  1. My mate swears by the dot spod. I use the spomb and on the odd occasion it won't open just like on the odd occasion it will open as you cast it, but it's my preference.
  2. In my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong in casting 100 plus times to find/ get on a spot. I'd rather do that than think "that will do" when it won't do. As for casting in a cross wind I would rather set up facing the wind if possible, you get a much better feel of the lead down. And when you say bare lead was you feeling for a drop or seeing if you could slide the lead once it was on the bottom?
  3. If the fish are there then stay put, if not I'd up sticks, find them and move onto them.
  4. Know how you feel. I was going to hit the beach but the wind is putting a stop to that. One of my lakes all the weed has died off and there are massive weed beds wiping everyone out and my other lake the fish are spawning. Something is telling me not to go 🤣
  5. Nor me if I'm honest.
  6. This is also where having an established bait that the carp want can give you a massive edge and creating a feeding area/ situation that brings numbers of fish to your spot. The more your hookbait is picked up the more chance of a take naturally.
  7. Absolutely spot on mate.
  8. It is supposed to be the measurement at the widest point. So the distance between the 2 arms where the draw string is.
  9. I did like the story about the dog and the Maltesers, a good analogy I thought
  10. I've watched a fair few of the underwater DVD's from korda and you obviously see that they were being "done" quite a lot. Flicking through YouTube I found a video recently with the Fox boys doing an underwater bit on wraysbury. They were using the 360 rig. In the piece that I saw they had one pick up and it resulted in a fish on the bank. Gave me food for thought as I used to use that rig a lot before it was banned on one of my lakes. Might be trying it again on a lake near me soon Haha.
  11. Absolutely mad as a hatter isn't he. I had the pleasure of meeting him once when he did a guest on dinton with dean and he had me in bits from the moment I sat down to the moment I left.
  12. Yeah 🤣🤣. Thing is it's all true Haha
  13. Have you listened to the latest korda podcast with Pete Regan? The man is a legend and had me in stitches. I'm well into podcasts now thanks to you @elmoputney. 👍
  14. Yeah, sound bloke is bungle, met him on white swan. He catches them.
  15. It's a cracking fish. That's with Scotty.K holding it. He fished white swan when I was on there. As my name is Scott as well a few of the lads decided on calling him "thin scott" and me, well I'll let you guess 🤣
  16. I did see this. Cracking fish isn't it. Another one in there like that which is even bigger..
  17. The easiest and the best thing to do is buy the correct clothing and sleeping bag, no heater required then. Put a layer on if too cold or take a layer off if too hot, simple and safe.
  18. All part of baiting up I'm afraid. It makes your heart sink sometimes. As for it sounding like a lot of bait, I'd say that's a snack for a hungry carp. They can eat loads when on it.
  19. Well you think you know a lake, well I've been awake since 3-45 in anticipation and I've not seen a single fish and I can see 90% of the lake. I did see half a dozen fish just before dark in my vicinity so was quite confident. 2 blokes fishing into the wind at the other end of the lake both have their doors down, they said its freezing Haha. Got one other mate right at the back of the wind, he hasn't seen anything either. The carp and their great disappearing act Haha
  20. Well I've managed to pull a crafty one. I recently brought a sack of crushed hemp so prepared that yesterday afternoon with a few tins of sweetcorn and chickpeas. Spodded 2 buckets onto 2 spots that were weeded up in a particular swim I feel the fish will end up in with coming weather conditions. My mate told me they were slicking up all morning. I had to wait in for a fresh batch of boilies so would have been down first thing. Only Just got in here though and rods out and the 2 spots that I could hardly feel the lead down on the other day are both going down clean and with a definitive thump. Just hope I'm not a day late. 🤞
  21. My favourite pattern of hook. Very rarely pull out of fish with this hook. I only use size 4 or 2 and only use it with critically balanced or pop up baits.
  22. I know what you mean. I've got lots of work to do around the house this week so won't be on the bank. Proper low pressure, full moon, everything is aligned for some hauling.
  23. Spot on, keep it simple. 👍
  24. Top man Elmo, well deserved.
  25. You're probably right. Probably only a stockie when I was there.
