  1. Never go by the weather they do feed on the hottest days on the bottom sometimes, late evening is best this time of year but you never know what they might do until you fish for them. you can also try feeding the smaller fish the bigger ones might just get in on it.
  2. That's the problem with loop knots, looks skiwiff but should not cause a problem on a snag leader? Good call never tied a mono leader before always used either leadcore or fluro straight through, be easier to buy those pre looped leaders but i have a half spool of good quality fluro that makes for a much finer leader. I have tested the surgeons loop on the fluro, it snaps below the loop knot, but i may go with the mahin knot you advised, ta.
  3. Might tie a few 1 metre length fluro leaders up for my next trip out, normaly i would tie a surgeons loop as it is a very easy knot, would you use this knot on a leader or go with a different loop knot?
  4. Doubt you would go wrong with the Fox rods they are the high end ones though, if they still did the torque range i would say go for them.
  5. I've been thinking why no shrinktube on a chod rig just like the old Withy rig could help keep the curve in the fluro. new a guy years back he could tie some real mean Withy rigs fine braid and some well worked shrinktube. he gave me one back in the nineties, i put it on an inline 😁 i was fishing a method feeder at the time so...
  6. If you can get over to the other side of Brum Barston is a very good lake for dogs and boat fishing, prices were ok last time i went, one off membership payment then 14 a night, i think beats paying 30 on a smaller lake if you want to use the boat, some big fish in there too and far from as easy as most people think.
  7. Colours shmullers, i got pink ones and white ones anything else is the baits non dyed colour, no true Scotsman would.... you must be English ha ha
  8. Just watched the Hopsford vid nice water that been up to have a look a few times but have always been put off by the hook size rule i doubt they check them but. That gostie is a very special fish, i have seen a fair few pics of what is in there some very nice mirrors. place gets filled in with the cov red bait, you sound local Warwickshire or Coventry?
  9. I got the goodmans from B&M 20 quid, bit heavy on cheap Duracell batteries constant play will get around 48 hours on four AA batteries, that's me crushing them after they first start to run out to get up 48 hours. the batteries are Duracell but i get them from the bargain shops, They tend to get brand name products that are smaller in size than normal, might be the same with the batteries?
  10. Saves having to tie a decent albright knot and having that to glue or not thought
  11. Yes, you will need a a little loop popping out the bait to take a bait stop, or your pop up will pop off, nothing worse than bringing a rig in that has no bait on it.
  12. Use your baiting needle to make a hole and then pull the swivel into the bait, might need a small loop of line or a bait band to fit a hairstop to. What is the black line with the crimp on? in the ronnie hook picture
  13. So i went with the ESP syncro loaded as it was what they had other than Fox exocet and soft steel both i have used before. Loading the ESP seems ok in the pic from left to right is the order in which i loaded them, the middle one seems to have a very slight upside down cone going on, not as visible in the photo think there may be a slight buckle in the spindle? The ST 6000 has loaded better than the DT 6000, go figure, Certainly looks carpy, i have a half spool of 16lb fluro if i need a leader.
  14. That's the one for some reason i thought it was labeled as GT/GR90. Gardener line has got a good reputation they only allow fluro leaders or tubing on the lake i fish. Yes but it is a few years old and the reels are no longer as full as they should be, plus it looks awful in silty water.
  15. One thing you will always need a local tackle shop for, casters. Also would you use tinned tuna in a ground bait, that had a 2017 use by date, found a few tins in spring water knocking about in the kitchen.
  16. Hi guys, will be changing my line this week and not going with the Tiger line this time. Was thing of either one of the ESP syncro or the Gardener 90, both of these look suitable to fish with out a leader, any suggestions?
  17. Anyone got any thoughts on that blue dye stuff as in does it stain baits or is it down to a lot more silt areas being exposed should be back next week, thinking of using the ol Nash ball maker and going down the heavy ground bait rout put out with a catapult might try a couple of pints of casters mixed in with pellet brad crumb and a few liquids to bind nice and solid.?
  18. What are they? those in the bottom pic look a bit out the ordinary.
  19. Google army andy does alsorts of bivvy repairs and bits he makes himself, not cheap though but good quality work
  20. Forgot to add, i did have a bit of a mare Tuesday evening, baby swan decided to grot itself on my line, proper twist and lock, went to free it and the big swans went mental and shot off to the middle of the lake, when i tried to draw the line and baby swan back it just dunked under water, it was never going to make it back in, at this time the line was still twisted and not knotted up, so i cut the line and it unraveled itself as the Swan swam off, just meant i had a big long length of line in my swim with end tackle on, so the next morning i managed to snag the line and get it all back. And i made damn sure i dropped no bait around my rods the Swans were up at the bank looking for bits anyhow.
  21. Not so much a mare of a session more of a grind and a surprise that not even a tench had a go at my bait, a few problems i came across i will list as best i can any input would be welcome. Turned up to the lake for the first time in two years only to find a few changes, now this was one real weedy lake, but for the past two seasons they have been using weed dye. the water is not as gin clear as it used to be. my bait was what i had left from last year about two kilo which i bulked out with pellet, hemp corn, no real interest even on feeding spots the fish were on. could of been munching fry or spawn? Deffo changing my line back to a nylon line with fluro leader, my line is real dark with stain from the water not the normal silt stains, which brings me to the state of my hook bait when reeling in, looked like it had been in silt, that was a pop up on a ronnie and a stiff hinge both were sitting nice and no way would of took on that much silt, now there is less weed, there is more silty areas exposed, any pointers or thoughts, it's a water in wellingbourgh that a few of you have fished before.
  22. Looks like he was trying to say you had not bought a ticket to fish, thinking he can call it poaching and take your tackle if he was a EA officer. They will get the police in to take any tackle as it is criminal law at play, i doubt the police would remove tackle unless there are fish in a bag. I'd find out where he lived sounds like he may of come close to be claiming he worked for the EA or some other government body.
  23. That's a three journey load out for me, rod bag and a few of the buckets on a walk around to find a peg, then back for the barrow load the chair a big bag and a few bits drop that off and back for the rest, glad i only fish small lakes,
  24. Defiantly get on to the Canal Trust they are relentless in pursuing people that think they can do as they please on the cut, they will go on to private property to remove boats that are in dry storage, put one on the canal and not follow the rules, they tow it to a jetty and crane it out and take it away, the bills are huge. They would go full bore if they have proof of someone taking fish to stock a commercial fishery.
