Seems to be line strength as opposed to knot strength. Interesting though

Hi fellows, I am glad somebody responded to my post As a youngster, before the Internet, I only knew the Fisherman's Knot, so I used that. It was not a bad knot, but certainly not as well structured as some of the high-end knots available. As a young adult I switched to the Palomar Knot, this was when the Internet was just starting to become popular, so I found this new knot. I have never used the Double Palomar Knot, but I understand that it is stronger than the original Palomar Knot. Some of you may have heard about the Knot Wars videos published around 2008 to 2010 by Berkley Fishing. My understanding is the Berkley Braid Knot beat the previous years winner the Fish-N-Fool Knot in this championship video. π± I do agree with salokcinnodrog that testing knots with monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid may cause different results, but the top several knot contenders should remain the same regardless of line type. I am surprised that no one has done a new Knot Wars type video with different line types and knots! Seems like something someone would be interested in doing out there in Internet land βοΈ Thank you, CZ πΎ

Nice, I found I was foot tapping, got anymore ?

Different lines work best with different knots, although the Palomar is one of the most efficient. I use various knots, Rapala loop knot, Clinch/Uni knot, or half blood knot. Amnesia works best with a 3turn blood knot, although for other lines I have found 4 or 5 turns best. Gardner Pro I always do a 5 turn Clinch knot, where Sensor gets a blood knot. Braids for hooklinks get a Clinch knot, while on hooklinks where I need a loop, it is the loop knot.

A bit like American Football absolutely boring.

Twice through the eye grinner great knot I would say slide the knot down to the eye rather than pull it like the video

How come this politician doesn't get slapped with Β£1200 fine for fishing without a rod licence??? He can afford it. Them & us. Always has been

Hi fellows, Is the consensus that the Fish-N-Fool Knot is best or is just hype and there are better knots? Thanks, CZ

That was one of my bug bears on Nazeing Lagoons, leaving the gear unattended was not recommended when walking around. Having to walk Sky would not be a relaxing experience on there. At least on my current lake it is safe. I have had a phone call from my dad having a problem, reeled in, driven to his and taken him to the doctors, then gone back to the lake. I struggle with staying or moving, I probably split the two 50/50. The numbers of times I see fish move onto a spot after 48hours. "Oh, you need washed out baits", not if the fish aren't even coming onto the bait or into the area for a day at least. Taverham got like that; the Friday night bait up, and fish would avoid the spot until Sunday. Fish were obviously caught at the weekend, usually to small traps, but not so many over bait. I've had numbers of fish from baits left in place for 2 days, not even reeled in, not something I can do now obviously. If I move onto the fish I see, it's nearly always a single or a bag or stringer. No point in piling it in and potentially spooking them.

I guess you can't teach effort, energy and enthusiasm which the best have in bucket loads. I met a few very keen younger anglers this spring thought there was gonna be too much competition, but thankfully not seen any of them since - talked a good game then the blanks kicked in. Sadly there's been a tackle theft on one of the lakes this year so leaving the kit for laps has become a bit risky so I either check the nearby swims or put the valuables back in the car and do a lap. Moving is exciting you've found something and a fresh new plan comes into play, but sometimes staying put and giving it an extra night is the one - but I struggle with that one.

lovely fish good luck again

There have been a few about. I think that what saves this stretch is actually how busy with people it can be, and the otters don't get the chance to settle. They have had some of the chub, perch and pike, but with so many paddleboarders and kayakers going in and out near the mill and car park, fish are given a refuge. I'm there again tonight, so we'll see if the chub are about again.

I know exactly what you mean. I sit in the bivvy extension with my binoculars almost pinned to my eyes. A couple of years ago I was opposite someone on the syndicate and at dusk saw a fish roll at the end of the island. It was closer to him than to me, but not a spot he could reach as an overhanging willow prevented him casting there, so I launched a big boy cast around 120metres. First thing in the morning I had a 23lb common. Next thing I've seen him wade out to in front of the willow, around 15metres, and try to put a bait where I had the fish from. I hate moving, it hurts, but again, I had 2 blank nights over a prebaited spot, so moved to the actual swim the angler above was in, only 100metres to my right, and flicked a bag under the willow, that lead to a 20lb mirror. The fact that the move took 3 hours and was a nightmare, the fish made up for it. Every day I do walk around the lake, both for fish hunting and for Sky's benefit, and if I have to, will move. Funny though, frequently I will see fish somewhere else, get ready to pack up and move, then they start showing in front of where I am. I've got a couple of three sets of scales, a small set of digital luggage scales for chub and roach, my Grandeslam scales for carp and pike and a set of flyweights that live in the car just in case. The flyweights have weighed a few thornbacks up to 7lb as well as stalked chub and carp.
-
Exactly this - "gonna need the BIG scales" - woohoo! πββοΈ Went halves on a set of Ruben 120's for Parco - hopefully one day I'll need them!
-
I remember trying to weigh my first 40 on a set of Flyweights. You can imagine my elation as I realised it wasn't going to happen π. I was proud as punch on the trek to the car to pick up the big boy scales! Happy memories!π
-
Yonny: Sorry I didn't realise that, they looked a bit like the old Weigh Master scales I used to have. Kevtaylor: Might have to do the same thing, I have the big Ruben dial scales, they are a bit bulky, come to think of it I don't actually use them much now anyway! π
-
Agreed! also what you've said about the scales is bang on, got the flyweights for pike, perch, chub and carp stalking, gonna swap them in and put the bigger ones in the car - nice one cant believe I didn't do that years ago! π

There is enough free stuff online to learn from and quickly no doubt, however some things are said over and over but are not digested. How many anglers have said on film you need to watch the water, move onto fish yet how many actually do this? - barely any! I'll be stood out in the water for hours at dusk just watching and it actually makes people un-comfortable opposite - it's like what's he doing staring at the water, I'll shuffle about and hide in the bivvy again! Up at 8-9am, get up spod for no reason, no laps, no move, no watching - yet they've seen the same videos as everyone else. I guess it always comes back to are you camping or fishing? I've got a mate who will not move regardless, and doesn't watch the water, got the technical set-ups right but a bit lazy with that too, hook points etc Really he's camping to get away from it all which I understand totally but in his head he's doing everything that his hero Adam Penning does! Weird rant sorry everyone lol

Decent video.. I enjoyed it.... but I cannot help but think it's not quite as good as all the Tel videos that Jack Reid of ESP produced. It looks like Steve Metcalfe produced this one, the marketing guy at Sticky/TA, which makes sense. With fish of that quality on film it's hard to go wrong and it was a decent watch. Fantastic for a first attempt at a Tel vid. They're Ruben Heaton Flyweights..... some of the best =/<40lb scales you can get. I used to carry a set for smaller kippers and still have them somewhere. It make sense to carry them with the big scales in the car. No-one catches a 40 on every trip... not even Tel. Agree. Proper gnarly.
