  1. To be honest I haven't used that rig before was just a suggestion for the poster, I still think there is something with the short stiff section at the hook end that makes it very tricky for the carp to deal with. That is not the best pic i have seen of it normally the stiff section has a nice smooth curve to it, so i'm guessing the hook will lay horizontal to the bait due to the length/weight of the longshank hook. I don't use longshank hooks due to the size of the fish i fish for they have the potential to cause mouth damage but the principal should work with a normal out turned eye hook of the anglers preference
  2. Looks a hybrid between the 360 and a hinge stiff, for me personally there is to much going on with the rig itself, I would keep it simple to start with, having said that there is something in the whole really short very stiff pop up section as the flick rig that Ian Russell uses a lot has a similar section. I agree with this and i believe that when you are using a low sitting pop up the fish do not know that it is not on the bottom (this theroy is taken from experiences when diving when looking square on to some items it is very tricky to tell if they are on the bottom) and as the home in on the bait it catches them by surprise and flies straight back into the mouth
  3. Option one for me mate I like the hook to sit at 45 degree angle with a pop up.
  4. Ok so question for the poster how accessible are these spots, example could you view the spot if you covered it with particles. how clear is the water etc....., can you bait those spots regular If you get to ticks to the above question, find a couple of points in line with markers from where you can cast from, apply a couple of kilo's of hemp with a mix of small halibut pellets every day for about 2-3 days before you are due to fish, if the fish are visiting and munch those spots will start to be become very clean, when fishing apply same loose feed and pop a bait in.
  5. I see your point NM, feeding fish on a diet of high oil pellets can't be a good thing, it would like the early fishmeal days when everything was dripping in some form of fish oil
  6. CM is that you in a new maize filled life (please run sense of humour check before reading this line) Same could be said by getting a bus load of halibut pellets which is what they are feed on, hemp is a better option IMO for preoccupying fish.
  7. Which is why i mentioned the stiff hinge with a soft boom section same effect without using the C word
  8. This combination may work for me a decent length of braid say 9-10", altough soft braid and heli rigs don't work well for me regarding tangles etc.. PVA Bag is a no for me would just plunge into the chod, Foam may help but your relying on the bait not settling in the reed stems your dragging back. Other possibles you need to lighten the hookbait I noticed dynamite do halibut pellet pop ups this combined with a stiff hinge rig with a supple braid boom may score you extra points, or dare I say it a naked chod, Im not the best person to comment on naked chod use as I dont use them but someone will be along shortly Hopefully this is helpful for you and kick start the thread to get you somethings to try. My supple braid of choice has for years been Kryston Supernova
  9. Ok just happened to be watching the Korda Masterclass Low Stocked Pits and noticed DF demoing this rig, you will notice from the image i have attached he is no longer incasing the D inside the knotless knot and appears to go around the outside of it

  11. I know when Danny demo's he uses a Korda Kurv reasons being obvious. Bet you would cause DF's back problem to twitch suggesting that for his rig As I mentioned before i use the same material but use a conventional D Rig and haven't found any issues which is why I thought the knot was strangling somehow.
  12. I can second this, i find this happens more when the bait has something like a piece of fake sweetcorn on top, people think it makes the bait sit up from my findings it kicks out at an angle. 10mm avid highlites are great for snowmen be warned there very buoyant though
  13. Whilst we wait for Dr NM to add to his diagnosis, Didn't know you were using a snowman if that is the case that hair with 12mm and 15mm might be a bit short as the bait will be sat right on top of the hook (which is not a bed thing sometimes), but if the fish are a bit smaller might be worth giving them a cm or 2 to hang themselves and take the bait right back into the mouth cavity taking the hook with it.
  14. That is alot harder than you think these days, anyone would think they didn't want members anymore (view from the outside)
  15. Nige has already mentioned a trailer, also what other species are present in the lake, I have known small tench and bream pick up the bait and just run with it in there mouth. From looking at your pic there does not appear to be much wrong, I would try shortening that hooklink by half, there is a chance they are using the long hook length to shake the hook before connecting to the lead. Also worth playing around with hair length try a little bit longer or a little shorter and see if they connect any better
  16. Oh are you using the Danny's version of the D rig (its a sliding d rig btw), sounds to me like something is getting strangled at some point. Il have a look at the knot diagrams in a bit and see if i can see where you maybe going wrong. Out of interest what hooks are you using ?
  17. You sure you aren't damaging the material when blobbing the D section ? Ive been using this hooklink material for a while now using the same rig and had no issues so far
  18. For the rig you have linked the video for the lead sits in a clip you cant see it in the video as the tail rubber is slid down over the top. The rig in the video basically constructs like this, thread a length of tubing (weather that is anti tangle or tungsten based) on to the main line, follow that with a tail rubber and then the lead clip, attach rig. The lead clip will slid onto the swivel the better ones come with a peg to fix the swivel in place to aid lead ejection, place lead in the clip slid the tail rubber over the clip (how far you push it on depends on how much pressure you need for the lead to come off when snagged), push the tubing into the tail rubber and your done. Make sure the length of tubing is longer than your rig and then a little extra to help stop tangles.
  19. Is there an optimal length for the fuse wire on that rig
  20. Pop up rig = Multi Rig, On the bottom straight flurocarbon D Rig normally fished with a wafter, very happy with the hook holds with this so far.
  21. I have a fox zig disc, 1 turn of the disc is 1 foot makes measuring out and storing zigs very easy
  22. And whats wrong with a normal D rig that there is a need to radically change it, as already mention I don't see the mechanics in the rig that improves the original, for me it falls into the category of rig created to sell terminal tackle rig.
