  6. but thats the whole point, you do not need to set the fighting drag as it should be set before your first cast then IF you need to alter it during a scrap then that is no different to the way you fish, also once you have set the rear clutch for the bait runner AFTER YOUR FIRST CAST, it also requires no further attention. set your line to your desired tension( tight/semi/slack), rod in the pod, clip on your stows or whatever then one flick of the finger to set the runner and any more is just being a tart
  7. if thats what i end up with gaz i have enough engineering expertise to motorize it
  8. its just that to me its seems like your statements are coming from the angle of someone who has never used the bait runner as it should be used. i set my bait runner to suit the situation, relatively tight where there could be a danger of snags and just so i can feed line off in open water, the front clutch/ fighting drag i set so i have to pull reasonably hard to give line and unless i have a really hard fighting fish on thats how it stays. as i reach down for the rod on a take i extend my index finger and just touch the runner lever and that knocks it off before i have even gripped the rod. the above suits my style of fishing so well that i have not needed to alter either clutch more than a dozen times in the last two years and i have also NEVER used it freespool style and also there is no need to have a quick crank of the handle. as you say horses for courses, but the trick is being able to ride that horse
  9. phil, can i ask just two questions? (three with this one before some smart ar se says sommat) 1) do you have bait runners? 2) have you ever used a bait runner reel?
  10. we have reached a stalling point in the negotiations, we are here at the moment
  11. Shall i pm you my details then Nick lol Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
  12. i like to heat my boilies up, i put a kilo bag in a bucket and pour boiling water over them, add a good dollop of tuna or whatever you fancy oil and put the lid on. swish the bucket for a bit then leave for 20-30 mins, the liquid should be all gone and the boilies swelled to at least 50% bigger. give another coating of oil and they will be ready to ooze all that flavour out on the lake bed. my one excursion into freezer baits are now acting as ammo for keeping the next door cat away from my lawn
  13. anyone who can not do exactly that on a bait runner/free spool reel needs to get lessons in how to set up their kit IMO of course as to the second part of the statement, i have seen people loosing off the front drag to do the same thing, one chap loosened it so much that on the take his spool flew off. so have a good think and then tell me that there is no point in incorporating a safety feature that takes noddys out of the equation. no offence intended of course
  14. those two comments gave me a giggle too Adam
  15. looking for a good cheapish bulk supplier of pva gear, does any one have a recommendation? i know Tim does but anyone else out there?
  16. in negotiations with the hairy boss at this very mo bud
  17. my fishing is not all about sitting on my rods, tensed over and getting stressed over every little twitch of the indicators, its about relaxing and unwinding. i dont knowingly fish snags either, for the most part when static i fish open water in the day and margins at night so yes i do rely on my bait runner to stop my rods going in. but then, thats just me
  18. i think my major problem is that i like my comfort to much to compromise.
  19. finally home with number two in the bag, pretty common with alternate black and silver scales, low double around 13.5. didnt bag a 30+ but their is always next time both fish came out to SSP baits system x boilies in beige gravel, one snowman stylie with a cut down hi viz pink pop up and one wafter style with a cork insert over prodigy baits particle mix like gaz i was packing up in the rain after using the new bivvy for the first time, damn i need some practice i also need to cut down on the cr ap i take with me, two barrow loads pushed over 700 yards in the rain is no joke at my age. #feelinold blame Gaz for the outbreak of hashtags
