of new fish.
  6. The last time I spoke to Tony (2 or 3 yrs ago now) he still did base mix and the odd bit of rolled bait, maybe he still is if you really wanted some. Like you ive still got my premier clothing , hoodie in my case. Was a top bait firm in my opinion. My mate has gone over to ABS bait with Geoff bowers so if you still want premier bait then its pretty much identical.
  7. There are certainly some still around. My old syndicate lake had 4 known originals in it when I fished there, all from an original stocking of Leney's. As far as I'm aware they are all still in there, I stopped fishing there 5 yrs ago but I still chat to mates on there and the usual one was caught last year and the most sought after one came out this spring. Some members had been on there years trying to catch one but luckily for me my second fish from the lake was one and the most sort after one at that when I fished there. I had it in 2017 and it was 50yrs old then. It wasn't caught last year but made an appearance this spring so still going strong at 58yrs old. Another lake that may well hold some original Leney's is Frensham ponds.
  8. Funnily enough I am still using an Aqua rod sling. I mentioned it earlier in this thread, the bait market became saturated, from one man bands to bait companies and the big difference in costs. If a tackle shop is buying boilies at Β£7.99 per kilo then to be sensible they will have to sell at Β£11.99. If an angler is buying direct at Β£7.99 then they won't be buying from the tackle shop. It is an ever decreasing circle. I suppose I am as guilty as anyone in that, although in my defence I was originally field testing rather than just getting discount. It is where there was the 'big split' with tackle brands, or bait companies selling only to shops, ( or rolling companies) or those that chose to sell direct, and to compete one man bands went straight to anglers.
  9. Sadly, I suspect no true Leneys now exist.... I still have this 'romantic' notion that there are still undiscoverd / ultra private waters where they do tho πŸ™‚ I used to correspond 'email' years ago with a bloke who actually knew Chris Yates and he mentioned the Leney stock records, it started with my mention of a certain surrey water who Yates had 'guested' on and he lived near the place and knew nothing about it, probably mentioned the place on here but a deff no no for visits or fishing tho now!
  10. There were quite a few waters stocked with fish purchased from the Redmire spawning explosion in the 70's and early 80's. I don't think any of the fish did as well as the original Redmire stocked fish which was a very good year, but they did have the looks.
  11. Lidsters portable loo....!! Game changer ,as some places don't have a loo..!
  12. I also used to make my own for a very long time ,I lost count of how many companies I used to use ,flavour ,dips etc .. It was good fun at the time, now I use a local bait firm ,I just phone them up ,and pick it up straight from the rollers/factory ...gave my bait making stuff to my son..! I still got a bag of 20mm citruz I use for hookbaits only in winter.. I reckon the whole carp industry could suffer a downturn ,I'm not being horrible but it's constant wheel reinvention and upping the tc of rods..unnecessarily..for example to make sales, for sales sake ..but Nash ,does have kudos for various trends or tackle innovation, like scope, oval brolly ,titans etc ...on past times But then Chris Manifold took the innovation a whole lot further..
  13. I used to fish a fantastic little complex ,it was rumoured to have been stocked by Surrey trout farm /Donald leney.. Anyway I got in contact with Chris Ball ( RIP) ,who a member of my family got to know, and asked about this place ,'was there any recorded stocking from Mr Leney '..he couldn't help me ,and said Chris Yates might know as he had the stocking records ,turns out Mark Walsingham had them due to ,at the time the Bernithian Court was being sorted out ,Redmire..and there was no mention of that stocking ..The original owner was said to have mentioned that's where his Carp came from in the mid to lake 70s .. I was fortunate to have done very well on this place ,multiple captures and repeats, and kept lots of 35mm self takes. Now it's been sadly sold and turned into yet another grim tourist venue ,known as Stone Rush,if you look at the aerial view on maps ,the bigger first lake in the valley ,the last 'orrid'lodge by the inflo ,was my favourite swim ..all the fish did look like Redmire fish ...who knows..?
  14. Lovely looking Leney, they were deff something special πŸ‘
  15. Yesterday
  16. I have a Leney from Redmire that as a baby made its way to Norfolk. The excessively successful spawning of the Redmire fish, with other originals, many of the netted fish were sold off to various buyers across the country.
  17. Ah, see what you mean now πŸ‘ Even the Leney Carp originally came from Holland, I believe, and used to be predominat in Horseshoe Lake in the 90's, now sadly long gone, they were lovely looking fish and one of the reasons I used to make a silly amount of miles to fish for them. πŸ™‚
  18. Feral carp reverting towards the original wildie type have what is referred to as a Danubian Notch. However true wildies don't have it. I think it is like the straight head to the body, whereas bred carp have a slight dip.
  19. Roughtor, Not sure what the 'danubian notch' is? I get to Kernow twice a year, mainly to chill from stuff, last time I found a small lake rammed with smallish carp, lovely time catching on floaters and only one fishing there, obviously not wildies but long lean and so hard fighting and no mouth damage πŸ‘ Good to fish somewhere with no bivvie city and carp idiots πŸ˜ƒ
  20. Last week
  21. As @framey says you will get loads of answers. In Asia I don't know what boilies you have or can get, and are likely to be different companies available to those in UK. I seem to remember you asking about bait recipes and had a bait around 30% protein which is about right.
  22. You will get loads of different answers and still be confused. Scrub that I see you are in Asia not sure what baits you can ge too I will have a look
  23. Hello, what is the best company's boilie that you use for summer and did you get a good answer? What is it and which company is it for? Apart from Mainline products, please tell me everything that is OK. Thank you.
  24. Cast One ridge more monkey ? πŸ’πŸ˜‚
  25. I also used to make my own baits back in the day when you had to. i can’t be bothered to make them so I go to baitworks now as I like the ethos of the whole business. i happily pay what ever it says in the shopPing trolley I don’t want or ask for any further discounts or to beholden to any company for tackle or bait I buy and use what I deem the BEST for the purpose that I need at the time. happy to use almost any tackle company from A-Z apart from 2 one that starts with O as I don’t like their company ethos and the other I haven’t bought any from since they started blaming customers for incorrect use of their flame thrower stoves. i do own a few Nash products but yep they seem to have lost their way. was watching someone use one of their bushwhackers yesterday and it went out miles lol
  26. Seriously been thinking about this. Nash bait, well did very well back in the day with ready mades when from memory was only competing against Richworth and maybe a few others? I used them a few times, not to bad tbh. Times have changed, they have been so much overtaken by sooo many bait firms, can't compete. Also the whole Nash brand I suspect will now do a nose dive, Alan Blair, that Jamie bloke, Carl and Alex. etc etc on social media will eventually die a death, tbh if I was the bloke I would sell the lot at his age and just retire with his own lake to fish. As an old git I actually don't care anymore about these old firms...... except the demise of Premier Baits who actually sent me a free T Shirt, which I wore for many a pic πŸ™‚
  27. Also used 'active' ingredients in PVA bags too, ground mixer and, I think 'Bakers' soft dog biscuits, bung them in the bag with a few mini pellets and squirt in lots of hemp / fish oil. As I have got into a season of method feeder fishing now, I am fiddling about with that but the dry / oil ingredients certainly work in a bag.... and so much cheaper too!
  28. I would say that Rod was one of the finest (carp fishing) writers / story tellers I have read, certainly a big influence on me. Still have a copy of 'The Carp Strikes Back', so much info in there and also great tales of the older days too, must dig it out again πŸ‘
