  1. Looking at changing my line this season, really liked the Tiger Line lasted a few years and the only reason i need new is due small off cuts now leaving not enough for a comfy cast, so i will be buy again, my water now wants anglers to use a 0.38mm mainline, which means going from my currant 16lb 0.33mm line to a 20lb version which is 0.37mm (i think i will get away with a 0.01 margine) I was thinking about stepping up to a larger size anyhow, the 16lb fluro don't half sing out when playing a fish. casting and knot tying shouldn't be any different, my only concern is will the larger line stand out more to the fish? that's fished straight through with no leader.
  2. I'm no fan of the EA volunteer officers as said before but i have also said it should be on the lake owners to ask for a licence and sell them where the lakes could do that. Funily enough it would be a problem for park lakes as a lot of them have ticket machines, means the ranger would have to check both when on their rounds. The EA put a lot of work into park lakes, so it is only fair to have a licence if you fish parks.
  3. I use a hook doctor just to touch up the hook during the session, Jim Shelly is a big advocate of sharpening hooks with a file and vice, he has a FB video where he shows how he likes to use the tools, reckons it is one of his best edges resulting in more fish. Says in the video hook sharpening is part of the tutorials he gives.
  4. Lol, just a suggestion, sounds like it is more of a social as most places will be empty on Monday, Barston usually has a few on over Christmas
  5. There is free fishing at Drayton Res on Christmas day, 7am-5pm. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/news-and-views/news/free-fishing-at-drayton-reservoir-this-christmas
  6. Very nice, most people including myself would not know there are Trout like that in UK waters, those pictures could of been taken in Canada, which would of been my guess if CM hadn't called Scotland.
  7. You should see the domestic power lines that run over barston lake, they take the electric supply to the farm house next to the lake, leads, spombs all sorts wrapped around them, they must be insulated but it looks like bare green metal cable, i wouldn't fish under them.
  8. Got the bed of them at the start of this year nice bit of kit i think it should fit ok in their one man bivvy, the bed is 90cm, not quite the meter.
  9. Be ideal in the spring/summer, although you may find it a bit cold in the winter unless it comes with doors. Been looking at bivvys myself for next year, must say i'm not impressed with what's on the market, very pricey, for the same old same old,, think i will end up with one from carp zone, looking for a winter skin for my conntact two man, but it looks like it has come to an end. over £200 for a bivvy with outer skin....
  10. Long johns are comfy, just don't send the lake owner a pick of yourself in them holding a fish in the early hours think i got away with it, head to toe in white clobber.
  11. I use solid bags but have never liked the idea of putting the lead and all in the bag, i use a combi rig so getting that in a bag probably wouldn't happen, what i do is fill the bag with bolie crumb and a squirt of liquid, then close it tight making the shape of the bag similar to an icing bag. Thread the rig through and attach to the lead, works well once you get used to casting it, you will never get the long distance as a traditional solid bag rig, but i prefer it and it gives a lovely presentation of the rig, don't like the PVA netting for a stick mix.
  12. I have done mine a couple of times works a treat. sometimes the pound shops will have small cans of spray on dubbing, if i can get that i will use it, they rarely stock it though and they will of put all the camping gear away until next spring. Go out doors would be next on my list, they do a few different brands both spray on or brush, i'd go with the cheapest option, as it will work just fine.
  13. As salokcinnodrog said just an error, they are dead fair on here with posts and moving them around, threads often get merged or moved. i noticed the rod licence tread had a spring clean earlier this year,
  14. There was two treads , admin has probably deleted one of them, they normally move any posts over to the thread with the most replies in the event of a double thread post.
  15. If you do get shot of the braid you could do a lot worse than a good fluorocarbon fished straight through, i have used it on some real snaggy waters and never been let down yet. I have only used tiger line, as my reels only hold 250 meters of line it it don't hurt too much filling them up, plus it out lives other lines by a very long margin.
  16. Can vouch for the JRC contact, very basic but a nice strong build, I have a bed by Carpzone lovely bit of kit, if i ever replace my bivvy i will go with one of the carp zone offerings.
  17. Night fishing is a bit thin on the ground around these parts, Kingsbury Water Park are doing their once a month night weekends from now till the end of September, keep hearing rumors that they are going full time night fishing on the membership ticket, i will believe it when i see it though. There is also Napton and Stockton reservoirs and Hopsford hall near Rugby.
  18. Sure is chub make some cracking gear, it will serve you well for years to come.
  19. If anyone can put a name to this instrumental track being performed by the Luster Kings i would be real grateful, don't know if its a cover by them or one of their tracks, only ever heard it on TV shows before. some of their other stuff is good too, if you like that Rocker Billy sound
  20. One of those memory foam mattress toppers might help, there are a fair few about nowadays
  21. I recently plumped for a Carp Zone bedchair, so glad i did after a few seasons on a basic no padding job, big difference and very well made too, bit on the heavy side but when you chuck it on the barrow, what's it matter. Just need a bigger bivey now, you wouldn't get two in the JRC contact two birth.
  22. Rob Hughes has mentioned using big halibut pellets along side your bait and loose feed , keeps them occupied as they love 'em with the bonus of smashing the halibut pellets up and sending out extra attraction in your swim. Plenty of the sods in the rivers on this side of the midlands, cybrox.
  23. One from a local band, just released their first LP this is a single that is for release from said LP, i have known the lead singer for years great bloke we both worked on the M40 when it was being built.
  24. Nice to hear good things about the TFGs, i have been looking for a third fox alarm to go with the two i bought from the car boot a few years back, can't find one other than e bay, which i don't use. So a new set is on the cards, may as well get something with a receiver.
  25. I can second the reel mentioned by greekskii, i have one for my market/spomb set up, i use a 3lb test carp rod with a mini spomb, so can't really comment on rods, other than £400 is a heck of a lot of money, but then again having the matching set would also appeal to me.
