iambunn Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 How would you go about making a rig with a fairly supple hooklink but stiff mono/fluorocarbon hair? I have a couple of different ways in mind but am interested to see what you guys think would be the most tidy.. Cheers, Bunn Quote
salty_tinker Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 The best way is to get your length of mono, tie a loop on one end, trim to the correct length so it finishes just above the eye. Blob the end with a lighter then whip the hook link on where the braid continues down the shank, trapping the hair as you move down. A bit fiddley but not the best of methods of attaching the hair because you are relying on the hook point catching on its way out. Any way good luck Quote
nash_gadgeteer Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Go one easier, instead of using separate materials, tie the hooklink as normal knotless knot or whipping knot and then apply superglue to the knot and hair, works very well especially if the knotless knot is tied KD fashion... beanz Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 trap the stiff hair in a bit of shrink tube on the shank with the end blobbed , knotless knot the limp hook lenght. this leave you with a bit of movement ,which also means it can cater for a bigger/smaller bait Quote
emmcee Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 take your favourite coated hooklink, tie the loop in the hair leaving the coating on,knotless knot to your hook then peel the coating away from the eye of the hook up to the swivel end or whatever itis you use.simple Quote

iambunn Posted January 24, 2010 Author Report Posted January 24, 2010 Cheers for the suggestions, I have played around with emmcee's idea in the past to good effect, will have to give the others a go Quote

salty_tinker Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 It's a method tried a few years ago but I dropped it because it doesn't allow the hook to separate from the bait and therfore not getting secure hook-holds. Quote
karlholding Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 First tie the supple hooklink using a knotless knot but without leaving a hair then all u have to do is tie the stiff hair on using a whipping knot the just thread the tag end of the stiff hair through the eye and blob it with a lighter and there you have it job done and it all sits nicely to not all bulky on the hook. Hope this helps if you want to know anything else p.m me or summit cheers dude and tight lines Karl Quote
