stewpot Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 I've never used it, so sorry in advance if this seems a stupid question. I've just been reading some of the rig tying threads and it got me thinking I should have more versatility in my rig wallet What advantages does coated braid offer and when should I use it instead of my usual fluorocarbon or braid hook links? chrispayne Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Very easy to make combi links. I use it instead of using tubing at the hook end or if I want to have a soft hair and stiff rig. Quote
mindgame Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 I don't think it has ever tangled on me either, so long as you leave some coating on the middle section of the rig. I find soft braid always tangles on the cast. Quote
jules007 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 use soft uncoated braid with little pva bags and coated braid with or with out pva Quote
stewpot Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Do you need to strip both ends then? One end for the hair and the other to tie to the swivel Quote
kevtaylor Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 No it can be tied to a swivel with the coating still on - a palomar knot tightened with a bit of spit. Quote
stewpot Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 Many thanks guys, I'll give it try. Quote
cobleyn Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Try using a ring swivel with it, or attaching it to the swivel with some sort of loop not ( I tend to use an overhand loop because I'm lazy- I know theres stronger loop knots but its never let me down yet on fish over a ton). The extra flexibility will allow it to pivot easier and go in the fishes mouth more naturally. Quote
