What's your preferred rigs at the moment fella's?

 

I like my old trusted bottom rig and my variation on the Multi

 

 

The bottom rig I use either with paste wrapped boilie or a small pva mesh bait attached to the hair.

My variation on the Multi is usually fished with matching pop ups to my free offerings.

 

So whats your's?

mine are pretty much the same

 

multi rig but with a curved shank and a very short bit of shrink tubing

 

and a blow back rig used with also a curved shank, very simple rig

I'm loving the kd rig at the moment. It's simple and seems to be doing a fine job of getting hook holds for me. Been using straight through on short piece of supple braid inside a solid bag, or at the end of a combi rig, or coated braid with the end few inches stripped away. Looks a bit mad, but so easy to tie and minimal components.

Oh and +1 for the multi rig too. Love it.

Pop up rig = Multi Rig, On the bottom straight flurocarbon D Rig normally fished with a wafter, very happy with the hook holds with this so far.

bottom bait-bog standard knotless knot,size 4 drennan continental,ntrap soft. pop up- hsr,size 4 stiff rigger,25lb mouthtrap,various differnt boom materials.

If I had only one rig to use it would be an old school line aligner with shrink tubing.

But I have been using 2 inch chods the last while and doing very well on them.

I don't really have a favourite. I am lazy though so, no knot hair rig I suppose.

I am so sad, this little beauty is one of my favourite rigs, a presentation that can get used for pop-ups, snowman, and even bottom baits, although I do tend to fish mostly snowmen baits, a 18mm bottom topped with a 15mm.

 

 

 

Another favourite is also adaptable for bottom bait or snowman, dependant on whether you have a fixed or sliding loop in the hair

 

 

I can go back through the forum, years, and I'm willin to bet, whenever anyone asks about rigs, I use the same photographs, although, I reckon if I took up to date pics the rigs would look almost exactly the same.

Simple kk rig for me with various materials and components depending on conditions .

 

I find the most important and crucial factors have always been length . Both rig and hair .

I like to be flexible so no bells & whistles for me

 

Bait application is a more telling factor

Mono is easy to tie, the uni knot loop at the end slides easily. Also I can put a bottom bait on the hair, then use a pop-up as the balancing bait and as a boilie stop.

 

If I'm fishing Nazeing though I change it to dental floss or braid. Crayfish are good at snipping mono hairs, whereas the braid is more resistant.

 

The main advantage of mono is I can tie it easily without 'fluffing' the hair, and it is easier to tie to the rig ring, just blob the tag end of the knot, as I do with my knots anyway

I try to have as little resistance in my rigs as possible - so I rarely use leads and prefer shot attached to a piece of line on a ceramic ring to be totally free running with as little weight on the line as possible. I use rig foam to off set most of the weight of the shot as well - so if I need say 4 AAA's to get to 50 yards or so, then I will counter-balance 3AAA's worth of mass. If I do use leads (rarely ) or swimfeeders ( occasionally ) then I always fish a pulley rig made of 25lb amnesia line and a gemini rotton bottom widget connected with 2lb line - it's WAY safer than a semi-fixed rig - the sea fishing guys are very advanced in rig making. 

 

Rig length is Kryston SuperSilk for most fishing situations, although I dye it green. It's the softest braid I have found. If I'm in heavy weed I will use Spiderwire microbraid all the way through the rig from hook to reel in 50lb. If I'm using a pulley rig then I use 8x 10mm beads between the swivels and it acts like a boom

 

For hooks I use drennan super specialists with the barb flattened most of the time. For really big baits like bread or big pieces of fish I use Sakuma 541 Mini Manta's. Hook is tied in a knotless knot with lots of different hair lengths. I like to keep a big gap between the bait and the hook - so if I was using boilies it might be a 35mm hair, and if I was using bread then it might be perhaps 4 inches or more.  I really do like the quick stop widgets for most baits. With huge baits I use pieces of cocktail stick - mostly because I loose the little hair rig barbell chaps too easily.
