basicaly ive been looking at the solar rig cone, it seems a amazinbg gadget in theory but is, making your tubing near complete circular such a good idea? ive been thinking about it all day and i still dont know

I just use a pair of pliers to hold the hook, whilst I'm steaming the rig. The rigs come out just as good as it would using a cone, a waste of money IMO

I cant explain how I do it in words, but with a couple of attempts you'll get it right.

Are there different sizes, as in diameter, that shrink tubing comes in?

And if you try a builders merchants you can get it very cheap, something like 10 metres for a fiver

most companies sell it in two sizes, medium and small, medium being for hook sizes 1-6, small being for 6-10, but korda have just released xsmall for tiny hooks like 10's upwards.

cheers courtz, im heading down to the DIY/electrician shop later!!!

as a matter of interest lads, what kinda shrink tubing do you use?

ive only tried korda before, but it doesnt really shrink too much, and thats using the smallest one available

Eh? Korda shrinks really well. Try dropping the hook end of the rig in boiling water instead of steaming it. Its loads better.

Look at the Shrink Tubing from somewhere like Maplins, RS or Electrical Supplies.

Its a lot cheaper than that that is sold in the Tackle Shop and is the SAME PRODUCT but unbranded by a Tackle Manufacturer

I personally use a spare pole fishing bung. I find it works a treat and u can shrink at all different thickness's using that method.

At the moment I'm using the Gardner Supa-Shrink Tube in small (1.5mm) size that shrinks to 0.5mm (3:1 ratio) and it retains its bend pretty well even after a fish. It costs around £1.99 for about 6 or 7 lengths.

As Tony said....Korda tubing is very good, and retains its shape excellantly, even when the hook has been stuck to a rig board for a few months, as soon as you take it off the board the tube goes back to a curve.
